I've said this before but I think a good compromise would be
>AP value worse than Save: Take full save
>AP value equals Save: Take save at -1
>AP value better than Save: no Save
Basically gives three separate states for armor saves that allows for additional granularity while avoiding the obnoxious unbalanced modifier creep of 40k.

Getting anons riled up like it's Monday, welcome to another rocking thread of the Board Games General.

Previous: >>96428867

Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/h8Tz2ze8

Survey results: https://pastebin.com/YJPZ44rq

This general encompasses all board game genres - Eurogames, Ameritrash, Ameritreasure, Fillers, Party, Abstracts, Wargames, and especially the game that one anon is autistic about at this very moment.

TQs:
What off meta plays/builds have you seen severely irritate other players?

Are you a scripted openings or wild child type?

If you want Sci-fantasy-ish designs then download blender, mix and match fantasy and sci-fi figures, and 3d print them. I gather you can luck into whatever you're looking for if you look for isekai (I know) anime characters and add helmets, guns and other accessories from different media.

I dunno what to tell you man, it sounds like you've made your mind up already to justify the fact that you can't find any of this stuff, but since I feel compelled to answer:
>No images, no models.
There are plenty, just nobody has posted any here (and I won't be doing because it's not my problem)

>Everything online is just the same old 40k STLs reposted endlessly
My 6tb drive (which is missing some of the stuff that's been released in the last couple months) says this is categorically false

>And now people are claiming there's this massive Telegram group packed with 40k files
Genuinely cute that you think there's a single group lol

>yet not a single leak has surfaced?
Why would anyone feel the need to leak stuff from a group, ask yourself what benefit that has to the leaker. As it stands, I've never seen a single leak either actually, which is pretty impressive given the membership numbers of some of the groups (tens of thousands)
To be fair, back a couple of years ago I did see lists of groups leaked, but those groups have all been nuked now and no such lists exist for the new groups since they're all locked down.

This the "simplification" of Star Player access has been the absolute worst idea they had in 2020 edition and it needs to go back to carefully curated lists of who will play for what. So what if that requires a lot of reading, casual players don't fucking use Star Players anyway.
Hakflem needs to go back to being Skaven and Underworld only. Cindy Piewhistle needs to be Halfling only. Gnomes should NOT be able to hire Halfling Star players full stop.
It needs to be fixing, and the longer it's left like this the harder the job is going to be to do.
Like, I would sooner they keep Wildly Innaccurate. Keep the defacto removal of Stat Increases from the game. Keep everyone's Passing stat being 1 less across the board in almost all cases than the previous edition.
If they fix any one thing, NOTHING would be better that going back to the properly curated Star Player access lists.
>>
>>96465729

The new guys are fairly pointless. It's amazing how dirty they did the Sneaky Stabbas though. Overpriced, with shitty skills, no Dirty Player and no basic access to Sneaky Git. A skill LITERALLY NAMED AFTER THEM.

Incredible.

But you can still build them the old way, and it'll still work. Sure you lost Tackle on your linedwarfs, but Ironhard skin basically means they're never going to get fouled, are largely immune to chainsaws, don't need to worry about Mighty Blow or some random stadium or weather roll or a wizard with a lightning bolt.
It probably won't FEEL like it comes up all that much, but it's probably going to effect the opponents planning more than you'll realise.
>>
>>96462286
They're a fine team, the thrower isn't good at throwing (in the current rules) so he's more like a runner. You definitely need an ogre and maybe a halfling if you want to try a thrown halfling one turn touchdown.

The imp nobs are like a control team, you want to get guard on your bodyguards and try to shut down your opponent's gameplan. Use blitzers to hit things, fend can be nice at gumming up your opponent's plans

The ogre is huge for giving you a roadblock/pivot points, just don't rely on him because bonehead (while the best negatrait) is still a negatrait and will fuck you
>>
>>96463417
you dont need fans for models and you dont really need star players like they may come up in a league because theyre kind of like force multipliers if your team is weaker than your opponents you get to use them for free to even the playing field or if youre going to a tournament you may use a star player on your team to improve their power but not really with nobs

As an ex-competitive Modern fag until MH2, its because they spend 0 time fixing their competitive formats, hell its happening right now in standard

Modern keeps getting some fucking retarded Universes beyond or pushed card that just stays center stage in the format for over a year before correction. I get wanting people to use new cards and such, but it's so ridiculously strong or forced that it warps the entire meta game around the one ring or some other BS that its unfun.

In standard, there's Vivi thats turned the format into Izzet or rogue decks only. And because they don't want to ban more cards again after JUST banning 7 IN A ROTATING FORMAT, its going to stick for another 3+ months.

