Why do DMs love putting paladins into 'you must fall' scenarios?

Why don't paladin players act like paladins? There's no danger of falling if you do

Same reason they put regular characters into "you must die" scenarios. Because without the actual threat consequences, there is nothing to be gained

>>
>>97200414
There are no dedicated joint ops rules in it.
The book has the lore section, the two teams, and a section dedicated to a campaign system. The latter can be used for a PvE campaign, but it's not really written for it.
>>
>>97200984
is the campaign system any good? or just again 5 missions in a mission tree and thats called a campaign?

Louie's adventures take place maybe a smidge before the actual Lodoss adventure starts. And also it takes place in the northern part of the Alecrast continent. Following the novels, Louie and the gang go all over the contient, and in "Season 3" of the novels, second volume, it takes Louie's gang to Lodoss Island. As far as the Lodoss story is concerned, it takes place (in terms of the OVA), between episodes 8 and 9. In terms of the Novels, it's after the first novel "The Grey Witch"

>>97194481
Oh I'm pretty sure Gygax would be PERFECTLY FINE with having Lodoss be an official BECMI setting... ...had not the Blumes, then Williams been involved.

>>97198251
TECHNICALLY part of the Sword World Universe. One of the Bubble Worlds in the Raxia setting. And hells, there's even a replay coming out soon which involves travel between Raxia and Forcelia (the world where Lodoss is.)

Why is it that so many fantasy writers make their evil cults unjoinable by anyone with a functioning brain cell? Like why would you worship Orcus, whose goal is omnicide? Why would you worship Tzeentch if he’s probably gonna screw YOU over as part of his grand plan?

What makes it so bizarre to me is that, firstly, it’s not like they need to be so off-putting to be evil. Orcus is a demon of undeath, his followers want to turn their enemies into the undead. Tzeentch wants the world to be in a constant cycle of chaos, his followers are gonna be masterminding world wars.

Secondly, it’s not like we don’t have plenty of examples of real-world evil cults. A lot of cults in the West don’t follow Super-Duper-Mega-Murder Satan, but are fucked-up offshoots of Christianity. Historically, goetia was practiced by people who would’ve still called themselves Christians, while committing rituals to summon and get boons from demons. Plenty of human cultures used to sacrifice humans to their gods, not to summon them to kill everyone or some shit, but to honor and/or appease them.

Like to use another example from Warhammer, I think Nurgle and Khorne present more “approachable” evil cults. Nurgle is toxic positivity, and his love will take all the pain away. Khorne is wrapped up in enough language about honor to lure people in.

Like to rework an evil deity, let’s pick Lamashtu. Instead of “We love ugliness and miscarriages and also you get to die in childbirth”, the cult targets vulnerable young women and lures them in with divine feminine language (“You have the power to bear and raise great beasts”), while promising the young men of monstrous races frustrated living among humans that what they’re scorned for is what makes them powerful (and also they get to have sex with pretty girls).

Apocalyptic just means "revealed", it refers to the hidden knowledge, not necessarily the end of the world. Similarly Armageddon just means "Battle of Megido Hill". Our current understanding of these terms is colored by both the millenialists (of the 10th century and the 20th century) and also the obsessions of the churches of the 16th and 17th centuries when the destruction of that world order gave rise to the protestant movements (and reverberated because of such). The gospel quotes Jesus as saying that "it will come like a thief in the night" and "no man can predict when", so naturally people have been very busy predicting the second coming since Christ's body assumed room temperature on the day of Passover.

We read our own catastrophizing into these passages, and assign modern meaning to cryptic texts about ancient news that was important only ephemerally, and probably will forever, but Paul's hope and or fear for the end of creation was just as wrong as Marshall Applewhite's (though at least Paul knew and said that his vibes were vibes and not certain), and reading time related meanings into what Christ said directly contradicts him.
>>
>>97200143
>not necessarily the end of the world.
Most scholars participating in the third quest for the historical Jesus believe that Jesus was an eschatological prophet who believed the "Kingdom of God" was coming within his own lifetime or within the lifetime of his contemporaries.[28][29][30] Simultaneously, some of these scholars tend to see Jesus's predictions as mistaken[31] although some others view it from the perspective of the conditional nature of judgement prophecy.[32][33] Dale Allison draws parallels from the history of religions and the historical Jesus showing that contingent eschatology is often used as a dissonance reduction strategy when certain expectations or prophecies fail to materialize.[34] A number of interpretations of the term "Kingdom of God" have thus appeared in its eschatological context, e.g., apocalyptic, realized or inaugurated eschatologies, yet no consensus has emerged among scholars.[35][36] The major focus for Jesus's eschatological teachings in the Gospels is the Olivet Discourse in Mark 13, where "Jesus speaks as if Peter, James, and John will personally experience the parousia."[37]

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

Spearhead is fucking sick. Aos is fun too, but it's a little messy trying to list build rn. The funny rules of aos1ed are long gone, they were only present for 6 months maybe less.

