In other news, Gilliam just updated the Model 6001. It is now 3.7lb, from 5.4lb, and loses M855A1 protection. Rating is NIJ 0101.07 RF2, so only M80 / M855 / M193. $500/set.
This is 0.2lb lighter than the Hesco 3810 and about 0.3lb heavier than the Hesco 3811, but considerably less cash than either. Three factors:
1. The 6001 is an 0101.07 plate, so the minimum required drop test is easier than 0101.06.
2. The 6001 is only required to stop 3x 7.62x51mm M80, per .07, while the 3810 / 3811 need to stop six as .06 certified plates.
3. Chinese material sourcing.
They did shoot the new version, test report is pic rel. There's some quirks with the report. This prolly isn't a Hesco 3810 killer just yet.

The people LARPing or posturing some sort of Red Dawn scenario against American regulars are absolutely clueless.
Are they intentionally tuning out the fact that the American military recently conducted an operation that oversaw the abduction of Venezuela's president within 3 hours, with zero of their personnel KIA? Also, the legal firearm owners here have been alienated and collectively punished for the actions of criminals who weren't even licensed. These licensed firearm owners are the ones who are expected to merrily march off to fight for the Canadian government?
The fuckwits in Ottawa will be lucky if there's no widespread collaborationist movement.
That's not even looking at the CAF who has been sitting neglected, underfunded, understaffed, demoralized and without proper materials for decades. Assuming 100% of the personnel are magically instilled with some insane zealotry that will cause them to fight to the death, their meager numbers & nonfunctional equipment will only carry them so far (nowhere but a smoking crater).
>>
>>64740369
Yes they are. It's not a legal requirement.
Canada is just so closely connected to US markets. You'd have to order your airsoft from Europe or Japan or something to get deco guns that don't have gay paint on them.

>Welcome. Welcome to Canada.
>You have chosen to relocate to one of our finest remaining urban centers. I thought so much of Canada that I elected to establish my Administration here, in the Parliament so thoughtfully provided by Our Benefactors. I have been proud to call Canada my home. And so, whether you are claiming asylum, or planning to stay with an expired visa, welcome to Canada. It's safer here.

How the fuck do you even make mechs make tactical sense?

They present a high as fuck target, have these thin chicken legs with a million moving parts, exert ludicrous ground pressure. They cost probably as much as a nuclear submarine, are limited by line of sight, would be fucked up by a tank, couldn't touch a modern jet that could kill it from 30000 feet high and 10 miles away etc.

Like how the hell do you bend the rules of your universe to make these

I wouldn't be sperging out about this if Battletech was lemonade sci-fi running on the rule of cool and the power of friendship, but its intended audience was milsim autists who willingly bought hundred-page pretend technical manuals for these pieces of garbage.

they're not changing the vehicle rules to make them easier to play; they're changing the vehicle rules to NERF THEM because the ability of vehicles to rape Mechs on tabletop has been ridiculously out of whack with canon for 2 decades now
>>
>>64740301
the rules are canon. The novels are fluff.
>>
>>64740301
>>64740327
Also to make them easier to play, because the rules suck ass.
It's not like vehicles are better right now either. They tested it on /tg/. Current vehicle rules put them firmly a hair below a similarly optimized mech + they can't fight in half the environments or situations you could encounter. If anything their only real strength is peoples lack of familiarity, from them being so unpopular, and if you kindly let your opponent know he might want to take a little alternative ammo their only advantage fades into green dust.
>>
>>64740258
>fanfiction
>that dickride Battletech so hard that a small laser can blow through the frontal armor of a Abrams at a kilometer
This is fully canon. All modern weapons are classed as primitive, BAR10 reduces everything primitive to chip damage, and all battletech weapons are basically instant internal crits to modern armor. A small laser might need a double or triple tap, maybe sloped armor can help against light autocannons or something, but an abrams taking fire from a battlemech is getting instantly fucked in exchange for what is likely completely negligible damage in turn.
Even space supremacy aside, battletech has straightforward material progression we don't have and it'd be like fighting aliens in a movie where our rounds bounce off them and they flash-fry everyone in a heatwave.
>>
>>64740258
Modern tank cannons exist in BT rules and don't do any damage to BAR10. However, by all accounts autocannons are the exact same as real world ones. Which makes me think that HESH rounds should work against mechs.

