to be fair, using Pathfinder/D&D for your improv storytelling sessions is kind of clever.
>>
>>97153793
you know whats insane? every other member of critical role has been getting massively overpaid for playing d&d for a living, for years. and they still need things explained to them like it is their very first session ever playing. it drives me insane and its why i can never watch them. they want to be drama kids so bad but even still, they have to bog down every single episode with rule explanations, for the most simple roleplaying system ever. THAT THEY GET PAID MILLIONS TO PLAY, FULL TIME, AS A JOB. how does it happen? how? i mean they must legitimately be sub 80 IQ.
>>
>>97228496
I never managed to watch more than two minutes of critical role because the amount of faggotry was way too much for me but he genuinely seems like an interesting dude and is pretty nice to listen to. I guess that's how things are sometimes.
>>
>>97248051
this is true all across YouTube, in a way.

>listening to Mark Kermode, film critic, on the radio
>he researched, he watched the film, he took notes
>watching RedLetterMedia, film reviewers, on YouTube
>"You went to the bathroom at that point, but..."

people who didn't even watch the entirety of a film are telling me the film sucks. and this is their job, on this nu internet. wtf.

I'm sorry I hurted your fee fees for saying RT sucks ass (true btw), but other than that admittedly harsh opinion nothing in my posts was hostile or angry enough to be considered a rant, I merely stated facts. Now for a little recap of our trip to Rome and back. As Scarlet predicted, me and Princess Charming went shopping first thing in the evening. We had to rush from the airport in Fiumicino to piazza di Spagna and via dei Condotti to raid the boutiques before they would close early as scheduled on St. Stephen's Day. That felt like the longest hour of my unlife. Excruciating.

We dressed closer to what we do in autumn than during mom's ideal winters. My girlfriend had a tiny pearl mink jacket over a pale brown cashemere top with a long, much darker leather skirt with matching boots, that bottom half drove me crazy. I wore a deep purple and white mulberry silk áo dài with a floreal theme I bought in Vietnam, a silver fox stole and silver high heels.

Ordinarily we would have just rented a Huracán for the whole night, but this emergency called for a couple of Maseratis too. This is not our first race against the clock, Boy Toy and Princess Charming developed a strategy for such a situation: bring our most fashion-savy women and men among our staff, and deploy one in each boutique to scout ahead and take pictures.
This time, we bought footwear, makeup, perfume, bags, glasses, jewels, all kinds of accessories and the mandatory post-Christmas gifts, but only a "modest" amount of clothing.

Unfortunately for the staff members who had never set foot in Italy before, rather than a cultural trip down the Eternal City - hideously packed with visitors, but more so than your average night - this was more of a trip down memory lane.
I remember when we first met, like it was yesterday:
"Oh, a fellow Cainite? Good evening! Is this your domain? The security guard didn't seem to think I was... 'bounceable' enough."
I was such a brat.

This meant our other obligatory stop was Princess Charming's club, the heart of her domain, away from the tourist traps and where she gathers, in her own words, "the best of the nightlife", or the movida as they call it here like they do in Spain.
>>
>>97248146
Thank you my dear, I'll take it from here. So what does my humble abode do? Anything I want it to: restaurant, lounge bar, theater, art gallery, lesbian SM club, you name it.

The staff could finally relax from their bag-carrying duties, then something happened.

"What a coincidence."

She came.

"You didn't think of leaving House Venus for good, did you my loves?", she hissed.

The Venus in Furs herself, at the height of her power with the Amur leopard coat and a groveling Prince on a leash for a date in Rome.

This is far from the first time she shows up at our club uninvited, but I've never been so offended in my whole existence.

So D&D players in the old days were coming into it from fantasy novels, right?

It's just mad to think: the majority of new players today probably haven't even read The Lord of the Rings. They've watched movies and played video games.
>>
>>97247920
It makes even less sense when you understand that quests used to be a part of this board.
Imagine banning people from actually playing games that were played just like D&D.

Out on Patrol Edition

>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

Have a holiday Revenant. This one is a test unit to see how assembly and painting works for something like this. I drilled a hole in the mouth to make a rictus howl and melted the face down with acetone, once it sets it should hopefully look mask-like. After that I'll need to firm up the crest and maybe add something on the back if I feel like it.
>>
For some reason, this piece fits so well in the setting, but I have no idea what it could be exactly...
>>
I've added the updated version of the neomughal.
Changes are

>Words of Wisdom trait
Clarified that the roll needed is leadership.

>Maharata
Reduced LD to 4 and its special action needing 2LD

>Ascetic
Reduced its cost to 10. It barely does anything.

>Lemurian Sharpshooter
Modified "Seventhfold Sharpshooter": Secretly note down an Enemy or Hostile model, a hex and publicly note an upcoming turn. If at any point in the noted turn the noted model enters the noted Hex, interrupt its activation, and the “Lemurian Sharpshooter” resolves as many ranged shots as it has available (if it has 4
shots, do 4 attacks; if it has 2 shots, do 2 attacks; if it has to reload, nothing happens). The “lemurian sharpshooter” still needs to be within its range to do so.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.

I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsing

So I started thinking.
For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?

Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup?

There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat?

What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory?

What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.

The idea is cool, in the same way motion controls are.
They COULD actually improve a real life skill, but that means at least minor physical exertion. Given the mindset of most people in Tabaletop games, it's going to fail.

If I wanted to improve myself I wouldn't be playing a tabletop game. They are leisure. And trying to sneak in actual effort, be it ever so trivial, will result in disappointment.

I know everyone here is gigachad, but be honest for a second and look at the average tabletop gamer. If they had even the slightest will to change they would've long ago.

Critical failure is only a thing in attack rolls in n 3.5. Not an only that but for skills rolls that do not happen under duress you could always take 10 or even 20 depending on the situation.
tl;dr You are just parroting shit you saw on reddit like a LLM. You aren't just retard, you luck the basis of intelligence altogether.
>>
>>97248216
>Critical failure is only a thing in attack rolls
Which is also a big issue since I've never met a target shooter who will miss a point blank shot 5% of the time.
But the issue is that it's hard to even get a +9 in 3.5e on things you're good at unless you fully minmax for it.

It's only really convincing point is that Comstar had the ability to listen in on every interstellar communication made, and probably most of the planetary communications that they'd want to listen in on. When you're a scientist developing weapons technology, you'd really want to communicate with your higher ups what you're making progress on and how well your tech works. At any point, Comstar could not only learn what's being made, but it seems like they also had the ability to mess with the development of the technology itself like they did in later eras. It might not even be the Inner Sphere not being able to somehow manufacture an AMS system, it might be Comstar messing with detection software so that when it's tested in front of the military big wigs, it underperforms horribly. Said military big wigs would then say that it's not worth the investment and then cut funding on further development. It's not that Comstar would assassinate smart people, which is still a very real possibility, but Comstar had the ability to modify anything they could get their hands on and their reach was absurdly long and coordinated.
>>
Any way you slice it the missile tech breaks down if you think about it much. Thunderbolts and Arrow IV as depicted are 70s tech at the latest. The cluster table is evidence of heavy ECM, except it's still in effect when shooting at the cheapest flatbed trucks and civilian ground cars.

It's mostly after the fact justification as to why really basic tech was invented really, really late.
