What do you guys do for backups? Do I just get a spare drive and store it in a bank vault?

Seems like the pins on a non-passthrough connector would be just as susceptible to these.

I have everything on my server synced to a "NAS", which is really just "an old machine with as many old HDDs as I could stuff into it". I also sync the more important stuff to bare drives (they sell HDD-sized plastic protection boxes, get some) and when I go visit my dad I leave a drive at his place. I figure if a natural disaster destroys both my house and my dad's place 20 miles from me, I have bigger problems.

I'm trying to add a hardware video transcoding device to my Dell T610. It has four pcie 2.0x8 slots (mechanically x8) that can each deliver 25 watts. I can't seem to find any Nvidia Intel, or AMD cards that will transcode in this system via NVENC, QuickSync, or VCE. Anyone got recommendations that will be able to transcode videos in Nextcloud Memories?

hello, brothers. complicated ask:

location: us
budget: iem: <$100 | over-ear: <$100
sound: iem: black/power metal mostly but also some 80s 90s rap | over-ear: cs2 (surround? idk), streams/YT

i want to basically use the over-ears for when i'm mobile, and some over-ears for gaming/YT/streams

kinda would prefer something good on the over-ear if it could work well with plugging into my mixer when i'm playing guitar, but maybe the iems with an iem, but usually those types of headphones are annoying af when standing and playing guitar.
>>

ya i made this thread cause i switched to iems and i kinda want some headphones for the winter for on the go, but i wouldnt even know what to buy
>>
>>107010057
The under $100 market for headphones is pretty horrific unfortunately. The best headphones your going to get are used, with little use, sometimes by failed podcasters, i see that a lot in my area. Warehouse deals from amazon, or ebay. The first two options are a lot better than the last for finding near prior error deals, usually even at $100 used your able to find a $200-300 pair, just factor in headphone pads if they are quite worn into the price.
Some common used models that go for cheap are the sennheiser hd 560,hd 599, audio technica m30x/m40x/50x, beyerdynamic dt 770/990, perhaps some lower akg models and a few others. Warehouse deals, dependant on country are the best for this, some models get such little traction and most people are phone fags so the used items rot and amazon puts them down endlessly till they sell.

I'm looking for new external storage over USB. I've been looking through prebuilt external SSDs and turns out most of them are either cheap trash with reject NAND, garbage controllers and overheating cases or just overpriced.

In comparison an SSD enclosure lets me chose any quality NVMe SSD by myself and put it in a box.
But there are several problems with this approach:
1. I don't know which controllers most of these enclosures use. They could be cheap garbage as well.
2. NVMe SSDs are not made to be powered over USB wattage. What if they have an amp spike, but the USB connection can not provide it? Will my data gets killed?

Reliability and data safety is more important for me than pure speed. I hope some Anons have some knowledge on this topic and can help me out.

tldr: Are there good and reliable SSD enclosures on the market? Or are prebuilt SSDs the better option?

I'd say get an ORICO USB4 (AKA Thunderbolt) NVMe enclosure for $20 off AliExpress and a Samsung 990 EVO Plus. 1TB of fast reliable portable storage for $100. I'm not sure how well the phone/tablet will negotiate with the enclosure down to USB2/3 though.

It's "funny" how a federated/disperse opposition can be undermined by 'convenient dissidents' just because there's no hierarchy and it's rejected, unlike companies and companies associated to keep the garden under control. And people still thinks that being socially destructive (should I say "deconstructive"?) is a virtue. Western culture needs to do critic to create a 'revision-way', not a simple 'alt' that is breeding ground for more radicalization.
>>
>>107009461
It's also "funny" how with all of these projects are founded on the concept of no hierarchy and fought having any leader or group of inner personnel who could dictate how people used or contributed at all, they all immediately adopted a hierarchy that put outsiders who knew nothing about the project at the very top with the project to destroy even key members of any project. All done when these projects were asked 'very nicely' by special interest groups ran by big tech companies. To the point where projects that didn't adopt one were shadowbanned and ousted.

> Western culture needs to do critic to create a 'revision-way', not a simple 'alt' that is breeding ground for more radicalization.
The alts get started because there is no other path on the 'accepted' political spectrum. It's the old adage, when peaceful revolution becomes impossible violent revolution becomes inevitable. Every single Alt are a bunch of losers who want the worst things to happen to their political opponents and they gain power because LIbs and Cons have become mirrors of one another. Each one only stand for how much money they can stuff into their pockets from corruption, they have no principles or morals. If they did Libs would have never accepted the Big Tech surveillance state and Cons would have fought tooth and nail to keep the Government from being able to use Big Tech's resources without a warrant.

The only people saying that this is a bad thing are the alts. None of the shitlibs or Conservacucks give a shit as long as their retarded bribes keep coming in.

Gentoo as a beginner is not that harder to install when compared to Arch, it's the same process if you're thinking objectively about it: Just following the wiki and running several commands you don't know about(yet)

But if you're going to think about options and try to customize it to your needs, the complexity rises - but not the difficulty, since wiki is there for that too.

It's basically Arch with a handheld live environment installer. It's a good way to get into Arch without going with the vanilla variant.

One thing I miss about sbcl when working with Julia is how fast the sbcl compiler is. I'm never waiting too long for the REPL to become responsive with sbcl, but Julia REPLs can take a while to warm up, especially at the beginning of a session.

If youre a turbo autist, you can consider getting into theoretical stuff like algorithm design. Its really hard computer science not the webshit you see everywhere that a jeet with chatgpt can churn out. The problems involves make leetcode hard look easy.
If academia is not your thing since you still need to teach, banks will use your work in trading algos to make bank, defense may have use for the research. This field is likely used to working with autists so that might help
