>Did I fuck up? Reading stuff online it seems high elves are a bit shit but good enough for casual games?

Stop reading online discussions about game balance or meta. Build the army you want to proudly field and play. Dont care about winrates or optimal stuff. You don't want to end up as the guy bringing unpainted 3Dprinted models of what is currently mathematically the most optimal unit to a game of toy soldiers.
>>
>>97864701
Yeah it seems the sea guard aren't super efficient but I like the models and it fits the theme I'm going for so I want to use them
Hopefully they aren't so bad that I start resenting them
>>
>>97864717
Who knows maybe they will be the best unit in the next game. Highly possible that elves in general will get a rework if they add the so much rumoured dark elves.

The elves have the problem of paying elite cost for pretty squishy units that don't hit particularly hard. The higher initiative don't really do much. Lothern seaguard are pretty good though. I like the naval discpiple rule.

Technically, there is no upper limit to the number of people that could participate in a Westmarches campaign.

I was around 11 years ago for the launch of 5e and the sentiment was extremely positive. It was praised for how much control it game DMs over the game. It was seen as a fantastic recovery from 4e moving away from mechanical crunch to focus on the roleplaying. 11 years later and you see the exact opposite sentiment. If you go sleuthing for discussions when it released you will see what I mean, it was positively received and people were singing its strengths. Now when you go look at 5e discussion you find people burning its strengths at the stake like a witch. People complaining about how hard it is on DMs, lacking in concise rulings for things, a lack of crunch they crave. I'm curious why the pendulum swung the other way. The few reasons I come up with are as follows.
-the RPG space has welcomed a lot more people into the hobby and the newcomers dislike it
-people playing the game for a decade have come around to it and settled on things they dislike
-the game isn't appreciated for what it's always been good at and people are playing it differently than how it was meant to be played
-the people who have always disliked it are more vocal now and are gaining influence in the RPG space
There's a lot of angles to discuss this and come around to understanding it. I'm curious what is the most likely answer to the changing sentiment. My best guess is that since 5e had come out, a lot of other systems have launched, a rising tide raises all boats so to speak, and a lot of newcomers have tried out other systems and now consider some other system their defacto best system, and have since begun to compare 5th edition unfavorably to what they prefer best.

>I was around 11 years ago for the launch of 5e and the sentiment was extremely positive.
You had no frame of reference and you were fed the opinions of a handful of retards. You're literally incapable to speak of "the sentiment". You're unironically mentally stunted for not realizing this yourself.

While 5e was considered better than 4e, it was still considered garbage by wide swathes of the existing fanbase at the time, and it still is.

There was no pendulum swing, you just got old enough to start interacting with a meaningful number of adults with experience on what they speak of.

You fucking idiot.

How are dreadnought limbs with two guns different from legion tank sponsons with two guns? Why should one machine benefit from the operator but the other shouldn't? How is a bike mounted bolt weapon different from a tank mounted one for the purpose of the IF trait?
>It's about a marine sitting on a speeding bike somehow being less visible within short distances than other legions.
And I explained great many ways how that can be, but you ignored it all to have something to complain about. Same vehicles can be used differently depending on the branch using it. A recon unit will use their vehicles differently from an armoured unit, even if they're the same vehicle. Might as well complain how it doesn't make sense that recon squad magically make their dedicated transport able to sneak around when tactical squads cannot.
>Outside of Eldar cloaking shenanigans there isn't anything that accurately describes anything close to that.
Even IG has access to all sorts of camo options. Would be odd if legions didn't.
>too large to be affect by an individual's talents.
So why aren't Legion and Army tanks of the same type identical? Why was Marine crew an update for some tanks in the past? Besides, traits don't reflect "individual talent" but a broad, legion wide doctrine. In some traits they even mention modifications to equipment, because it reflects how the legions puts emphasis on a certain form of warfare and focuses on it down to making their equipment adhere to it. It's why, say, Navy and Air Force can have the same fighter, but with different variations and use them differently to suit their needs and forms of combat. Thus the two are not identical due to organizational differences.

Except that’s not the definition of fascism. Umberto Eco was an enemy of fascism, letting him choose the definition of fascism is like going to Ayn Rand for a definition of Socialism.

The actual definition of fascism, as defined by the fascists themselves in the Doctrine of Fascism, is a totalitarian, imperialist, corporatist state. The Imperium is not corporatist (in the original sense of the word), because there’s not nearly enough coordination between the state and private interests and labor groups. It’s not totalitarian (in the fascist sense of the word of the state encompassing all aspects of life) because it literally can’t be, it’s too decentralized, almost all of the sub-organizations making up the Imperium are largely autonomous. The only definition it does fulfill is being imperialist.
>>
>>97856194
>fascist empire
Anon I have bad news: The Imperium is a neo-feudalist theocratic oligarchy. The Emperor has been in a coma for 10,000 years. He doesn't really rule anything.
>>
>UM THAT'S NOT HECKING REAL FASCISM, REAL FASCISM HAS NEVER BEEN TRIED

>>
>>97864968
The Imperium is neither totalitarian (by fascism’s own definition of totalitarianism) nor corporatist (by the original definition).

The beast traits includes any traits that have beast or animal in them (Holy Beast, Beastkin etc), but Shaman and TS want exactly those traits.
So if there was a trait called "Tall Shaman", they would exclude that but want to include "Tall Beast"

Sea Animal would probably have been better translated as Aquatic Mammal for the card game's purposes

giant rats are unironically the perfect starter enemy and I will die on this hill. they're low stakes but not zero stakes. they establish tone and provide environmental storytelling. they're mechanically flexible and can cause mayhem with status effects. they humble players and scale weirdly well (one rat is a nuisance, a million rats is psychological warfare). also, theyre' relatable. everyone understands "giant rat," no lore dump required. the giant rat is simple, versatile, humbling, eternal.

/tg/ products are fairly unique in that it's actually pretty simple to make them these days, with a plethora of products to assist in making and playtesting your game. Making your own games helps understand why games are made the way they are, as well as being fun to do.

>What you should post
Ideas for games, games you're currently making, updates to your own games in broad strokes, and any homebrewing for existing products that don't get much attention. Discussion about the above is welcome. Post good, be good, and look over others products, they care if someone looks more than anything.

trying to think of some dark fantasy factions that could tie into a morally fucked world and interact with the campaign and player characters naturally. like i'm thinking there's a faction of Knights: The Holy Inquest who are sent out by the Queen and the Church to supress magic in all its forms. burning down villages that are said to be practicing heresy or harbouring a mage, finding and destroying magic items, imposing the will of the Temple like thought police.

i think it'd be interesting if when finding a magic item, it becomes a blessing and a curse. sure, you found a shiny +1 sword that'll help a lot in future battles. but now you have to keep it a secret or the Inquest will come hunting for you
