"honey blonde" was the term I recall describing Coco's hair from my early days in /slop/.
Though Bing was never able to white parse that with other characters in the prompt to the point I'd often have to tell Bing just straight "yellow blonde" when crossing her over with Piro just to keep her hair distinct from Piro's which is plain white.

Accidental Encounter Edition

>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

>Maybe describing it in the timeline as “Crimean war ends in Allied humiliation, despite their victory. Treaty of Berlin. Russian secures the independence of the Danubian Principalities and Serbia, as well as assurances on Bulgarian autonomy”
But this is completely not what I wrote. Tsardom would be in no position to make any demands, let alone these ones.
>China
Yeah, I'm mostly illiterate on China, but I really doubt the Taiping victory would result in them just gigngerly occupying all of China. The fall of and flight of the Qing government a perfect chance for the fringes of the empire to become de facto independent and have outside powers make opportunistic plays. Qing exiles in Manchuria was not my idea, I have no qualms giving it to the Taipings.
>Greece
Because it literally happened in the actual Russo-Turkish war lol.
>Egypt and Persia campaigns
I don't care enough to argue, we can start it in 1871, sure. The war itself, now that I think about it, could be over by winter if the Tsardom is supposed to be really STRONK.
>Paris Treaty
Italy doesn't have to be there to be dissatisfied.
The treaty itself can't be that favorable to the Tsardom. Even the boldest claims made in San-Stefano didn't imply full independence for anyone in the Balkans, just creating a huge Bulgaria as a de jure vassal and more autonomy for Bosnia. More bold ideas floated around, but the competing interests wouldn't allow them to materialize. But as it is, this treaty puts the Ottomans in a state almost as bad as at the outbreak of the first Balkan war. Perhaps that alone is enough to embolden Egypt and Persia (especially if the latter is influenced by the Tsardom). There's also the factor of Murad. IRL he was a crazy man, here he is a crazy man with the plan. His actions are already determined by the existence of Agartha, the Giza entrance and whatever he hoped to find there.
>>
>>96815103
>>96815114
>timing
I'm very much following the vibes and what seems to be the consensus. Murad needs to actually do something underground before shit really hits the fan. One year and some change is enough calm before the storm. I'm also trying to tie everything in with the internal turmoil the Tsardom experienced in late 70s, so Necropolis Incident happening in 74 and Crisis ending in 77 or 78 works better for me. Trust the plan. It will be glorious.
>Constantinople
But the landing now happens after the start of the show. The situation is much different from the original proposal, as after the Incident, even before Murad returns, it is crystal clear that something is rotten in the Ottoman empire and restoring order before they have some kind of Middle Eastern undead Paraguay on their hands would take precedence over any other concerns.
Oh, sure, everyone would know what the Tsardom is pulling, but what are they supposed to do? Just let the city fall? Let the British do their own landing? Will anyone at this point be wiling to just drop everything and oppose the Tsardom? It's not like they get to hold it anyway.
>Italo-Ethiopian war
I think it works fine. They get a seat in Athens, sign the Triple Alliance and get German and (more) Austrian backing. I imagine they'd also be working overtime since 1868 to cajole Britain. Britain's only real concern with Duosiciy/Italy would be in the early years, when they could potentially serve a staging ground for another wave of 1848 or even 1789. After 1868 they are just a regular tyrannical regime that dumps an ambiguous number of people every year into Stromboli. So I don't think anyone would fuck with them directly. This leaves France and the Pope to turn it into a proxy war.
>Egypt borders
Once gain, I followed on others' input. I'd be down to have independent Hejaz. The only stake I have is that pretty much everyone would do their best to cuck the Husks out of the Red Sea and the Gulf.
>>
>>96815114
>Would this be a fleet-based effort? What would this entail exactly? The husks don’t have many ships, if any by the time of the end of the war.
It would entail making sure that nothing makes it in and out, and any refugees undergo inspections. Not just to deny the Husks... well, everything, but to ensure no genius who decides to trade with the fallen empire does not bring a boat full of Husks or some necrotic doomsday artifact home. I imagine smuggling still happens. Some Husks are clearly lucid enough and there's a living population there too.
>Also, while we’re at it, what would happen with the renegade ottoman admirals and captains who want nothing to do with the husk sultan?
Okay, hear me out. What if the Ottoman Empire still exists de jure? Abdul Hamid II is relocated to Cyprus (still nominally an Ottoman territory, as per the treaty), where he rules as sultan and caliph in official capacity. It's just that the British handle, well, everything there. The remnants of the Ottoman navy help protect their home seas under British command. Ditto for German Mesopotamia, though the sultan is yet to visit. Britain and Germany are civilized law abiding powers, they would never engage in barbaric landgrabs. It's all legitimate, perfectly over the table.
>>
>>96819416
Another idea would be a sort of Secret Passages thing, but with a physical entrance on the map, but that might just be better as an environmental thing.

