I like tom and respect his opinion but I've grown tired of their slowly presented top 100 years ago. It'd be fine if they were either better at describing the essence of a game or had more visuals, as I remember it it was largely the picture of the games box with a 7 minute monologue struggling to convey why some nebulous concept in the game is really fun.

So I've just gotten Marrakesh after telling queen games I want my money back because of their complete radio silence for 9 or so months. They actually upgraded it to deluxe edition for free because the one I pledged was sold out. Holy shit, what a scam this is.
Aside from the """"deluxe"""" edition being basically the og game with a few screenprinted meeples sold at a premium, it came with gametrayz. Neat, I initially thought. But holy shit. People unironically pay for these flimsy pieces of shit plastic? It's not even a full step above these standard molded plastic inserts. I genuinely don't think throwing everything in ziplocks is any slower. Also, imagine my suprise that even the deluxe edition doesn't come with metal coins, that's something you'll have to buy extra ;^)

Are all deluxe versions such massive scams?

So my DND group was kind of disolving, 2 out of the 4 players left because of life issues (one got a job abroad and the other one is dealing with life), to keep playing we incorporated 2 new players with not so much experience but avid watchers of Critical Role.

One of these player conditions was that we incorporate x cards to the game, she says that it makes it much more comfortable for her to know she can avoid unpleasant story elements having this tool.

I started to read a bit about it online and is this something you guys have used? In my 20 years playing I've never used this.

On average people shouldn't have triggers. There are people who have serious issues in their past but chances are good you're probably not going to play with one and when they do show up their the exceptions you should know about in advance. Otherwise anyone with a trigger is just a spoiled tit who was coddled to long and never learned how to deal with shit.

>In my 20 years playing I've never used this.
Basically this.
The initial idea was that at convention games, which can be a bit odd or unusually emotionally heavy compared to other gaming, played with strangers who are a bit odd or unusual compared to other gamers, would be able to communicate there was a problem while playing in public.
Haven't seen it used for that, but that was the idea.
Also came about when there was a lot of crossover in the bdsm community and 2000s indi rpg stuff, and those assholes really like rules for controling what people do and arguing about what consent means. And then manipulating those rules so they can get what they want. The results are fairly predictable.
Worst part is one of the most publicized rpg games where an X card would have worked really well, played by a crowd that was really into shit like X cards, all failed to use it and instead turned it into a weird passive aggressive cancel thing afterwards. Fuck Adam Kobel but also lol.
>>
wouldnt it have made leagues more sense for an x card just to be handed in before the game began so the dm could adjust any existing plans?
>>
>>97366248
Consent/trigger forms are also a thing, put some groups don't want to deal with that sort of paperwork (or risk misuse of provided information).

Ahhhh if only that were actually true. You need to know your opponents comboes choke points and how to recover from your opponents interactions and hand traps hitting your choke points with less than ideal resources, likewise how to play through your opponents reduced board states. Maybe 10 our so years ago you would have had a point but not anymore.

>feel like it is straightforward from the get go
Not as much as you'd think. Learn the assist system, it's fundamental and yet plenty of players refuse to heed it and allow their defensive lines to get unraveled by just some mildly smart positioning. If you get the vidya it can be a good kicking off point, it does a lot of the work for you in the background though so reading the rulebook is very recommended to understand exactly what's going on. I'm in an online league that runs off BB2 myself, that's a ruleset more similar to BB2016 but legendary edition gives you all the teams and goes cheap during sales.

BFG is quite interesting regarding army size and game duration. You got less units, but you got alot of weapons to fire. And there is a time when a squadron splits and suddenly the movements become units.

Thanks man. Unfortunately, I think they are one of those 'factions' that slips through the cracks. Most people into medieval wargaming are interested in western Europe, and if they aren't interested in western Europe, they are interested in the crusades, in which Byzantine forces played only a small role with the exception of the 4th and even that, not really. And if you like the early middle ages, then up to about the 7th C (just) you can just use the ubiquitous late Romans, with a little modification if you are really into accuracy.

