I've decided to decease my internet time and blue light exposure, buy an ebook reader, and get used to finishing the day with some reading, instead of all the other things that give me insomnia. What /tg/-related books have you been reading anon, or what you think what other people should read too? I've read Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit before I knew what the hell ttrpgs even were. Same with the original Dragonlance books. I was thinking of picking up Elric of Melnibone and Original Conan the Barbarian. Already read and enjoyed Eisenhorn, most of the Slayer books with Gotrek, first 1.5 of the Black Company books. And dear god I haven't read books for fun in so long, what have I been doing?
>>96692436>her ex is cohabitating with a war vet dolphinWas.Also I don't rate Blindsight at all.On the subject of sci-fi, anyone playing Traveller should read a Dumarest book. Winds of Gath is the first one but continuity is minimal.
>>96692709>wasLet Johnny have nice things anon, he's tired. >I don't rateYou didn't read it or didn't appreciate it? It's a chewy one. I liked it a lot more than Echopraxia as it leaned more into Aliens ambush predator horror, but that one was fun for the brain candy, I actually enjoyed thinking about cancer cults and its implications. It brings to mind all the rituals people use on the river to Saraswati, makes me think about my own in a different light. Ever read Tik-tok by Sladek?
>>96693408>he's tiredDead tired.I read Blindsight about 10 years ago and didn't like it. I don't remember it that well but things like "vampires are scared of corners, not crosses" just seemed like desperate rationalisations, like Scully's attempts to contrive natural explanations for X-files.I have not heard of Tik-tok.
>>96693492They aren't scared of them, they have a fuck up in their brain that short circuits at them. And yeah, it's a fun rationalization for "why do we have these weird myths about apex human like apex predators." It's thin as fuck, but it's also a tiny part of the firefall duology.
>>96693538I found it representative of the whole thing though. And not really fun given how super seriously the book seemed to take itself.

>>96692319Do you mean to tell me that since every daemon in existence is weak to getting killed by a sword, they are all collectively made of the feeling of killing a guy with a sword? You realize this is fucking nonsense, right?>>96692300Seconded.
>>96692235So it's not actually said anywhere that they're immune to artillery?
>>96692342Yeah, they can be killed by artillery, it just takes a lot more of it.>>96692340Every daemon in existence is weak to SOMETHING. Unless you hit it with that, it will resist the attack (repped by their daemonic save on tabletop, where some daemons are weak to ranged and some are weak to melee). Some daemons straight up can't be killed because they're too tied to a concept - Drach'nyen for example, forged from the first time one human murdered another, and thus no human, human weapon, or human feeling can kill him. Not even the Emperor.
>>96692744Not gonna lie that is some 'skeweton king bweaks youw hands' type shit. As if I didn't have reason enough to ignore everything from the Heresy series.
>>96692833I choose to believe it, but with an important caveat: only 'current year' Imperium has this problem. In other eras the barrier was thicker and emotions had less overall influence on daemons, but now that they do humans could potentially use it to their undoing but we're not at that point yet.
I would have a small group remain loyal to the Empire and keep the name "War Hounds."
>>96693350I would argue that its a question of rarity. Writing loyalists who fall feels like "something thats already been done before" especially since we now have all the Heresy books showing how the loyalists did fall. But you never have books or stories about things going the other way, which makes it feel more unique. And thats always a draw for people. Frequently, its cringe, because that attracts special snowflakes too, but life is always a mixed bag like that. So I don't think its centered around wanting to be on the winning side. Im sure thats part of it, but not the majority of it.
>>96693394>So I don't think its centered around wanting to be on the winning side. That's 100% it. The loyalists are portrayed as the winning side, and right and strong whereas the traitors are wrong and weak and stupid.
>>96693402I very much doubt that across the entire fandom of people writing chapters or legions or alt history, that it all comes down to that one black or white dividing line as far as how people make their writing choices. But if it makes you feel better, you can indeed oversimplify like that.
>>96693466That's why people make loyalist elements of traitor chapters, 100%. I've talked to these people.

