I finally got around to watching True Detective S1, really good shit, watched it with my pa too. Got me in a certain mood so I dug up my collection of Machen short stories and the complete John Silence stories I got for my birthday a couple years back, they scratch the itch somewhat. Getting back into X-Files too and I'm wondering if anyone has any particular favorites when it comes to that genre of occult detective and/or conspiracy thriller with horror overtones?

>>97265135I mean there's an article where they talk about it in one of the Citadel books. It's glazing with black ink, then selective blotting and cleanup with pure white. You can see the coffee-stain circle on her thigh from a bubble they used for atristic effect
>>97266306No worries, enjoy it. A brush that feels good to use is a treasure, and even when it can no longer hold a tip it is useful. A soft nice brush with a frayed tip is excellent for drybrushing in small areas.
A small band of dwarves is finished and ready to reclaim Moria.
>>97266308What you're doing there looks more like volumetric highlighting than edge highlighting, but yeah for edge highlighting you could go a little brighter. The shade on the fingers and the top of the left knee looks good though I can't tell if that's actually a different shade of blue paint or just the same one as your other highlights overlapping better with the highlights of the actual lighting.
>>97264846Update. I need to do the transfer next..>>97265403I'm not sure. But the black im going with is basically this. It's got a bit of some bluish grey midtones, but yes more iron looking I suppose.
humans are boring nuff said
>>97252408Nigger, bump.
>>97252183Even Boorawchick likes Vangers beeb.
>>97244827When you make a fantasy world, the only valid options are:1- Humans are everywhere and anyone else is from some other place.2- Due to the actions of the gods, many races exist and are expected to either share the world or kill all others, depending on whether it's a good race or a bad race.2- One specific non-human race is in ascendancy, and humans are subject to racism at the edge of that race's dominion. No other races exist, or if they do, they are offshoots of one of the two races. If your world is anything but one of these, it's crap. But thankfully almost all stories fit into one of these. Only (2) can serve for a setting where the players have more than a handful of race picks normally though. Oh, it's a weird bee person? Well, you were made by the bee-god, who wants you to have dominion over certain hills in certain places or something. Oh, and you can fly, how convenient. Etc.
>>97244827MAGA (Make Aliens Great Again)There have been many unique alien species created in sci-fi, but they've been falling into the fantasy tropes of "We're humans if humans were X". No consideration of their homeworld, the species they evolved from, or anything like that. Infinite carbon based lifeforms with 70% water composition. Predators got a whole tribal hunter culture built around their upbringing as a carnivorous hunting species.40k Orks are psychic créatures so stupid that they can bend reality to their will by accident and multiply like rabbits on meth. These are two examples that I can come up with off the top of my head, but I know there are more. I'm sick of generic sci-fi turning into human politics but if it was space and also they were slug people/furries
>>97244887Your aliens are blue humans with rubber foreheads because you lack imagination and you are pathologically obsessed with appealing to human audiences. We do not all suffer beneath such burdens.

>>97265685>wixoss>Main deck>LRIG deck>tn note: LRIG is girl spelled backwardsI don't think it being anime is what held it back
>>97265685I think being put off by the Disney aesthetic and being put off by the anime aesthetic are different things, but the both may apply to someone whose idea of what a TCG should look like is MtG, and they also apply independently to groups that are fine with the other (for example I'm fine with anime but don't really like Lorcana's looks, despite actually enjoying Disney's animation too). But the success of the underlying IPs is definitely the big factor keeping TCGs alive in the west. MtG is the only self made one and even it is bending the knee more and more to crossovers (whether that's a necessity or just Hasbro's greed is another matter). Yu-Gi-Oh had a long and successful anime even if it's over now, Pokémon is the biggest franchise in the world, Disney is Disney, and I don't think it's a coincidence the biggest new game is the one based on one of the most successful anime/manga properties ever. Japan seems to have its own deep rooted enjoyment for card games by themselves that lets original ones flourish but here in the west people need a hook to get them to play one and 'here's cool cards of characters you like' is a pretty good hook.
Wtf is rollslop? I can't keep up with all these zoomer words.

