>>97342391Coruscant has been built up and over so much that nobody, and I mean nobody, knows what is down there. There are over five thousand levels, built up from the crust. Coruscant long ago got so deep that it started hitting the mantle. It's effectively the same as 40k's Terra, but Terra has been done for about 40000 years. Coruscant was already fifty levels (and some of these levels are skyscraper height and more, they're entire ecosystems) deep and a complete planet wide city a hundred thousand years before Ep4. It's only gotten more built up since. The entire world requires constant oxygen processors and atmospheric regeneration, satellites to direct heat, and millennia upon millennia of systems built over and atop each other designed to keep the planet livable and not a co2 ruined rock. It doesn't even have the capability to provide its own oxygen, hence super-oxygenating algae are strategically located across the surface.Even with all that, if weather regulation fucks up just a bit, then you get megastorms big enough to ruin a planetary shield and rip the atmosphere wide open for invasion.Coruscant is fucked up.
>>97347481that sounds so radical. a single turbolift can go far enough to get all the genres and themes of sci-fi done in one ride.

What the fuck is "Hope" in the context of the game's fiction? It's nothing. It's just an arbitrary restriction to make the game more "cinematic" while actually being way more game-y and asinine about what characters can do during play. Oh, and the initiative system is just Calvinball. Do whatever you want as often as you want. Who cares if the enemies never get a turn?

I've been playing games for almost two decades now and people who pump Charisma are consistently the most useless faggots in every party. And this remained true even during the very few times I have attempted it myself.I have no choice but to arrive at the conclusion that Charisma and every one of its iterations across every fucking game ever is just genuinely useless placebo dog shit. And when pressed to justify their investment charismafaggots always ramble about how good it is in real life as if that has any fucking bearing at all on TTRPGs.Besides, it's not that good in real life either. Actors and performers were considered on the same level as prostitutes in status for most of history.
>>97339772or just don't play classes centered on useless stas
>bonus to reaction rolls and attracting retainersOP i don't think you've been playing games for two decades. this has a direct, useful function in the game it's from. you're talking about some weird theatre group you're in.
>>97343314nobody used those rules because they're retardedthere's a reason they got removed from later editions
>>97343317no, they're what the charisma stat is for. as in, they're just the actual rules. you could play-act out a whole 'scene' and if your...troupe leader (???) decides you gave a grand performance then you get an extra torchbearer from the tavern....or you could follow the simple procedure in the game rules, lol.

>>97345064You misunderstand. I'm not saying this thread is made by some assblasted faggot. Although the glut of thinly veiled vidya threads in the last 24 hours is highly suspicious all the same. Possibly the guy from the meta-thread a couple days ago who kept insisting that everyone asking about systems or demanding that lazy OPs substantiate their vague questions with game with a game system was an unforgivable troll that was destroying /tg/.
>>97347258NTA have you considered that the other vidya threads might have been made by said assblasted faggot in response to his posts getting deleted? Also I'm not sure I see the logic in the latter half of your post where these two would be the same. Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Got to play Galactic Cruise tonightreally great game and very well designed, but my group did NOT like it, they like euros but it was 'too much'I think it really wasn't that bad but I guess I understood it better, it was all our first times playing but it was very clear I was going to win near the end.
>>97347088>really great game and very well designed,Die in a fire. There's almost no meaningful decisions to be made. At the start you can race people for the bonus cubes, between launches you sometimes have meaningful choices between the cruises you can draft, and the rest of the game is just checking boxes. Most of the boxes can be checked at 2 (or 3) different places but one of them is obviously correct for whatever else you're doing. And if you took just the meaningful decisions and packaged them into a (much) shorter game no one would buy it because it would still be a lackluster experience. The only thing Galactic Cruise has going for it is it's production value.
>>97344091Speaking on the current edition big box, I think it's a good package. You get expansions 1 and 2, which many basically consider part of the base game, so you would likely want to get them anyway. I never play without 1, even when testing a new expansion. 2 is also great. The minis are basically a bonus and let you add more variation in small steps as you like. Past big boxes had more regular size expansions, but I don't think this one loses out in comparison. What is a bit of a bummer is that you don't get more than six player colors. I really like purple and grey from my 2014(?) big box.
>>97346961they're different games. CC is more of a euro with deck building, and Imperium is more of a "card game". if you prefer Imperium's theme I would just go with that, there's a ton of content you won't get tired of it any time soon
>>97344088Trying to find a good building synergy every run gives it some good staying power. It also has some personality to it with the theming which makes it stand out from other abstracter games. Some more buildings wouldn't hurt but alledgedly an expansion for it is in the works. If your friend would enjoy light engine building with pulpy robot murder I'd say go for it.

