Linghao is relatively good at survival, or at least he's good at some parts of survival. He can hunt down beasts, and survive temperature shifts. Eating beasts could trigger unwanted evolutions tho, so he prefers bringing food from home in his storage treasure to have a safe alteranative instead in case he finds nothing beneficial. He likes exploring, be it nature or otherwise, so he at least is used to it even if not as good as someone that lives like that.
I just realized his insight would make him surprisingly good at survival, because having instinctual knowledge of evolution means knowing what defense mechanisms creatures evolved, like poison and such. Insights are supposed to grow, so he's not perfect at it yet, and he would rather not risk it for now, so he doesn't use it unless he really wants something for cultivation purposes.

I'm excited to see where Haoran's relationship with her father develops. I think Haoran is in a prime position to develop a heart demon of sorts. She has a pretty nasty inferiority complex and bouts of paranoia that i think could worsen depending on how the expedition in the ghost lands go. Maybe some evil fucking wizard shenanigans? She already has some pretty scathing critiques of the Xun clan and the greater cultivation world. I would like for her to come out of these trials better for it, but i guess we'll see where it goes. I also think her cultivation could have some interesting applications if she is able to gain some more Natural Insight.

>>97226244
Haoran hasn't gotten out that much in regards to the untamed wilderness shes much more of a pavilion princess. Any of her survival knowledge is untested and theoretical.

If I get you, I tried that with this RYOA. The player is prompted to invent meanings for random combinations of words.
>>
>>97227090
Not quite...I mean CYOAs that have set options, but those options have unexpected interactions that lead to new possibilities.

CYOA 1 (non-emergent)
You can pick 2 between fire mastery, ice mastery, electric mastery, wind mastery, or sword mastery.
Sure, you can imagine what some combinations would look like - a windy acrobat swordsperson using their magic for extra mobility seems fun, but the options don't really "talk" to each other much. They're almost entirely just isolated islands of coolness. Most possible builds are just "pick the stuff that you like", and there's almost no deeper considerations. You can double, triple, or quadruple the number of options, but the feel of the CYOA remains the same.

CYOA 2 (emergent?)
I'm in a writer's block trying to figure out how to achieve this within the bounds of my own CYOA, so giving concrete examples is hard. But imagine various options with detailed descriptions and limitations. Option A has a glaring, terrible drawback, but a careful reading of option B suggests that it could enhance option C in a way that allows them both together to nullify the drawback of option A, making it viable. And the interaction between B and C is so obscure and specific that there's no way the author could have possibly predicted it.

CYOAs like that.
>>
>>97227143
Okay, I agree CYOA 2 is broadly a good ideal to have. Although it takes a lot of skill and effort for the author to phrase options so that there's little ambiguity even with combinations that the author didn't think of. Ambiguity in wording is definitely a bigger problem there than usual.

The /btg/ is dead! Long live the /btg/!

I've come to realize the follow of thinking in terms of the single element. Especially for myself where I am going for a more sci-fi/fantasy bent where the Humans have to utilize a more sciency approach to what little magic they can use which is all based around fire/heat since Humans have a natural affinity for.

Magic powered jets to blast high pressure wind and debris, super heated jets of steam to broil enemies, laser guided lightning strikes, metallic bits launched with crushing force with magnetic force.

cut the gates reasonably close with your side cutter and then just give it a little scrape with the edge of your knife until it's smooth. for tricky tight spots you can use a needle file.

Thankfully, Specialists don't have blanket trading post access, and the Tek-Hunter gear list is somewhat more limited than the regular Van Saar specialist one, so you're not getting nine dudes with plasma guns off the bat, thankfully.
>>
>>97226994
They aren't Gangers that promoted to Specialists, their profile is just Specialist from the start. And that profile includes being able to get weapons from the TP with no restrictions on weapon class. So sure you won't have 8 Plasma Guns at gang creation, but you could give all of them whatever Special/Heavy weapons you can afford from the TP from the first visit. On top of that they also have the VS Tech skills as Secondary. All this for just 10 creds more than a standard VS Ganger. Their roster entry is ridiculous.

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.
>>
As always thank you for your work in these trying times Net0. I hope your whale hunting has been going well? I'm going to try to see if I can finish my book nearish to the end of the week in time for my initiation. Should be nice to be in Europe again, though Normandy isn't fully my favorite. Hopefully, I can get some insight to impress upon the lads with my book.
Though, I'm surprised there's no thread question but then again I assume there's probably not much need given we're going a bit slow. Thanks regardless.

Do we really need anything more than that? Most people are going to use either the Gold Box, From the Ashes, or The Adventure Begins Gazeteers for Greyhawk anyway, completely throwing out the 5.5e blurb.

Greyhawk isn't like other settings. It's canon outside of official sources like the gazetteers, modules, or novels is meant to be purely homebrewed. If you want any further canon, check places like canonfire as other Anons said, the lore is mainly community made.Or you could just make shit up as you go along at your table.