So we finally stopped worrying about that wartime ban on expanding bullets?
>>
>>64739979
We never started. Were you too young for GWOT or too old?
BTHPs were standard ammo for 7.62 DMRs (and SF using 300blk) because the manufacturing process enhances accuracy and the concomitant HP effect is purely coincidental ))). For 556 M855A1 started coming out in 2010-2012. It's not an HP you see, it's a green bullet ))) which has the same fragmenting effects as earlier 556 rounds, it simply frags independent of yaw and at lower velocities.

Rat?

We all know what a typical chamber pressure plots look like, pic related.
We also know that the bullet energy is basically the area under the plot.

Now, why don't we make a combination powder with fast + slow powder so instead of a triangular shape the pressure curve looks more like a rectangle? This way we can maintain high chamber pressures all the way until the muzzle. We could achieve significant area under the curve increases with this, as much as +50% compared to traditional powders that have very little pressure left over by the time the bullet gets to the muzzle.

We already try to do that. We're trying our best okay? This is the best we can do with current technology. We all know a horizontal line is the holy grail, but it's just not possible right now.
>>
>>64738890
Look, all I want is an actual good reason to use 20'' barrels, please make it happen.
>>
>>64739110
You have them already. Double base powders are dead common, triple base powders are less common but still available, and some boutique ammunition manufacturers use duplex powder charges.
>>
>>64738767
Part of it is that the amount of energy you can get is based on the amount of powder you can fit into the cartridge. I don't think you can flatten out the curve without reducing the peak height unless you start using more energetically dense materials than nitrocellulose. The other issue is that as the bullet moves down the bore, the available volume increases, and it becomes increasingly difficult to create high pressures.

I think tricks you can play like double/triple based powders or mixing powders can only stretch the curve a bit. I think if you really wanted to push things further, you'd probably need a fundamentally different propellant and a fundamentally different way to modify its decomposition.
>>
>>64738767
im pretty sure a pressure chart will always look like this simply because of physics

the pressure spike isnt from the rate of powder burning, but due to it being confined in the sealed cartridge. as the bullet flies down the barrel the pressure gets lower because the combustion volume increases

if you want the same pressure the entire time the bullet is in the barrel, youd need way more propellant and it would somehow have to burn at a linear rate. something like a potato gun but its a cartridge

Why isn't Russia putting explosives in their "advanced" super sonic missiles? This is the second time the "oreshnik" missiles have been used and they were empty again. I read they're very expensive, limited. People theorizing they were out of them already.

Not really, because shit has hit Poland and other NATO states before and the West has just covered it up or handwaved it. Hell, a RuAF aircraft locked onto a RAF aircraft - twice - and fired a missile - twice - at it and the Bongs covered it up saying it was a 'mechanical failure' until the recording their aircraft took of the event leaked and it turned out it wasn't an error. The only reason a couple hundred million dollar aircraft and dozens of people weren't killed was the EWS caused the first missile to miss and the second one didn't engage its propulsion and just fell into the ocean (hence the technically true but not really 'mechanical failure' excuse). Nobody wants to go to war with Russia and as long as things can be covered up or handwaved as accidental or 'rogue elements' then they will. It'd take a completely obvious attack to get any response and even then it'd likely be thoughts and prayers.

Good morning, /k/. Hopefully this doesn't kill a good thread.
I'm hoping someone still has this image. It was pretty regularly shared back in 2009-2012.
It was a "prepper" image, with half of it being greentext of a man talking to his anti-gun neighbor about prepping. His neighbor boasted about having food, medicine, gardening supplies, etc., but no guns to protect it. The man talking to him summed it up by saying something along the lines of "So you have food, medicine, and supplies. Your gun nut neighbor on the other side of you knows that you have it, and don't believe in owning guns. How will that work out for you if something happens?" And the greentext ends with "his face after I say this:", and it's an image of a man with a shocked look on his face. Does anyone have this image? Can you share it with me, please?