I don't mean urban fantasy, I mean high fantasy settings that have progressed to a state roughly analogous to modern society.Wizzas dealing scrolls in back alleys, paladins cracking down on black magic users, so on and so forth. I feel like there's a lot of room there to run a fun campaign.
I don't know OP. What do you actually want in such setting and maybe we'll be able to tell you what game does that.
>>96692887If you want Urban Fantasy, tries Charles de Lint. The writing and characters of his Newford novels are just better than Dresden. Not hating on Butcher--I've read them all. But if you like those, there's a good chance you'll like these even better.
>>96691668That sounds incredibly dumb and unimaginative.
>>96692678no, nobody here wants cyberpunk but with magic in it. otherwise op would have asked for cyberpunk. cyberpunk contains a bunch of tropes that are unrelated to modern fantasy and take the focus away from it's core ideas.
>>96693480That has nothing to do with whether or not Shadowrun is an example of exactly what OP explicitly, specifically asked for. Which it is.

>>96690927It's really deck dependent, you need to know what your opponent wants to do and when. You'll figure things out with experience, but here's a few rules of thumb:>digivolve or playDigivolving is safer and cheaper, playing is more of a last resort in most cases.>dna digivolve or digivolveDNA cards often don't benefit much from regular digivolving. It's harder to set up, but "when DNA digivolving" effects are usually very strong. >save a blast digivolveThis one's hard since blast digivolve is a mind game. It's a free digivolve to blast and can fuck up your opponent's turn, but experienced players will anticipate it if you've just got a level 5 sitting out, they'll bait and punish a poorly used ace, or just get rid of your level 5 before you can do it. It's down to experience to know the safest timing. >When to play tamersTry to play memory gain tamers early. Tamers are expensive, but there are a lot of digimon that can play them out for free.
>>96690927Find a decent easy to learn deck you can stick to for a bit. Some of my recommendetions would be Abaddomon, Accel, Adventure, CSIt helps knowing what your opponent deck does, but don't stress about it too much for now.
>>96690927Well I'm curious, what are you trying to play
Think insane synthetic monster will make chimeraDM competitive?
>Reg battle is block 4 and 5>no way to cleanly search for cards that fit that typing on card devIs there a better resource I can use? I have no idea what to play and want to figure something out.
What are some of your favorite digital board games? that is: board games that have a digital version of them? I just purchased Dune: Imperium and am really enjoying it. My other big favorite has been Twilight Struggle. I also just purchased Aeon's End for I think $1.50 and I love deck builders so I am interested to try that too. as much as I enjoy the physical games and playing with others, there is something to be said about playing on your PC vs the AI - it's fairly quick and easy.

There's so little content that uses Hotness that only way to raise your appearance/beauty/whatever ability score is to dedicate the ability score increases from levels to it. There are no manuals that give it an inherent bonus, not magic items for hotness, etc. Like IRL, you just have to learn to live with being a butter-face.

Related. My very-favorite fantasy series. I'm working hard on my campaign that'll use Worlds Without Number as a base.
>>96693410Arc Dream has the license right now, they're working on a game, haven't seen any details though. It'll be d100 and use the bonds system from DG, which makes some sense.
>>96693428>Arc Dream has the license right now,Yep I'm excited about that. More than anything, because Cook is on-board and that means official lore expansion. The campaign I want to run is the Pastel Wars. The players start as new recruits w/ the Company. They quickly find out that the Company is fuckin' evil, and become turncoats, joining the Triplet Cities to wage war against the Paingod. Hilarity and violence ensue. I've got the first part, where they're still with the company, mostly prepped. Their first mission is to join the pioneers and secure the temple of Ravi Lemna in Cho'n Delor as the Company's base of operations. A bloodless coup ensues. The players then get increasingly fucked up missions "assassinate these innocent people," "take over the House of Heaven economy," "destroy these temples" until I'm certain my players will finally say "fuck this shit" and discover the cannibalism/human-sacrifice aspects then still active among the priests of the Company, spurring them to flee where they'll get picked up by the three Odds. Campaign flow-chart related.

The major issues with 3rd/4th were the rhino rush and sweeping assault combined with power weapons. Because of how only AP2/3 mattered a lot came down to who had the most power weapon attacks in melee then sweeping advance into another target to be safe from shooting. Invulnerable saves weren't as common either.Instant death mangled Eldar, DEldar and guard.