It's meant to be a worldbuilding framework. Worldbuilding on training wheels if you will, Gary didn't even want to publish it as a setting, he wanted people to make up their own. Which is kind of what every GM that plays in Greyhawk does.

I had a friend ask me today if Greyhawk was a grimdark setting. Now, at my table it's not, I prefer the nobledark approach, but there's no doubt someone who plays a grimdark Greyhawk in the From The Ashes era.

>4e existing.
Your disproof of market saturation effects required for this to indicate what your argument needs it to?

>Yeah and they didn't even after 4e failed so this was just a load of shit.
But I didn't say 4e was a failure, it just didn't have as much retention as the previous edition's OGL frenzy, as demonstrated by its own tail end being eclipsed by a rather direct substitute for the edition you're insisting faile.d

>I notice you say "TTRPG communities" and not "playing games", nogames.
Individual campaigns are far too sensitive to the individuals participating for isolated personal anecdotes to predict much, especially with how time-consuming WotC D&D tends to be limiting breadth of participation, making comparison of numerous playgroups rather important.

>Unless of course, you're 5e then apparently they rake in the big bux.
5e's big bux are overwhelmingly rolling-total userbase, not supplements. The relatively low sales of modules and setting-specific material is clear supporting evidence for my position that TTRPG player retention is troublesome because it causes them to ignore new products in favor of continuing their current campaigns.

"Disproof" wew we're deep in ESL territory.
Anyways the burden of proof is on you, not me.

>But I didn't say 4e was a failure
4e was infact a failure.

>Individual campaigns are far too sensitive to the individuals participating for isolated personal anecdotes to predict much, especially with how time-consuming WotC D&D tends to be limiting breadth of participation, making comparison of numerous playgroups rather important.
tl;dr "I am a nogames but I want to pretend my opinions matter"
Newsflash: They don't. You're probably just seething that you got kicked out of a group.

>5e's big bux are overwhelmingly rolling-total userbase, not supplements.

>And the core rulebooks of 3.5 sold [numbers]
Like I said we don't trust you with those anymore after the mathematic catastrophe you just demonstrated where you thought 100k book sales would translate to "hundreds of millions".
Besides, Ben Riggs already proved you wrong. 3.5e itself didn't even sell 1m, you can just barely get 1m if you include LIFETIME sales of 3e and 3.5e.
You'll cry when you google this and realize I'm 100% right again and reality still doesn't align with your delusions.

>GURPS never top-fi-
Doesn't matter, you said discourse is what you're using as a measurement. GURPS has had persistent discourse since 4th came out, which was before 3.5e. It is therefore the most successful ttrpg ever according to you.
Wanna try shifting the goalposts again?
>>
>>97226949
>Anyways the burden of proof is on you, not me.
"3.5 is a garbage failure and 5e is the best system ever" is an extraordinary claim you have offered very little and poor evidence for, so the primary burden rests on you.

>tl;dr "I am a nogames but I want to pretend my opinions matter"
The point is literally that my personal opinion means little, and thus I focus on what I see from others.

>Which is why WOTC dropped it 5 years in and put up a new... Oh they didn't?
Because the total of users kept rolling.

>They just keep printing new modules and making bank through insane player retention?
No, modules and setting-specific material sales pale in comparison to setting-agnostic supplements, and the core rulebooks remaining strong "evergreen" sales only occurs when you have an ongoing intake of users that would only reflect retention if supplements continue growing considerably.

Something I can think of that you could justify tracking torches (how many you have and how long they last) would be something like what you see in Alone in the Dark: Illumination https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLogNWdLsq4 [Embed] The game itself is clearly crap but the idea of foes being weaken by light stuck with me since hearing about his game. I would make the area windy or have a torrent downpour so the torches last only for a very short time and because they have so few torches the player would have to pick how and when they fight. This would only be in one or two area as gimmick stuff only really works if done very rarely.

Why is it called Age of Sigmar anyway? It'd be like calling the Victorian Age the Hawaiian Age or something.

Sigmar is the weakest god in the setting and his faction is almost entirely irrelevant. If anything it's the Age of Nagash ft. Stormcasts with special guest appearances by Elves and Chaos. Sigmar barely even features in anything at all aside from short stories with black stormcast protags of ambiguous gender talking about how pathetic he is and how much they hate working for him.

Ask the general, the place filled with lots of people who would know, the kind of place that exists to trap these inane faggot threads.

Brand recognition to hook in ex-WFB players. Age of Chaos would be too generic, Age of Nagash would be less recognizable since Sigmar's a way better known character. Warhammer: Stormcast probably would've worked but again brand recognition.

Nagash is a cool guy

if siggy diggy was relevant it would ruin the woke ritual humiliation the game's story is supposed to be

Why do you care? AoS doesn't have any good video games, and you don't play tabletop- no TWW fan ever has picked up a mini.
