Literally the most google-able thing of the question. It's literally in the name: Sanctioned Abhumans are the ones that have permission to exist and not be purged. And the scale of "normal" doesn't exist as long as they're useful enough, look at Navigators turning into fleshy monsters as they age but living in luxury because they're needed.

yeah it makes much more sense to keep mental/abstract structures in the meme/idea category and to keep physical structures/places/objects in the structure type. this was mostly constructed from my accumulated 4chan image downloads, and physical structures are by far the least represented category. there were naturally a lot more images in the entity and meme category.

this issue with the structure images also applies to stories, which are basically memes image wise. practically they were the overfill which didn't have a place in a color.

i may explore turning stories into a meta type, like energies, and that way the 72 stories can be distributed back to 4 of each of the 3 types of each of the 6 colors (12 cards back to each of the colors, which makes all the 7 colors have the same number of cards)

when you were referring to the purple/violet similarity, were you referring to them as energies (when they are upside down and all you see is the bottom stat symbol background), them in play (their border colors), or both?

I looked at the cards and noticed there is an error on my end, where the "violet" (magenta purple) stat symbol color is still purple or near purple. the border colors are more differentiatable though.

I was messing with the purple/violet colors up until right before printing, trying to coordinate their clear differentiation due to similarity in appearance.

I believe this also occurred on 1 or 2 of the sub types of the red cards border colors.

In any case, i think i'm going to remove the dedicated "story" (silver) type altogether, and convert it to a meta type (any card can be played as a story/narrative element into the narrative zone (keeping the narrative zone and mechanics), sort of like energies. this will also free up the silver color, which I can assign to psi, and that should solve all the color problems. silver also makes a kind of sense with psi.

this will also allow me to assign a proper violet to what is called "violet" now, but is more of a magenta purple.

it solves all the color issues and streamlines/simplifies gameplay all at once.

If your party gets a scroll of a Silence spell in the beginning of the adventure, and later, among other enemies and traps, spellcasters who have to say their spells out loud, sirens, and finally banshees, would you consider that clever, or at least good encounter design?

At the same time, if that cucks the bard and the spellcasters in your party who also rely on sound / spells w verbal components? Would you be ok if they actually use it in a sneak segment?

I think it's worth discussing how to give players alternative solutions to problems but honestly? I think they'd be too stupid to realize, but on the slight chance they come up with it on their own I think it's better never to hold their hand.

Anyways, post stories with this kind of neat interactions if you have some.

That's definitely decent encounter design, to have a moment where clear recollection of the sum of the party's capabilities is rewarded.

As far as alternative solutions go, I have come to the belief that players should be able to run plans by you, with some kind of mental roll (Int or Wis for d20 stuff, I guess) with how well they roll determining if their character can think of flaws or issues with their plan. They can, of course, choose to ignore the results of this roll and act on whatever plan they want, but the roll should help them, if good.

I tend to make games that are more open and complex than the standard dungeon crawl myself, so I can't say I actually DO it myself, but it's good where appropriate.

Give shadowrun players a macguffin that will solve their problem and they will calculate that a car is cheaper than the macguffin and hit the problem with a truck instead.
Then get paid twice on selling the macguffin instead of using it. And then either invest 100% of funds into mechanical upgrades and live in a dumpster, or invest 100% of the money on useless tat and live in a dumpster.

Not in a game but been writing a Monk. Her name is Nian Huachun, she's a member of the Wan Zu, a group of Chinese alchemists and scholars who act as devil-slayers and exorcists for the Emperor. Their shtick is they recruit people to join their order then turn them into chi-sucking dhampir who live as long as elves and act as 'living ancestors' socially. In return for undying service to the Emperor they're given legal and moral access to the chi they need to sustain their long lives. Nian herself is the daughter of a great Chinese general who, when she was dying of a deadly ailment, broke into the palace and begged/forced the Emperor to somehow save her. His solution was turning her into a Wan Zu. Everything was great when it happened and she was 17 but now she just turned 100 and most of the people she knows are dead and she's having an existential crisis over the prospect of another six and a half centuries, so she's thrown herself into her work, spends all her money on wine and frivolous distractions, and is searching for the enlightenment her serene bastard elders assure her is out there that will make the ages bearable. Also she's a fish out of water story, I hope to use her in a normal D&D setting but say she got into a series of shipwrecks and other troubles over the last few months that saw her end up far far from home.

NTA, but while brainstorming a general approach or plan is fine, it does risk bogging things down and wasting time if the players try to go full spec-ops tactics. It's unlikely the party is going to be able to clear out a dungeon in a series of one-sided ambushes, and so time spent on elaborate plans attempting to achieve that is just wasteful.
But simple plans, like waiting for a dragon to be out hunting before heading into its lair, or luring out some orcs from their camp to divide their forces, stem from interacting with the game world, and the DM having the world react in turn.

In both cases, the issue is when the players go overboard. Trying to make a perfect character or a perfect plan just isn't worth it.
