You can have a few to kick things off, but after that you need to go more for making things work together. If you don't stop accepting new random ideas fairly quickly, you never make a cohesive whole.
Constraints are more fun to worldbuild with anyway. You have to get creative to work around them to do what you want.

But then you might go too far and start stepping on the toes of atompunk, which is the era of the 1950s-60s defined by living under the looming specter of the bomb. It's its own form of retrofuturist sci-fi where the transistor was never invented, and so the world never truly goes digital.

The problem is the concept of Diesel Punk as it's been presented to the mainstream public focuses closer to WW2 because it's more of a recognized period of time. But when you look at the entire period of time it's supposed to represents it's 1910s–1950s. There is a lot that happened in that 40 year period.

> 10's and WW1. Mix of different possible enemies because the whole world went berserk. Gremany/Preussia, The Turks, Russia both Imperialist and Communist, France, Britain which includes Canada, Mexico, America, various parts of Latin America and Asia. That's not counting the different groups, Public and Secret, that were fighting in and across stare boarders. The group the Black Hand is considered to be what kicked of the war. Seriously, read about WW1 it's amazing how many countries and groups were fighting each other, it's a wealth of story material.

>The Roaring 20's. The Raise of Hollywood, Gangsters, Bootleging, and Federal Police fighting with local Police to see who got the glory of catching them.

> The 30's aka The Red Decade and the Great Depression. Economic Collapse, Government dominance, and the publics fascination with Socialism and Fascism (America's Wonder of Urban Planning, Stanlin's Soviet Union, Mussolini's Italy, and the Raise of Hitler's Germany). Drought and the Depression causing mass migration from Rural and City areas leading to cultural upheaval. Chinese, Japanese, Nazi, and Soviet espionage. Soviet back anarchist groups terrifying the public. The return of the KKK roaming rural areas. In the midst of this chaos and Insanity, The Birth PULP, RADIO, and COMIC HEROES! The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Spider, The Green Hornet, Secret Agent X-9, Sam Spade, Flash Gordon, Superman, Batman, Captain America, the list goes on and on. Capable men of means standing up for good and battling the corrupt.

>The problem is the concept of Diesel Punk as it's been presented to the mainstream public focuses closer to WW2 because it's more of a recognized period of time.

>Complaining that an era containing the most famous war of all time is thematically dominated by that war in its aesthetic
I get what you're going for, and I love to see more of the era represented (this is where decopunk shines), but it's kinda hard to ignore.
>>
>>97256237
>>97256309
This is acknowledged within the aesthetic. There are two acknowledged subdivisions of dieselpunk, with World War 2 as the central divide.
>"Piecraftian" dieselpunk is during/post-WW2
>"Ottensian" dieselpunk is pre-WW2
>>
>>97256237
>1940's WW2 and the aftermath. The culmination of the insanity reaching boiling point in the form of another World War. From Paris to island beachs in the Pacific people must take up arms again. Britain and France need Allies to defend against the Axis, but who are the Allies and who are the Axis? America is hesitant to join the war effort, China is besieged by Japan, Russia has a treaty with German, Japan is in a uneasy partnership with Germany, and Mexico is receiving messages from Germany promising them American land if they join the Axis. Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and Hilter Marching on the USSR makes everything clear. The teams have been determined and war is in full swing. Rationing at home for the boys abroad, Women entering the work place, and everyone making sure that everyone is doing their part, aka TURN OUT THAT LIGHT. Espionage between enemy and ally and ally and ally ramps up to discover everyone's secrets. After never-ending combat 2 bombs send a loud roar over the nation of Japan with fire and force shaking the earth and blinding the sky. They announce the end of the war and the new age of man, the Atomic Age.

The point is there was so much going on in that time, for example the birth of aviation combat or sea Battles of WW1 or the formation of the studio system in Hollywood. If the only thing you know is the very end, Nazi spies for atomic secrets, you aren't properly using the setting. If you are really interested in things that have to do with Deisel Punk you need to do you research. There's a wealth of cool things waiting to be discovered by you and shown to the modern world. Trapping yourself in what has been presented to a mainstream audience since the late 80's is not going to do anything.

Thank you for reading.

jank queue matchmaker is disturbingly accurate
it will figure out if you're on a starter deck and put you against starter decks, that's easy
but it will put pure meme decks against pure meme decks
it will put slightly sweaty "this deck runs meta cards like badgermole cub but is still retarded" decks against the same

downside is a LOT of strange mirror matches
ex green ugin ramp will somehow match against green ugin ramp and neither player can exile anything

I genuinely wonder, is this the worst card in Magic history?
>>

I'd rather play something that sacs lands for an actual benefit.
>>
>>97254176
It's one of the worst creatures for sure. However there are still worse cards because wood elemental has power and toughness and can theoretically help you win a game. Cards like Break Open and Mudhole are worse since they effectively do nothing.
>>
>>97256088
I can see Mudhole being a narrow gravehate card against some land-recursion decks like the ones that loop Wasteland or Glacial Chasm. It's not the *most* effective at this but I can see it being useful at its role.