I don't tend to think of them as Hyperborean aligned. To my mind, they are there for the game, not the pain, but i guess you don't really get to chose if you are Hyperborean aligned or not. Just thinking out loud.
>>96819622
Regardless of how it effects the other factions, I don't like the idea of any country having a hyperspace program at present. I could come round to it, but again, it feels like it should be a separate thing. Polar Explorers mini-faction? The problem i see with a Polar Explorers faction, is that it would be hard to contrive reasons for them to interact with other groups, though Vega would be a cool leader. I'd be cool with the Tsardom having one, if it could be cleverly tied to the Eye.
The cracking of the Firmament is different, because they didn't know there was such a thing. It's one thing to accidentally discover Hyperborea, and another to go actively seeking it. Generally, I think anything to do with purposeful Hyperborean exploration should be saved for 'the future'. Also, i feel like if you manged to send someone up the PAIN Waterfall, they wouldn't come back.
Separate from all that, I really do not want Denmark to be a Hyperborean faction. It just has too much gravity, that i fear it would eclipse everything else.

If we are still on for tomorrow morning (10am?), this would be my list.
-Leader: 29
GS Commander (17) Confederado (3) Horse (6) Webley (2) Sabre (1)
-Characters: 56
Dirt Man (8)

Some of them heard about Thomson guns falling from the sky and are too busy excitedly arguing over the proper tactical usage of such weapons to consider the broader implications. Others are attempting to acquire more and greater weapons still.

I actually really like that idea. A sisterhood, working underground, and going around trying to help prevent these spawn being brought into the world, doing what they can to aid those who are going through what they went through - but at great risk to themselves. After all, the cults are not happy about their actions.

It'd be neat if failing to deliver different types of eldritch spawn led to different fates.
>burst
>assimilated
>soul consumed
>body hijacked
>written out of reality, nobody remembers you
>loins become a gateway to the underworld, endlessly popping out demons
>immolated birthing a living flame like Izanami-no-Mikoto
>enslaved and turned into a living palanquin
>identity death, forever your spawn's most fervent worshiper
>caught in event horizon of your black hole stomach, frozen in time for eternity

Maybe you choose a cosmic horror to carry at character creation? Tradeoff between something giant but docile, small and angry, weak but numerous, quiet subtle mind manipulator, glowing feeling of un/holy exaltation, unnaturally heavy, pointy, slimy, etc. Maybe a minor powerset, passive supernatural effects positive and negative. Some specific rituals you can invoke, though exploiting them wouldn't just court disaster: you've gone all the way with disaster and are ready to pop out Disaster Junior. There's lots to do with variable length pregnancies unless the campaign converges on one big birthing event.

Primal. In fact I'd consider it more elemental-themed than gravimancer, since gravimancer is more about gravity manipulation and healing, though one of the veteran classes is themed around water and the tides.

Next Hassan has a meeting with all the High Lords in an effort to convince them to go against Dorn and stick up for themselves even if it means supporting Guilliman.
They get offended and say he is trying to use them like Malcador did.
They all leave and Hassan is deflated.

The traitor gang lost a few IW and WB getting to the space station but once aboard they find an old Blood Angel ship a bit larger than a stormbird.
The WB offhandly give the repair job to the IW who do it while seething in their mind the whole time.
While repairing it the lone SoH, Xhamaddon tries to recruit the IW to his side so he can overthrow the WB. The IW, Theokon tells him that he should run when the chance arises as everyone wants to kill the SoH now.

