proompting lazily will produce shit results, it's the equivalent of shitty ms paint squiggles but concealed slightly more, though not nearly as much as some lazy proompters think

meanwhile doing high effort proompting means either genning a thousand pics for every success or spending extra time inpainting and photoshopping manually to get a good result, either way it takes effort, probably more effort than it would take to just google a pic that fits, but sometimes the pic you want just doesn't exist outside of creating it from nothing

What makes a system's mechanics "fun" for you? What turns you off?

80% skill and 20% luck.
Backgammon is a good example of this. A clearly stronger player will win the overwhelming majority of the time, but sometimes the dice gods fuck them over and favor the obviously weaker player to the degree the weaker player wins.

Going much higher in either direction makes the game feel stupid for having luck involved at all while also being kind of a bitch to table if your opponent is clearly weaker or stronger than you OR the game is just outright bullshit to even play.

Strangely, going 100% luck based somehow makes the game go right back to being fun again. If everyone knows it's bullshit and you are just in it for the ride? Good times abound. If there is any strategy involved in those games it becomes a massive hinderance to enjoyment. DungeonQuest, for example, is great because you will most likely die no matter what the fuck you do and that's what everyone signed on for. Pandemic, however, is total horseshit because you need to strategize effectively to win but can play a perfect game and get a Candyland style loss because the deck just said No and you can't do a god damn thing about it.
>>
>>96452041
Resolution speed. Doesn't matter if it's a wargame or RPG. It's fun to have a system for everything, but if I can't resolve every decision instantly I'm put off from it. Cadence is important, and games that necessitate fiddling with either physical objects or mathematics or dice at length are annoying.

Magic. Magic that blatantly gives you stuff (Yes, I'm talking about D&D) especially teleportation/flying magic. I fucking hate magic.
>>
That has so many factors to consider. In general, I like the Advantage/Disadvantage mechanics of 5e. I think it's just real simple and clever. And most importantly, fun. As far as turn offs? Anything way too metagamy where I have to constantly be thinking about how it works.

Good. This game was never anything but a ploy for creeps to get access to children.
>>
I was at PAX West this past weekend, and Lorcana had many events scheduled, but when I walked by that area, it wasn't very busy. There were some people playing games, at most thirty.

That's not really a big sign of anything, because PAX is more of a video game convention than a tabletop one, and it's possible that there were more exciting things to do at the convention than play Lorcana. Still, I tried to pay attention more to the types of people who were sitting at the tables. As you can expect, most of them were overweight. And all of them were very clearly adults. I'm talking 30s. Now, I'm not one to talk, being overweight and in my thirties as well, but people like to dress up to conventions and wear their fandoms on their sleeves, so you can easily get a whiff of the type of person someone is and what they're into.

I think that the audience for this game is pretty much the Platonic ideal of "Disney Adult." So obviously nobody on /tg/ talks about it. Closest thing this board has to Disney fans are the /tv/ transplants in the Star Wars threads. Funny, the TF2 cosplay meetup on Friday has a handful of kids who were younger than the game, but I didn't see a single child at the Lorcana tables.

I'm sure kids play this game, but it's no surprise who the main audience appears to be.
>>
Don't think so.
At my LGS(es) there's always just a couple Lorcana products on the shelf. Someone's buying them.

I would say it's probably Union Arena that's forgotten, but maybe it was never remembered in the first place. Like One Piece and Gundam.

/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

>Their version of Morlocks are what we could consider Neanderthals, or maybe devolved deepfolks. Is there a clear divide?
In my mind, yes, Neanderthals are either very hirsute men with rough features, or actual Neanderthals, Devolved Deepfolks have a very varied outlook within even the same family or across the whole group, from looking ghoulish to bestial (Moreau's).
You could argue that Apemen (and not Neanderthals) are a kind of Devolved Deepfolks, but I would suggest that Apemen have stable features across a bloodline, while Devolved Deepfolks are pretty much always playing the random-extra-organ-or-limb lottery every time they pop a new baby.

Do you mind if we change the name to this, to mirror the US one?
I think, even without the Headdress, that it is still a bit too good. +1 AP over the average is worth more than -1 LP. Would you mind if we removed the Quickshot Colt as well as the Colt itself from the profile, and have it an option along with the Longbow for him to take (Longbow training instead of quickshot?) ?

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What is your opinion on the art in GURPS books?

I've said this before but I think a good compromise would be
>AP value worse than Save: Take full save
>AP value equals Save: Take save at -1
>AP value better than Save: no Save
Basically gives three separate states for armor saves that allows for additional granularity while avoiding the obnoxious unbalanced modifier creep of 40k.