Previously: https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/96936967/

When last we met, we made G.E.T.S. (Generally Entertaining Team-built System). Thus far, it seems to be a fairly minimalist system.

Now, we shall make our first setting for this system.

If your proposed idea gets doubles, it is canonized. Any canon characters, worldbuilding, themes, et cetera can be modified (but not outright contradicted or discarded) by triples, quadruples, et cetera.

Let us continue.

Unfortunately I probably don't know as much as you'd hope. I don't really play. I used to play Duel Masters Play's (the official mobile game though it has a PC client too) but I stopped because I don't like gacha shit. It was really fun, but I don't wanna fall down that hole. If you're interested in it there are ways to play it in English if you don't know Japanese, though it's got many differences from the paper game.
Nowadays I basically just follow the official Youtube channel (Duetube). They show off and talk about new releases and stuff, and also stream pro games every now and again (you can find VODs in the live section on the channel).
I hope you know Japanese.

As far as what I can generally tell you about the metagame and how to git gud and make gud decks:

Most decks try to win by cheating out big creatures as early as they can as their win-con, basically creating a board state that is powerful enough to tank any shield triggers when they swing (or has abilities that disable shield triggers). There are lots of mechanics that help you do this, like revolution change and invasion, or just cards with effects that simply "put" creatures without paying their costs (Heaven's Gate is a classic example). If they're not cheating out cards, they might just have lots of fast mana ramp and cost reduction to summon big creatures fast the old-fashioned way (common in nature decks I think).
Cheating out big creatures is enough of a part of the meta that there's an entire category of creatures called "meta" or "anti-meta" creatures which serve as control pieces to prevent your opponent from cheating stuff out (or punishes them for doing so). The wiki has a whole page dedicated to them: https://duelmasters.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Anti-Meta_cards
Pic related is a classic example of an anti-meta creature (https://duelmasters.fandom.com/wiki/Testa_Rossa,_Survival_Star). His effect shuts down almost every method of cheating out creatures because most methods of cheating out creatures simply "put" a creature instead of summoning them. It would largely shut down the turn 3 winning combo I gave as an example in the Bolshack deck. That would force the Bolshack player to use removal to get rid of Testa Rossa if they wanted their strategy to work or just cope with traditional summoning. Either way it slows their game plan down significantly.

That said I think there is still a place in the meta for more weenie aggro decks that just start swinging with cheap creatures early, though they might be weak to blocker heavy decks. And then you've got bullshit combo decks that ignore board state and just win out of nowhere.

I've been on a space kick recently and want to run a sci-fi space campaign as the GM. What are the best systems for a flexible gaming experience without the autistic complexity of something like Shadowrun? I'm looking for a system that can run "magic" (Psionics, occultists, dark gods, etc) and high-tech weaponry and ships and stuff as well as madness mechanics mutations, cybernetics, horror elements, etc. Visiting weird planets, dealing with intergalactic politics, smuggling goods, assassinations, dealing with alien cultures, learning dangerous magic and technology, etc. I also want the players help make the setting so I'd prefer a flexible system that can handle a multitude of scenarios with cool aliens and stuff.

I've heard of Traveler, Starfinder, etc, I just wanna know what system(s) I should focus on learning about first. I'd rather not run it in a Star Wars DnD conversion or Feelings and Lasers. This crowd usually plays DnD or very simple games but are open to other games too. Again I've tried Shadowrun and I'd rather a system that isn't over-complicated and just has the hacking take up 90% of the screentime.

I did have a vague idea for a story, the last tank battalion of a fallen nation in an era where gundam type mechas have taken over, attempting to survive and prove their mettle. Would probably take a real tread head to make anything of it though.

Not entirely. Even 'gears are cheapo" aside, they have striders for their "yeah we want a mech that owns anything" purposes.

No, striders are just less effective tanks that are better in the extreme terrain of terra nova

That sounds like a reason why they're better. "Less effective" is a pointless statement in a battlefield where not having any legs makes you the less effective one. A tank is a crap weapon on waterworld. It's not valuable to sit around theorizing "well if it wasn't waterworld, tanks would beat up the navy!", because it is.