But yeah, Break Open is worse. At no point would you actually ever want to do this, face-down creatures WANT to be turned up.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

I keep seeing stuff like this and never actually know what theyre talking about.

Its a completed game, the rules got made finalized and released for free. I dont get it, is it because it didnt beat warhammer? The franchise that has 30 years world of books, videogames, model ranges, rulesets and fanbases that grew up with it? Come on man. Play somethinbg other than Warhammer, theres a lot out there like TC and its such a shame that everything just defaults back to comparisons to them.
>>
>>97256274
No it's because they released nothing besides a rushed rulebook, a bunch of images, and broken, low quality models. It's just the same old thing when a new company has a golden opportunity in their hands, then aggressively shit their pants and throw it away that keeps happening for some reason.
Also, notice at no point I've made any mention of 40k and yet you still brought it up for some reason. It sounds like you're the one with a chip on your shoulder here.

Obligatory new thread update on the Companion.

We've managed to push the campaign out before the new year, luckily most errors are just things that are supposed to update live, but require a reload, so we'll be able to very quickly get to work on our next major app update: Play Mode.

Essentially our plan is a digital tracker to help keep things sorted while playing a game
> Track whats been activated (ie, single-use items, CONSUMABLE equipment, TOUGH keyword)
> View your active warband with all the fluff (campaigns, buttons to add stuff, empty selections) removed
> Track victory conditions and glorious deeds
> Post-game helper to let you quickly gain Glory, gain ex/skills/injuries/etc

If there's anything else that seems fitting for this feature - feel free to let me know.
>>
>>97256313
It sounds less like theyre throwing it away and rather you wanting it to die because it wasnt a 10/10. I hate this mentality anon, I want more tabletop settings and games, we arent going to get that when people piss and shit as soon as one gains traction but isnt done to a standards worthy of prestige.

Not even saying there wasnt problems, but holy shit is it blown out of proportion.
>liked seeing everyone making their own models and getting creative, they also found uses for those 3rd party STLs that you would otherwise never have a use for
>NO the official STL prints were from a bad distrubutor fuck this game and fuck the developers and their shitty rushed rules that took 3 years, it shouldve took 10 like a real game
This shit is depressing, Im not even defending the bad stuff, but jesus christ tabletop as a medium is fucked because of shit like this. Seems people just want to buy merch, not make something themselves for a game.

Aces can can comeback once they stop making retarded otk decks that dedigi or remove anything left on the field.
At this point I wonder why they bothered making Aces at all.
>>
>>97255565
the same way as any other digimon?
as per the effect, you trash the top x cards of a stack.
"<De-Digivolve> is a keyword effect where the player declares a number from 1 up to the number specified in the effect, then the declared number of cards are trashed from the chosen stack(s) of cards starting with the top card. This is shown on cards using text such as <De-Digivolve 1>"
I don't understand the confusion would be.
they don't even need to be different levels, its just a digimon card that is two digimon that it changes between based on criteria being met or not

>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

Do you need them without boxes and colonies marked?
>>
>>97252996
Nah! I'm good, marking the territories isn't that long (outside of France's, which is just humongous), and I'm not sure which order of putting stuff is the best for it to come out looking good, this is very much a prototype. I'm glad at least I got a tiny bit of the USA's in there, I didn't even realize that. I tried doing the same with the full map, but Paint 3d couldn't handle the sizes involved.
Very rough estimate, but the hexes came at about 80 miles across from what I could eyeball.
What I'm thinking, for the "hexcrawl" version, would be that you build a small company, start in a city, and have a few options to generate job opportunities, trade mission requested, escort missions, reinforcement, labour employment, exploration, etc. A bit like, in Sunless Sea, when you are in Fallen London, so if you are in Fallen Paris you can check with the Societe if they have some missions for you. You generate a target location (figuring how to do this the best is what's bugging me now) and must reach it. Each hex you have to travel through would be a game map (obviously, not a 1:1 translation, but represent that one dangerous situation your Expedition got into during that week of travel). These games would set you more against NPCs. Probably some rules to speed up travel inside your frontiers, on roads or rivers, or through Airship or on boats.
I've already figured out a bit of an event system to make the travel games a bit more chaotic.
Will post more on this as soon as I feel it has enough structure to make sense.

This reminds me we still need to add a lot of names to the geographic locations.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

To be fair, Elathain and Cyreni are just alternate Soulrender and Tidecaster sculpts, respectively. Heavy Namarti are probably the best idea in the image. I'd like a kit with an Embailor and a choice of of 2 or 3 sea critter options. They could really make it a flexible kit and pad out warscrolls if the Embailor could be paired with the critters to make a selection of units and the leftover options become a Beast unit.
Example: Kit includes Embailor, 1 Octopus on 60mm base, 2 Barracudas on small cav bases, and 3 swarms of fish like Nurglings. This would net 6 warscrolls out of a single box if they made 1 warscroll for each Embailor pairing and lone beast unit. Embailor+ Octo/Barracuda/Swarms, Beast Unit Octo/Barracuda/Swarms.
