In this case, it's because Uma is just a pretty good IP for its own reasons, not that it makes horse racing cool because "Thing, Japan". There is none of that in the game or the various series. Instead, it mixes cute anime girls with simple personalities, either being silly or serious and dramatic in a pretty easy to follow sports anime formula, mixed with real world horse lore, which is kinda fascinating. It's not because Japan made losing your life savings at the track seem cool, either, because there is no gambling on horses in the umaverse. It's all done purely for the love of racing.

They're basically the androids from Blade Runner but much more dangerous, with built in weapons and super strength. Them snapping and going on violent rampages to rebel against their human owners is what inspired Cyberpsychosis in the lore.

Not exactly a gun person so can someone explain why .45 is low power? It does 2d6+2 while 10mm which is supposed to be high power does 2d6+3

10mm ammo is higher velocity than 45 ACP, and Kinetic Energy = ½ mass*velocity2. It just hits its target harder. Historically 10mm's a newer round than 45 ACP and 9mm and there's never been a real push to equip 10mm sidearms to military/law enforcement in the same way that 45 ACP/9mm got widely adopted, so it's also seen as more niche round. General advice is carry no smaller than 10mm for woods self-defense (ie bears and big cats), with 45 ACP being less favorable again due to physics.

Does anyone have the metal Dwarf Engineers that GW currently sells (and have opinions on them)? Doing more reading on Dwarves, the Expeditionary Force aspect of the army seems exactly the idea I had in mind when imagining a Dwarf army, and figure getting them as a core of characters would be a good idea.

My friend was like that as well and now he loves the setting. We convinced him to join a Dark Heresy campaign as a tribal death world recruit, so he could still play as a "fantasy" character, just thrown into a very alien world. He enjoyed it very much and soon got fully into 40k.

Honestly nice thing about 40k is that depending on what you prefer you can present it as almost hard sci-fi with a few soft elements, you can present it as almost fantasy with a big focus on space knights and daemons, or you can present it as something in-between. So maybe just ask your players to give it a try for a single one-shot and lean more towards the second approach, who knows, maybe it will buy them. Just don't shower them in lore right out of gate

Honestly from my experience people who claim they "don't like sci-fi" mostly have stuff like Star Trek or classic raypunk space operas in mind. Which is still abysmally shit taste, but 40k is almost as far away from that tonally and aesthetically as it is from D&D. And if they refuse to even give it a single try out of courtesy for you, that's just being a stubborn asshat

Haven't read the thread yet but are there many examples of armies in D&D? I'd imagine outside of B/X, full scale armies would be bullshit and OP, making the setting a bit OTT marvelesque?

You get a similar thing when looking at TES military, it quickly becomes unfuckable garbage under scrutiny because armies have to be bulked out by generic infantry, cavalry & archer units when in reality even Joe the Shoe Cobbler can be slinging spells like an elite troop.

The lads were ahead of their time. Flesh and Blood was always a broken system. The players simply operated under the assumption that LSS knew what they were doing and hoped it would all work out in the end. Three years later and it just plain isn't working anymore.

It's mostly just this thread, there are occasionally a few disgruntled opinions I see on other social media outlets but for the most part its pretty neutral. Generally when metas get boring/stale or when there's some controversy around you see a surge in posting. I think the Dev Talk video that people are crashing out about on here was pretty much universally well-received outside of their treatment of Blitz, which isn't the main thrust of the complaints here

Finally finished the box of french infantry, at least to tabletop play levels. Might add a wash an some grass later.

Now I got my english army complete, and all of the french but the cavalry complete.

Some acceptable photos of my knights now. Glad heraldry was still simple during the 12th and 13th centuries.

28mm Barons War minis by Footsore that I'm using for the Barons War Outremer expansion. The one in red is my leader, the historical figure Conrad of Montferrat, one of the leaders during the third crusade and was instrumental in preventing Saladin from capturing Tyre and later being elected king of Jerusalem before being murdered by the Assassins. His standard bearer flies the blazon of Jerusalem but his shield indicates he's from Ibelin.
