>It probably installed the GTK one in addition to the GNOME one that was already there and the GTK one takes priority for some reason.
yeah that was my immediate thought however i don't think that is the case since in the case of arch linux at least the gnome portal depends on the GTK one and I've had gnome installed since day 1.
Really odd behavior anyhow

Nah, not really. There really isn't anything new in the current ML world from a mathematics perspective. The same exact scaling problems that doomed multi-layer perceptrons in the 80s will doom these systems now that they've effectively sucked the internet dry in terms of training data. The main advances we made which enabled "the deep learning revolution" were on the hardware side, and that has been grinding to a halt recently.

I wholly accept that I'm a worthless loser, even work hard at attempting to better my condition. But it means nothing when the world can easily swallow you, churn you out, and spit out what remains like the nothing that you are. The only truth is, that the world is a ruthless competitive arena of winners and losers, on every level. There is no "shadow" to integrate, there is no "psyche" to face to, you are either naturally selected (quite literally) by the mechanisms of fate, or you are going to perish like all the other creatures and processes of life that didn't make it to the next step of evolution before you. Mysticism of the new age, or Jungian, or Christian, or Judaic, or Eastern variety is comforting, because wouldn't it be so nice if there really was something mysterious to life that we just didn't know about? However on the most obvious and visible plane we know these mysticisms reduce to nothing more than fantasies.

I do networking/on-prem server admin, policies, automation etc. It hurts my soul to work with idiots all day knowing that I'm the lowest paid person in the entire organization. Just tough it out?

Just like what happened in covid, it will come out when prices are the highest and force the AVX512 instruction and optional requirement a NPU or it will use your GPU 24/7

IPS or OLED?

OLED is consumer trash, it's the equivalent of bass-boosted speakers to impress normies with the contrast.

Ask yourself: why doesn't EIZO that makes professional color-accurate displays make any OLED monitor?
>>
OLED only
>>
you guys seem to know a lot about monitors are there any 16:10 desktop displays worthwhile in 2026 or is that shit dead in the water

OLED is like lifting the veil, turning content otherwise beyond a milky glazed window into content directly in front of you
people talk of burn in; personally i haven't seen its impact in 6 years of TV / monitor or phone usage
could it be improved? of course! every year there's something that improves it. this year new OLED monitors are changing their RGB layouts to replicate traditional RGB patterns, suiting desktop environments
there's also tandem-OLED which is the future of the tech

mac is probably the best operating system rn to have
windows is complete and utter garbage
i really like linux (fedora especially) and it comes very close too, but i find myself using mac the most. mostly because there is more compatible software for my needs and also i like the convenience of ADP that they implemented few years ago, only big tech that offers that type of data security when it comes to cloud.
>>
i ditched my entire PC "everything" and got a macbook and have since bought a mac mini as well, its objectively a better end user experience
it does what i want it to do and nothing more
by that i mean you can do pic related

turn off windows updates entirely and compare the processes
on macos i simply go to update, open the settings for updates, and turn the little buttons to "off", and it never does anything i dont ask ever again, i will update when i want to and never when i dont want to
it doesnt give me entire screen pop-ups telling me about upgrading
>>
>>107826684
oh and because i always have to clarify this, theres always people who go "oh but you have to update, updates are good"
i understand this, i will eventually update stuff as i see fit
but its not the updates themselves that are the problem, its that you as the end user dont have control over it, microsoft makes it overly difficult to do what should be as simple as a toggle on/off, and what was previously that easy
you fuckin own the computer, it should do as you say, and there shouldnt be any compromises
i tell my macbook to not update, it doesnt update and doesnt bother me further about it
the same applies to many attributes of it, it does only what i want it to do

linux is very much so in line with this as well, and linux is a great option for a lot of people, its not suitable for me and my uses unfortunately
part of the other things i wanted to move away from involve desktop pc hardware, i just dont like that entire type of device anymore, this i greatly prefer
for people who value things like that, they will want to continue with desktop pcs and that type of hardware in general, thats perfectly fine if that fits their desires out of tech, it doesnt fit mine anymore

i think a lot of people here would genuinely be very surprised by modern macs and macOS and would greatly enjoy it, its a matter of giving them the opportunity to try
>>
>>107825275
M4 mac mini is simply better value than any windows equivalent
>>
I bought a new macbook recently. Wish I had just stopped being lazy and gone back to Linux. Better than Windows at least. It's kind of funny to me that your main 2 options for computing are either good hardware/bad UX or bad hardware/good UX. Very much a coke or pepsi, both are bad for you situation.

The Judaic powers that be print these worthless pieces of paper that they trade for your labor which is worth something so they constantly print more of the paper to take your labor before you notice that the paper is somehow worth even less.
Then they have these gigantic monoliths whose purpose is to do incomprehensible and dark things in service of getting you to want those pieces of paper. One function is they observe and record you at every moment and constantly try to trick you into looking at funny pictures in the hopes you'll trade your paper for the funny things in the pictures.

People pay for it, just not enough. They are trying to do the uber model of subsidize consumers to get mass adoption, then jack up the prices once they are hooked
The problem is that they would need to jack the prices like 100x for normal plans, and 10x for the most expensive ones, for a service that doesn't have a moat. People have no problem swapping models, working people (ie those who would be willing to pay the most) change models like gloves, and literally nobody cares which cloud they get their answers from. It's a shit business.

Should have known better than to get my hopes up for something working out. Can't fucking believe it, I've tried at least 5 sennheiser headphones over the years, every single one of them has easily fit my head. They can all telescope down far below my years. But not this fucking one. For some unexplainable godforsaken reason this one just stops earlier with the pad halfway down my ear. The clamp is nice too, it would be perfect if it could just click down a few more times. Fuck sake I can't believed I'm just cursed with no good options. I have to compromise now and get something that just fits good enough to tolerate. I've tried 10+ headpphones over the last few months from all kinds of brands, gamer ones and legit ones. Every single one has some problem. I had given up on sound quality and just wanted something comfortable and now I can't even get that.