It's a real shame, but not unsurprising - the market dictates what is made.
>>
>>97363434
>>97363829
I recently discovered that all Byzantine minis based on Osprey publishing books are wrong. They didn't wear a padded garment over armor, that's the researcher translating or interpreting evidence wrong. I believe V&V have the most up-to-date Byzantines. There's also a Russian guy that sculpts good Byzantines but I've forgotten his name.
>>
>>97364431
It’s not technically incorrect, it was just not the standard practice that older Osprey books made out - the quilted gambeson was called a νευρικόν, and the Taktika of Leo VI states that all soldiers should wear mail (λωρίκιον αλυσίδετον) UNLESS they could not afford it, in which case they could wear the νευρικόν alone (Leo VI, Taktika, Diataxeis 5-6).

>t. Wasted my life getting a PhD in Byz history.
>>
>>97364535
Or rather, I should say you are correct that they didn’t wear it over mail (which is commonsense really) - but they clearly did wear a quilted gambeson alone if they were poor enough.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

tbdesu i used to think this way until giving old school games a try and playing a bunch more crpgs. in reality you can play something like 5e in an old school way just like you can play ose in a "new" school way. some people take to the pseudo mmo west marches style old school stuff, some people like the more on rails with feats and traits and whatever. i can see the merits in both styles even if i personally prefer running old school games because i like dungeon crawling more than being theater kids. if you're playing it with your friends then it'll be fun no matter what.

I'm aware of that but I'm hoping for something higher detail and lower effort, stuff like this. I'm doing a Rogue Trader campaign with my boys. We were gonna lay out a whole command staff living area and customize each of our rooms, and I had the idea that we could just take an existing map of some historical baroque/rococo palace or something and then edit it to be more 40k. I assumed that there would be a billion people who have run historical campaigns and have made proper maps with textures, furnished interiors, etc for them, but I can't seem to find any.

Because 4chan is anonymous and /exg/ is the second most active place discussing Exalted after the Discord and the main counterdiscussion to what's considered there. If anybody on the Exalted team thought they were in an echo chamber and wanted to get opinions from outside of their own social sphere and preferably anonymously so that their own groups don't ostracize them for associating with the other, here is the place to go. We also sometimes get homebrew coming through.

I'm not saying they are here, but it wouldn't be crazy to think they lurk.

Technically the min max is lose one survivor and then roll twins and +10 starting survivors for exactly 15 but that's super rare.

But if you unlock 15 early you bring the hand fucks with no gear and get stomped and lose 4

Cry more faggot, getting fucked over sometimes is part of the experience. Loose yourselves from the binds of the meta and that faggot Fen and have some fun sometimes and deal with the consequences when they come up.

>AI thread where people just dump random art.
They have a prompt theme for every thread. But all of us here know that you're not really here to post and appreciate ai art or elves.

They're parodies of elves rather than the genuine article. It's like calling that weird Thumb Wars CN special a canonical Star Wars movie.

>slop == art
No you little retard, those are not the same thing.
Making art is something that skilled people can do, something they have spend time training to do. They impose upon themselves a goal and limitations to create something new, something that few others can make, and yet want to see.
You don't do any of that. You do something that anyone else could do. You spend a moment typing words into a machine, and at most 5 minutes deciding if what the machine made was good enough, if even that. Your "work" has no value, no benefit. But you share it anyway, with the same pride as a toddler shares a potty, because he didn't shit on the floor this time.
Nobody needs your 'help' with making slop. Nobody wants to see your piece of crap you had the machine belch forth. Even the other slopshitters don't really care about what you make, only about how their outputs compare to yours, about who can make the machine do the funniest lurch. That is why you feel alienated by the AI thread. You have no home, because you haven't earned the right to be anywhere. It is only through the flaws in this board that your existence is even noticed and despised, like vermin skulking beneath the floorboards. So take your filth, leave this place and do not return. Both your live and ours will be better for your passing, even if you can not restrain yourself from fulfilling a desire to create by claying with your stool.