>>97345555Think about the social standing, clothing they'd like to wear, their colors, the build and height. You can start with very banal things, for instance, Scarlet:- takes her nickname from the color of her hair, she is American with Irish ancestry and real name;- has a history of liking and making heavy metal music, she often wears black;- has lots of dots in Intimidate and has Staredown as its specialty, her eyes are a rare color;- she is a Toreador from the Volgirre bloodline, they can fleshcraft, she was always going to look unearthly beautiful with a perfect skin despite her chainsmoking habit, and despite her metalhead origins she had her piercings and tattoos removed before the embrace;- she has many dots her physical attributes and in Brawl, her body has little fat and she could pass as a kickboxer;- she is kind of a nouveau riche when you think about it, going from playing in front of a small but dedicated crowd of freaks, to smoking in the face of rich gen Y paypigsI based her looks on Monica Bellucci and Megan Fox because:- I like them- I think they have a mature appeal that matches "what I want from her"- Fox in particular has a mean stare and scowl- pronounced cheekbones are recognized as a trait dominant and/or tough people have in either sex, even if they weren't, a softer childish face couldn't fit my idea of herComment too long. >>97345567There's all sorts of things out there. Even the Loup aren't mere horrors that disdain the Blood for ancient slights, if you ever dream of the wolves, make sure you get you and yours away.Ancient dead in Egypt, more conventional ghosts, devils, angels that have a disconcerting closeness to those aforementioned devils, things that defy labels and haunt the dark. Remember meeting one nightmare in a corn field that was like... A person without a face. Standing there menacingly. Fey, or rather, Sidhe? I only knew one person who spoke about them. Teddy, actually. Short Gangrel, frenzies left him with more fur than skin. Apparently after consuming too much blood from inebriated folk down in New Orleans during Mardi Gras he met with a band of dancing frogs who let him into one of their safe havens. I could inquire for more details? Soon as we have our stay in Washington we'll probably just head south for Oregon where he's in hiding.I couldn't tell you if any of that was the truth, only that when he was kicked out, he had another frenzy episode and put on even more fur and fangs.
>>97345567Oh, lots of things are real and out there and could eat you, not sexually. A big one is spirits, mostly living in an otherworld of sorts. Werewolves have this trick where they can go through it to jump out of a puddle of water in your haven and eat you. And they do that shit incessantly if they decide you're a problem, like good God. I nearly got my face clawed clean off by a werewolf who managed to come out of a coffee cup a ghoul forgot to put a cap on. Most spirits don't like you, but they're usually aren't super likely to cause trouble for you. Unless you're like my coterie, in which case your night will sometimes look like the attached picture. That's a were-raven, by the way, those exist. There's also full-on wizards who throw fireballs and shit, were-sharks and were-cats and were-crocodiles, fairies... You'll get a good list of somewhat-major things soon enough, people love to brag about how they've met a mummy and lived. There is a lot of weird things out there, though. Things that either defy classification, or just are so strange that even though they're technically 'just' a fairy, it really feels like something else.Not-men pretending to be human on highways, luring in kind strangers. Living mountains, moving only when nobody's watching, or when you irritate them by coming near nature's holiest places. Covens of witches, occultists, wild mages and practicioners of esoteric arts, who do all sorts of strange things with vitae, and see you as a threat and a source of power. Psychics, who see things even I can't see with all my power, mirthful with their knowledge. Kine possessed by something foul and rotten and new and different every time, shambling about as if their eyelids aren't peeling off or their eyes aren't maggot-ridden. Birds of prey so vast to them you aren't even worth the time to swoop down, 'Kine' that seem entirely normal, up until you realize they're making sure to always face you, because they're flat as paper...
