IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

No argument here. The British did use an armored train during the Anglo-Egyptian war but that's already what directly inspires a lot of the traction engine (Also the Steam Sappers of one of the Ashante Expeditions) so giving them another armored vehicle would be redundant.

Alright, if I keep it in the USA book, should I make it something where the carts you get are random (with perhaps, some options keyed in, for example the military one could be Federal Leader only...), or where you purchase each one?
I'm thinking of putting a Valuable (x) rule on some Carts, like the Deepfolk's buildings, and you would score a percentage (or multiple) of that amount if you manage to get that Cart off the map on the 3rd, 4th, 5th turn for example.

My vote would be for random if you want to use them for economy (maybe doing that thing where you get positive silver as long as they stay alive like with the Investor) but with the option to buy specific ones as normal units if you just want troop transport ability or other such

Ranger: keep to themselves, maybe open relationships with friendly mutants, make clear to all the others humanity is here to stay but not in a fascistic manner.
Brotherhood: just like in canon, except even more vindicated because most mutants aren't human at all, but they have to be careful because heavy weapons are common and I doubt power armor can survive being crumpled by a mace-wielding elephant man.

On another note, I've never played Fistful of TOWs so I can't speak towards the mechanics, but I always impressed with how long and dense it is. That rulebook is the size of a university textbook, it's insane.

I meant to watch it this morning, but I had appointments switched around and only just finished watching it a few minutes ago.
The inclusion of a vicious Pomeranian made me chuckle.

Mork Borg is super swingy in my experience, but I don't hate that about it. It let's you have funny moments of High/Low rolls that can change your fate completely.
I like it because it isn't super tightly balanced, it's just fun.

There’s not the same kind of competitor to WoTC that once existed no. The ttrpg space has changed a lot though. Politics have changed a lot. But what WoD offered was a game focused more on storytelling than action and number crunching. There are plenty of games like that. Some of which can involve vampires or whatever the fuck. Onyx path still exists and they’re essentially White Wolf but the popularity has waned as far as I can tell. There’s some weird stuff with Paradox involved in the copyrights.

Personally I tried to get a group together for Werewolf. I did what the people on here said to do with my 5e group. I said we either play Werewolf or nothing. They chose to have a BG3 night instead. Which I skipped because I’ve played more than enough of that game. The group is getting back together for an Eberron game DM’d by someone else. I got them to try Genesis at least. People just don’t seem to care about WoD anymore, not sure why.

You can get a physical copy of v20 for relatively cheap if you're fine with black and white, and that book has fucking EVERYTHING in it. If people want to play WoD, they are drowning in options.

I have some questions and a premise for a thread.

Having divergences in the story would obviously be critical, like if Moss had actually killed Anton, for it to be fun, but other than just plain ole' rolling dice how would a game where an individual plays as Anton Chigurh, another plays as Lewellyn Moss, another plays as Carson/The Sheriff, etc etc work?

It would work, but only if you wanted to have a Chigurh style villain. Players would also eventually memorize the cards, although its not like anyone would realistically play this game enough for that to happen. Youd want it to be a pretty thick deck either way.

I think the next revival movement in a sinilar vein to the OSR is going to be 3rd edition focussed. I think that granular, complex build focussed market isnt really served by 5e or pathfinder truly, and theres empty space in the market/community.

Tieflings are core rulebook playable at LA +1 (granted, in the Monster Manual rather than PHB, but given the OTHER shit that gets LA in there...), and actually go back to the TSR days. Which had much weirder shit treated as "normal" races in the supplements than 3.X ever dared to, like slime-people who's personalities come from the corpses they grew in. The enby sparkle tieflings are from a change in the surrounding culture's treatment of things, not any accretion of options, having previously been the mainstay of lazy "edgy" characters.

Because of PF and the SRD, you don't need to retroclone the core rules like the OSR guys did for out of print material. What the OSR did really well and why I'm still fond of it was focus on making good modules that a DM could drop in.