People just quit and play other card games because before when Wizards got careless, they had no choice but to wait. But now there's great card games you can play as an alternative, and you just don't go back because being excited for a new set every 3 weeks just isn't possible if you have a life.

The sad thing about mtg is that they don't try to create new archetypes or new cool mechanics, everything now is recycled shit and to make sales they have to powercreep the fuck out of things.
If they hadn't as many sets a year or actually thought of new standalone mechanics with synergy with older shit they wouldn't need to fuck things up constantly.

The new Warlord cards for exemple are really cool and some seems overpowered but in older formats they are just ok because the things that are meta in the older formats are consistent. Not that the new cards are unplayable but instead of lots of them becoming meta only a few see play right now, maybe in a few years the new packages become better but right now the 12 years worth of sets hold more value in the meta.

Going back to mtg, if wotc explored more for exemple the land and eggs(artifact) themes from MH1 then perhaps MH2 wouldn't need ragavans or evoke elementals to sell.
>>
>>96467194
Well Wizards has shifted a TON since MH2, it's very obvious crossovers are the star of the show considering every set for the rest of the year are crossovers.

Commander solved Wizard's biggest issue: capitalizing on kitchen table players. Now they're in the fucking money since competitive is probably less than 1% of current sales, and all the commander Timmy's are the rest of it.

You can't take both the plasma gunner and plasma pistol on your leader. Most opt for the gunner
Flamer is not great on open boards, maybe better on ITD with lethal, but often left behind since you can only have 3 total gunners/sharpshooter
Enforcer is basically an auto-take for enabling your gunners to shoot twice in a tp
Ogryn is fun but depends in the matchup. You may want 2 troopers instead (group activation krak grenades are mean)

Blooded token/gaze of the gods management is key. Be aware of abilities like your leader that automatically grant those statuses

And you have a ploy that lets you shoot into melee and a serious sam mad bomber guy. Get close to your enemy and abuse them

Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows

I played a lot of StarCraft and I have no misgivings about it, but the style looks like slop. Bad proportions, too nu-Blizzard. StarCraft 2’s aesthetic did itself scuff the clarity of the artistic vision of the first by making everything so smooth. The models they’ve shown renders for look like random crap you’d find online from an independent creator. That’s not ‘everything I don’t like is slop’. Plenty of things I don’t like don’t look like slop. I hate primaris but they looks good.

GURPS has 4 main stats, and a multitude of secondary stats derived from the main 4.
The main 4 are:
Strength, which determines your damage with muscle powered weapons, your hit points, and your capacity to lift/carry weight.
Dexterity, which determines the speed you react/act in initiative, how fast you move, and your ability to use dexterity skills (any skill requiring the use of your hands or other extermities).
Intelligence, which effects your Perception, Willpower, and ability to use Mental skills.
Health, which effects your fatigue points, ability to resist being stunned or poisoned, and is used for a few niche skills like Hiking.

GURPS separates what would be the "charisma" attribute into multiple constituent advantages/disadvantages, including your Voice, Appearance, Charisma (word choice), your skill at certain influence skills (diplomacy, fast talk, intimidation, sex appeal), your social status, and your reputation.
>>
>>96465923
Fighting Fantasy has Skill, Luck, Stamina, with Stamina being hit points and Luck is somewhere between a stat and a meta-currency. Some have none at all but that gets into "barely a game" territory.
I'm trying to go with Bile, Melancholy, Blood, and Phlegm, with the idea being that their personality is more important than their physical or mental capacity.

As soon as you get to like 9 or more stats, you're probably better off asking yourself if your game should just be focused on a skill list instead.
And if you only have 2 stats, then you've basically reduced your game to something like pic related where the stats are just treated as inverses of eachother. Helpful for a one-page RPG that needs to keep things simple. Less so for anything robust.

For what you're asking for, 4-5 is probably better to aim for, especially in the context of every roll being a combination of two stats. The thing to keep in mind there is that the more stats you have, the more combinations you need to account for in terms of what they mean.

For instance, what would be the distinction between using Strength+Charisma and Constitution+Charisma? If certain pairings end up redundant, that's probably an indication that you need to meld some things together. A more generalized Brawn stat would likely be more useful in that context.
And just as a whole for that sort of system, stats that sound more broad make it easier to find a pairing that suits the situation and make judgement calls on the fly.
>>
>>96465923
My main Attributes are:
>Agility - a combination of flexibility & snap-decision making
>Strength - an abstraction of both physical burst strength & magical might
>Vitality - combines endurance, fighting stamina, & luck into one abstract factor

