Rules of the thread are simple:
>You can only talk about games and systems made before the US release of the NES (1985). Everything before it from the CRT Amusement Device to stuff like Marble Madness and Kung Fu Master is cool here. Later and homebrew ports for Pre-NES games on Pre-NES systems are allowed (e.g. Jr. Pac-Man was released in arcades in 1983 but the 2600 port came out in 1986)
>That's it.
How do I git gud at arcade Battlezone? Also how do you bind that game? My binds for my Dualsense controller are okay but I wanna know if I can do better.

We hear a lot of 70s gaming in the US and Japan? But what was European gaming like in the 70s? That one driving game that was the inspiration for Atari's Night Driver is pretty much the only game I know of that came from Europe during that time, but there's gotta be more.

I finally want to deep-dive into this console's library, but I'm having trouble sifting through all the ported arcade games.
What are the best games that were exclusively made for the PC-Engine, including the CD-ROM2 add-on and the PC-Engine Duo?
Also, I'm curious about multi-plat games where the PC-Engine port is considered the best version - later-gen ports notwithstanding

Played the ALttP Randomizer for the first time, got stuck for like 2 hours because the one item I needed to progress was in a dark room (I had the fire rod). Took me way longer to finish than if I had just played the original game.
It was "fine" but if I get the urge to play "2D Zelda but with a twist again", I'll play Crusader of Centy so I can check that off my backlog instead.

Basically same story with me, desu. I've been meaning to play it as an adult to see just what about it stopped me from finishing it (besides my disc needed to be rebuffed). It got pretty mediocre scores so I think it may have just been a shitty game.

Wizardry sucks dick because it's not enough to employ a winning strategy. You have to get good rng to win. Japs love having their time wasted like this. I've never understood it. Maybe their brains enjoy rote tasks over and over while convincing themselves it was time well spent overcoming a "challenge"

thats basically what it amounts to. its essentially just baccarat with an unnecessary fantasy overlay.

This console was a technical piece of shit for the time it came out in. It barely matched the Mega Drive or PC Engine, both of which were much older. They really had no excuse for making such a weak machine so late. It should have absolutely mogged the MD and PCE but a lot of the times it was the other way around.

Bump because this should be common knowledge. The words "SNES" should be equated to "shitty, slow, bottlenecked hardware" and "lacklustre games library" in the public's mind. There should be a sticky on this forum stating simply stating:
>SNES
>2.68 mhz
>in 1991
Just as a continuous reminder of how embarrassingly poor this console was.

>>12023902
>Go bust out DKC and tell me it wasn't groundbreaking for it's time.
Everything Donkey Kong did was done in far better fashion and earlier by David Perry games such as Aladdin (Mega Drive version) or Earthworm Jim. The only people impressed by Donkey Kong were those who were so deep in the Nintendo echo chamber that they had never seen those games.

>>12025095
>There's a difference between preferring another console, and claiming the Super Nintendo is bad.
There is, but it's quite natural to prefer another console when the SNES is bad on an objective level.
>universally acclaimed console
For what? Mario, Zelda, Metroid. Same shit as any other Nintendo console. Nobody actually gives a shit about the SNES itself, or any of it's other games, they just like the same couple Nintendo games that they would like irregardless of what console it was on. Mega Drive and PC Engine enjoys threads with people sharing and enjoying dozens of incredible titles. Meanwhile, you SNES drones have trouble naming more than 5 without resorting to shit-tier filler and hoping nobody notices.

You convinced me. I will now stop liking all these Capcom, Konami, Natsume, Irem, Taito, etc games because you reminded me that the SNES has an on paper spec number set that's low!
In fact, screw retro, all retro consoles are too low on on-paper specs, I will now exclusively play on the most modern, latest CPU available on the market. And I will accept no game that doesn't require those specs!

Oh, i've seen plenty of those on both Saturn and PSX, mostly PSX since there is a dedicated Saturn patching tool. But I remember the ZSNES days where I had to run several dos programs in a row to patch a game.

Yes. If there is but one line of dialog, it should be in my language. There is not a single Japan only game that shouldn't be translated.

Apparently the patching tool for Ys IV English translation on PC Engine CD no longer works on 64-bit Windows machines. You have to use a VM or an emulator to patch the game.

They also used a Thunder Force IV track as BGM for the last boss's dialogue instead of, you know, fucking using the actual song released without voices in the damn soundtrack album. I wish someone competent did a proper English patch for this game.