I'm wondering if I have the right stats because I intend to combine all of them, never use them alone.
Medieval fantasy with focus on infiltration/escaping/disabling traps & magic + social conspiracy

Strength is not needed because magic
>Willpower
to combine with Vitality to resist torture
to combine with Charisma to resist intimidation
>Vitality (boost hitpoint or poisons resist)
to combine with Charisma to Intimidate
>Agility
>Dexterity
can't decide if I need both
Agility is about agile body, meant to combine with Vitality if you need basic movement
Dexterity is about skills, meant to combine with Agility to avoid traps, or with Intelligence to disarm trap, or with Charisma to manipulate
if I don't have both, it bothers me to not differentiate basic and skillful actions,

Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>
>>96467227
I would argue you don't need both Agility and Dex. To me, Intelligence holds more of an implication of a character doing something in a skilled way.
Agility+Int works just fine as a general trap avoidance, lockpicking, etc. Agility+Charisma still works for fast talk.

The lack of Strength isn't an issue because there is a decent amount of coverage for physical tasks. Willpower+Vitality works fine for someone lifting something heavy, Agility+Vitality works for general physical tasks, and I could see Willpower+Agility working fine for some weapons. In some ways I could even see fusing Willpower and Charisma into Passion.

As far as awareness goes, you could possibly just use Intelligence and Willpower. Remember that the point of a system where rolls are just a combo of two stats is that you don't need to worry about making a skill for every little thing.
If you're that worried, you could swap Intelligence for something like Acuity, where then it not only covers a sharp mind, but also sharp eyes and ears. That's what I mentioned earlier in the thread about using more broad names for stats so that they can cover more situation. Since then you avoid needing to add in a new niche stat .

What’s the draw (besides pic related) for putting vampires in your story, if you aren’t going to lean into their greedy monsters stealing the lives’ of other to continue their unlife angle? It seems wasteful to put something like Frankenstein’s monster in your game but elide man’s hubris playing God. If you want sexy fetish-havers or superheroes who sparkle in the sun, just do that and not water down monsters with added allegorical appeal.
>>
>>96466782
The draw is hot people in dark clothes. And not needing to obey "lore" because you have already forsaken the majority of it, picking and choosing elements as they suit you. "Vampire" is simply an easier word to use instead of "blood sucking monster" or "Tribe of the Blue Glass Moon" or whatever else you would otherwise call it.

Popular Choices for Games:

>Mutants & Masterminds
Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

>Masks (PbtA)
Rules light game with focus on narrative. Less rules reading more making stuff up on the moment. Game is built on the concept of playing as young heroes but you can use it for more mature settings.

Animal Forms is quite strong for its cost, it's nearly as versatile as a narrow Omni Power while only costing two thirds as much, and doesn't have the unique drawbacks of Omni Power. What would prevent it from being relevant at any power level?

In M&M2e, a Variable Power is 8 points per rank, with each rank giving you 5 points to spend more or less however you want. Beast Boy limits that by, 1, being only able to transform into animals, and 2, only ever being green. This turns an 8p/r power into a 6p/r, which is enormously more affordable and only barely less powerful.

Okay? Is this supposed to be answering my question? I don't get why you replied to me.

I put much stock in a super-genius character whose arc starts like silver age Lex Luthor, but mellows out into more of an anti-heroic doctor who. It's a lot of fun to write over the top schemes/adventures with sophisticated (hard) sci-fi gadgetry.
>resources
Half his income is from extorting pharmaceutical companies with an omni-cure for all diseases he threatens to release unless paid regularly. Corporate assassins are occasionally sent after him but he is always prepared. The rest is grand larceny, shell companies, and selling inventions on the black market. Also his tech is powered by dark energy he collects with casual space travel.

I heard a couple fa/tg/uys made a Hollow Knight TTRPG a few years ago: https://hkrpg-team.itch.io/hollow-knight-rpg
Since Silksong is due to release in just a few days (Sept 4th) - and I remember the anon who mentioned this game said the devs were waiting on it before making any major updates - I figured it was a good time to ask: how is this system? And since it comes with its own more adventure-friendly setting (Oakshade) since the point of Hallownest is that it's dead and buried, how is it too?

I remember being so unreasonably, earth-shatteringly fuck-ass mad about this when I saw it because I had literally JUST made my own kingdom under the EXACT same name.

Like, it was called Oakshade, there was a Great Tree, the royal district in the bows was called Canopy, and there was a bustling city running through the trunk called Heartwood-- but the surrounding regions and territory were like, vastly different.

I'm a calmer person now and I can accept that "someone else did it first/too" doesn't mean either of us is unoriginal, as long as we each came to our idea organically and didn't just rip off someone else's.

The other HK ttrpg you're thinking of doesn't come from here.

True enough

Battle can extremly fast or a slog that will take you 5 hours to resolve some very common battle.
Also I heavily advise to scale down every fight and to not put too many actors (on either side) of the battle.
Ranged attacks are also hella gay and magic is OP but that's ttrpgs for you.
At least in this one you can have a beatle that jumps twice as high by default to reach backline on character creation, and every character has some sort of survivability by focusing Soul