Each Attribute has a slightly different behavior depending on each Feature, too:
• Head
>AGI: Every 1.00 applies +1 RFX to Action & Reaction Skills
>STR: Applies its value to the base Power of Thrown Skills
>VIT: Every 0.25 contributes 1/4 HP to the Head Feature
• Body
> AGI: Every 1.00 applies +1 Chance to the character's Control Checks & -1 Chance to incoming Zoning Effects
> STR: Applies its value to the base Power of Melee Skills
> VIT: Every 0.25 contributes 1/4 HP to the Body Feature

I'm wondering if I have the right stats because I intend to combine all of them, never use them alone.
Medieval fantasy with focus on infiltration/escaping/disabling traps & magic + social conspiracy

Strength is not needed because magic
>Willpower
to combine with Vitality to resist torture
to combine with Charisma to resist intimidation
>Vitality (boost hitpoint or poisons resist)
to combine with Charisma to Intimidate
>Agility
>Dexterity
can't decide if I need both
Agility is about agile body, meant to combine with Vitality if you need basic movement
Dexterity is about skills, meant to combine with Agility to avoid traps, or with Intelligence to disarm trap, or with Charisma to manipulate
if I don't have both, it bothers me to not differentiate basic and skillful actions,

i remember one time we ripped through 40-50 goblins in WFRP, and it took us only about an hour. no special rules for fighting a pack, just the regular ones. imagine any other somewhat serious system doing that.

>it's simplistic
it's literally the same stuff they use in Mordheim minis

Lancer. Damage/death system is fun.
>>
>>96466207
If the systems I've played, I think I enjoyed DH2e (and by extension the other FFG 40k games) the most. There are plenty of things to do in combat, both for melee and ranged, utilizing cover and terrain is rewarding, and unless you're playing a backline sniper you have plenty to do other than "Okay I half-action Aim and then shoot."
Its too bad the people I played with were mouth-breathers.
Surprisingly I've quite liked Wrath & Glory, I think its a decent successor even if it isn't as focused as the previous 40k rpgs. D6 dice pool has been more fun than I believed it would be.

odd question, but oes anyone know any chess-base multiplayer rpgs (tg or otherwise)? I'm interested in making one, but I don't know how other developers have handled the clusterfuck of having multiple players

In french defense advance variation, as black how do i deal with the advanced pawn? I used to oppose it with the f pawn but that seems like a subomptimal strategy

>Disney needs to give the Rebels/New Republic a cool helmet
Personally, I'd design "cool Rebel marines" like this:
>space brigandine
>shooting gloves
>belt with between two and four pouches and a large holster for their blaster, which is about the same size as an E-11
>take the Tantive IV helmet and modify it into looking more like a sallet, I love sallets

Yeah- though in this instance I think it's mediated by them having not pressed the issue, just extending the offer. Yoda might have nagged them had they picked up one of the two if nothing went wrong- but you showcase it was overstepping bounds.

Can you back up your arguments with examples? Cause again, not my reading, and from what it seems, not the reading of most people who watched the show.

I think there needs to be continuity of designs to make the world feel related. In sense I argue that Republic Troopers need to look like good guy versions of Storm Troopers. This would provide visual continuity in the idea that they are the successor to the Republic in the way the Empire billed itself, as the Storm Trooper designs were descended from the Clone Trooper Designs.

I would perhaps make the default a lighter version of the armor though- to suggest that they are less militaristic than the Empire, with the ability to armor them up for bigger military confrontations. So I'd limit armor to shins, forearms, chest-plate and helmet. I'd keep the white color, but maybe with more accents or a slightly off white to again differentiate them from Storm Troopers.

For the Helmet I'd take the Alderaan helmet (which would double as a nice bout of symbolism), maybe make it a bit more compact (for ease of moving about in it), and adding a face-plate that turns it into a full helmet. The face plate I think is the area that would be the most 'new', and there'd be a lot of questions on what you'd want the 'face' of the Republic trooper to be. I think I'd go for a black visor over the eyes, since I think that's a bit more neutral than the more skull-shaped Storm Trooper Helmet.

I'd also add elements of cloth straps or 'ammo pouches' around to help make them appear a bit less mechanical than the Storm Trooper.

Did the ISB exist in the EU before the Rogue one? they seem too much of a major faction with serious intrigue to be a product of disney worldbuilding

Amusingly enough Disney Wars' ISB is far more important in-universe than the original ISB.
They are from the EU but never did anything except get mentioned here and there in WEG sourcebooks.
In the EU Imperial Intelligence under Isard handled all the intrigue.

There was a concept of the ISB already, first being from WEG's d6 SWRPG module "Rebel Breakout" 1987, it's very light in terms of describing the organization though. However, the iconic white uniform
was already a concept before Disney (on a TCG).

where would one be able to find a link to the SecComm server? as entertaining as it is to look at pnet screeching, sometimes its better to be able to talk about different viewpoints without trannies crying for you to get banned
