real talk: does anybody think the demon Nale looks anywhere near cool?
for me he's just goofy
with his goat legs and the stumpy thorns and red complexion, like he's your alcoholic uncle Harold
even his aura is just funny little people
narratively I think he's supposed to be a badass high-level threat, but I don't get that vibe from him at all
>>
>>97231423
Can you seriously say that any character or creature in OotS looks cool (with the exception of characters that wear hoods or shit to conceal what they actually look like)? It's just artstyle + having to recognizably look like Nale.

How do you justify a "pest race" like goblins or rat people in your setting? Why wouldn't the dominant species make a concentrated effort to eradicate them if they were a problem?

>>

>>97231394
>have a three dot fetish (relatively valuable)
>own nothing else because lmfao poorfag Garou
>retarded sept doesn't treat you like a guest and demands you pay for hospitality with the only thing you own
That's a few dead or handicapped Garou waiting to happen. Assuming your pack can't pay anything else up or do a favor for them, it would certainly be enough to get mad over it.
>>
>>97231408
Well paying with a fetish is one way to lose it. I was wondering how common is it to lose one because either you were bullied by ranks above yours (or the sept’s chief, or anyone with a status). Or plain taken from you and since you’re weaker than them you can only rage in vain.

Klaives (so 4-5 dots) seem like the perfect target if the description is accurate. With youngsters coveting them to beat up elders, and elders judging that youngsters don’t deserve good shit. I was worried about a three dot fetish, if it would be as likely to be taken, or if below 4 the other garous just don’t bother.

It really irritates me that the books treat both Morgoth and Sauron as non-issue pushovers. The idea of them being doomed to lose and good winning is fine, but that's an omniscient cosmological view. The actual characters should consider them pretty terrifying bad guys, but Morgoth is literally laughed at by the other Valar and bullied and Sauron is punked on by a dog and Gandalf treats fighting him and destroying the ring as urgent as having afternoon tea. It saps any tension the narrative might have otherwise, and it's one thing the movies did better imo, especially with the Ring.

>movie: gandalf finds the ring, oh fuck oh shit frodo you need to get out of here, this is dangerous shit, even i shouldn't touch this, it's too powerful

>book: gandalf finds the ring, oh wow so interesting anyway pass me the pipeweed frodo, i'm gonna crash at your place for a year and chill out, the ring's no big deal it can wait, last time sauron had it he lost anyway (this is without exaggeration literally how it goes in the book)
They go on to take it to Tom Bombadil who acts like it's just a worthless piece of tin and laughs about it, then to Elrond who suggests maybe someone should destroy it and Glorfindel says it's not worth his time and he can't be bothered to so Frodo volunteers via mind control by Gandalf. Also without exaggeration what happens in the book. The writing is much worse than most people realize.

When last we met, we made G.E.T.S. (Generally Entertaining Team-built System). Thus far, it seems to be a fairly minimalist system.

Now, we shall make our first setting for this system.

If your proposed idea gets doubles, it is canonized. Any canon characters, worldbuilding, themes, et cetera can be modified (but not outright contradicted or discarded) by triples, quadruples, et cetera.

Let us continue.

All random chance is based on drawing from a pre-shuffled deck of cards
Modifying or reading this deck is possible for certain magic users (Including enemies)
This deck contains "Calamities" and "Miracles", the equivalent of crits
The deck has a joker, and when it is drawn the deck re-shuffles

(What each card means is in a look up table, many are situational.)
(None of them are "Wacky" and none are instantly obvious such as "The sky turns red".)

What level wizard/magic user would Prospero have been?

Considering the studded leather armor (he didn't know wtf a brigantine is) and troglodytes (for him are big and feral lizardmen instead of brutish hominids) yes, they tried to approximate some shit based on their knowledge. To be fair it wasn't like today with internet, i can totally see them at some point going "meh, good enough. Not worth going to do reaserach for this shit".
>>
>>97217579
Weirdly Prospero might be the closest thing to the typical DnD Wizard found in pre-20th century literature. He actually was just a normal guy that studied magic books and learned how to perform magic without any natural ability of his own, demon pacts, demon or deity parenthood of any kind. Until he was a fairly powerful sorcerer who cold bind fairies and demons to his service, summon storms, control the emotions of others, and turn invisible.

And when he tossed away his spell book and broke his foci he was a normal guy again.

Seems almost ever other depiction of a wizard in old stories turn out to be a demi god, a cambion, or a god in disguise. Except for maybe a couple examples in some Russian fairy tales.
>>
>>97223600
Russia had a very strong folk magic tradition long after it kind of faded out in western Europe. In that worldview, magic is just another "law of nature", just a secret one. Anyone could do magic if they learned how, and it's usually not even that complicated, it's just that the knowledge is really secret and exclusive. Hunters know hunting spells (zagovory) and don't share them with shepherds, who know shepherding spells, healers know healing spells, etc. Only specialized people know a broad spectrum of magic.

There are also demon powered witches and whatnot but basically magic is just knowing a secret magic incantation that hypothetically any child could do if they eavesdropped on a magician.

To reiterate: this not a uniquely Russian thing, it's just more prominent at a later era.
>>
Well, he quits at the end so I guess zero?

Why make an entire thread?
>Have enough content and questions to warrant it
>Hope to get enough criticism/feedback to gain the inspiration to finish it within the next day or so
>Main goal is just to talk about design philosophy with people
>The board is slow

Feel free to participate with questions or additions to any element of my system, or answers to questions that I ask. If you have your own design questions for TTRPGs, I'd be happy to give my 2 cents as well.

First topic presented for review will be my take on general actions and action economy which I think is moderately unique