When ready they manage to escape back into the sol system as some more fleeing traitors distract the Ultramarine killer ships.
The WB leader, Adraharsis makes the plan to go to Neptune as forces had been left there during the initial attack.

Next the meeting to decide what to do next occurs.
All important people on Terra attend.
Two chairs are left empty for the Raven Guard and Iron Hands as there is nobody of high enough rank on Terra to represent them.

>Because shounen characters generally increase a wide variety of abilities and attributes over time in a gradual way
Which is an unholy pain in the ass to juggle in ala carte progression without getting blindsided by a conditional defense you forgot about the last few sessions and the GM missed your failure to progress, so levels are rather good to use for it because they keep the numbers treadmill in an easily-balanced proportion.

>or even just learn a singular new ability, transformation, or trick
...You do know that D&D has literally always had this separate from leveling up, right? Because Wizards learning spells by level-up was an addition by WotC, before that it was chargen, loot the diagrams, or research it yourself. Sure, Vancian is shit for any Shonen power set, but the precedent remains utterly foundational.

>than going up an incremental, abstract power ladder, like D&D's class levels
The increments do not have to be diegetic, merely discretizing a continuous scaling like how much Qi a Dragonball character has to throw around. Again, you seem to be rejecting the idea of abstracting ANY minute detail from the source material out of the system for convenience of play, which is a very difficult way to go about making a TTRPG modeled off a work of genre fiction.

Everywhere I've looked people only want to run asynchronous play-by-post. Games advertised as live text get a dearth of responses compared to PbP and voice. Players even feel entitled to tell you they've lost interest because it's not one of those formats.

Was there some revolution I slept on? Years ago you used to be able to find something. Now an entire summer went by without a single game showing up.

God damn it feels like this whole hobby died out of nowhere.

I am running a "live text" game every week over Discord and Foundry VTT, with people that I have played several such games with before. We met in an AdEva game, and some players said they preferred text and disliked voice, so we decided to be text-primary. And then stayed that way.

I kind of hate it. I much prefer voice, with text as a side-channel. It is fine as a player, but quite stressful when I'm the GM and need to be responding to multiple people, as well as juggling notes, VTT interactions, and adjudicating rolls and rules.

But yes, text games still exist, they just became more private, less likely to be openly advertised.

People should read those regardless.

The Appendix N is a solid set of books, and one of the easiest ways to improve your games is to go through and read as much of them as you can. Though, not necessarily in alphabetical order like they're listed. Reading Zelazny should actually probably be a priority over most of the other authors.

Contemporary LGBT activism is out of place in D&D and WotC doing some rainbow capitalism while they mistreat their employees and price gouge their customers is actually especially objectionable.

This is only a problem if you play with people who cannot separate fantasy from reality.

Intricate backstories are fine, as long as they don't override the game because a player with main character syndrome expects top priority over the rest of the table.

It is a problem, but only if you feel the need to inflict yourself on the rest of the hobby and expect your opinions and myopic understanding of the hobby to be treated as wholly valid.

I always pick different skills at gang creation so every champion has a unique skill.
When I get enough XP to earn a new skill I always roll randomly

Cheers anon, you're the best!
Now to figure out if I want to paint up another 3-4 enforcers to adjust my gang for the new book or just start fresh with the box of squats I have for next campaign. Hmm.

What does playability mean?
As a noob to tabletop, I tried to pick up Kill Team but there were a lot of weird rules and shit to keep track of. I got into Blood Bowl and it's much more intuitive and fun. That said, I'll give kill team another try sometime

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade Gygaxian D&D, its various modern clones, and content created specifically for use with this. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade (74-83) — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread, feel free to check them out for answers:

Note the link to the pastebin works fine; the problem was the upload to the anon file site. It redirects now.

Can't help the retarded. Adjust the ratio between 1:200 to 1:1000 as needed. Shit's not complicated.

Esoteric Enterprises and Deep Morphean Transmissions. Probably get more traction discussing them and WoD style stuff in the nusr thread.