>>97265925Oh, my bad. That could actually work, but I wonder if it's even worth it. Scouts can't declare a charge on the first turn, so what's your strategy there? Flying DPs are already very mobile, are you just trying to close the distance even faster, or are you pre-positioning to get spells off on turn 1 rather than turn 2? Putting your relatively fragile DP so close to your opponent's battle line is risky. Also, your DP would already fly, so being able to move through cover doesn't actually do anything. It can work, don't get me wrong, but unless you already have a strategy in mind, I don't think it's actually going to do you much good. It would still let you take the ogre blade, so it's not worthless, but I don't value scouts very highly because it messes up your deployment and makes it so your opponent will most likely get the +1 on the roll-off to see who takes first turn, which is something chaos desperately wants to have at all times.
>>97266031Seems like a strong way to combat artillery or something like a casketYou don't have to use Scout either, so you might get your opponent to deploy in an odd way to not have to deal with a surprise DP
>>97265921Hardly, the players are the same low quality, the rules are both mediocre, the setting and models are what make it special, but the recent new model are slowly ruining that too
>>97265664Is this Battle March? Looks comfy
>>97265988it depends, what's their role?I gave them spears because they look nice with them
Do you prefer systems with a strict class-based martial/caster division or classless systems that allow anyone to dip into anything at the cost of never being great at it?
>>97262029That has never happened in my games. Maybe you need better players.
>>97262948Yeah, but that would take effort. It's better and easier to just put a sticky note on the table that says "gm decides everything" and tell people to find a new group if they don't like it.That way you can focus on the stories and worldbuilding a lot more.
>>97229027This looks like shit
>>97264083Or you could play with your friends with whom you're on the same wavelength in terms of game expectations.

I'm surprised by how many people have tried to make a healing Fighter subclass before.
>>97263231This happened a surprising amount with one of the players in our party. It's not like it was the first time she'd played a TTRPG before, though it was her first experience with 5e specifically, and a good chunk of her turns would be spent with "I move and then do nothing" because she couldn't fathom using alternative actions, magic items in her inventory, or doing anything that wasn't just attacking. Hell, half the time she'd have to be reminded to rage as a Barb or to apply her bonus Frenzy damage.
>>97263302Healing always feels like a losing proposition because it's less efficient than just killing things most of the time. Having the ability to patch up a wound is good and Healing Word is a lovely spell to have in the party because it doesn't eat up a main action, but sources of healing almost never outstrip damage taken, so it results in players feeling like they've been caught in a backslide. Short resting usually covers healing needs as long as they fight effectively and mitigate damage as much as possible with smart engagement, so the most you can really offer are a handful of healing potions or scrolls with healing spells imprinted.
>>97263442This. Rarely in the games I've played in do players have an opportunity to just kick back for an hour unless they're already in a safe situation where they don't need to worry about healing or resource recovery. In a dungeon? Fear of being interrupted. In the wilderness? Same. Out on the road? They're either relatively safe or they're in an urgent chase or race against time and may not have the chance to rest or otherwise could just stop and make camp, at which point healing isn't even a big deal.
>>97263442>>97263421In my personal experience, we never take one-hour breaks. I mean, if we can rest after several fights, it's usually a full eight-hour stretch.

>>97263111I'm using the genesys hack so it plays a little bit different compared to the 1d100 system. And on top of that I'm very liberal with what is considered canon and possible in the wh40k verse so keep that in mind. In general I'm using the rogue trader and his changing retinue as a vehicle to get into differently flavoured adventures depending on what kind of idea I'm floating in my head. Not too much book-keeping and more, fly to planet xy take a look around whats going on there and then get into problems. That means you have to take the Star Trek approach and only ever have the core group of 2-4 officers roll out and once combat breaks out you ultimately have a scene where your scion of imperial authority dukes it out with either his saber or fists 1vs1. Otherwise you go insane in combat. The system allows for good social encounters so that is a big plus when you throw in new NPCs and trying to figure out how they could react besides good/bad. And if a combat scene isn't reducable to 2-4 key actors I use the mass combat system where the trader leads his men heroicly from the back with a commanding presence. Space combat is already better if you play it out alone so there is that. Things I gloss over most of the time is supplies, tradable goods and travel that goes back between known places unless it's a difficult route.
