>>96823698Why would you need to compromise, are you just ignoring the actual rules and hoping the people agree with your half remembered interpretation? >>96824653The French would explicitly NOT go to war with Italy, by that point it would start WW1. The whole point of signing the Triple Alliance was to guard that flank. Ethiopian would have French support, and "crusader" volunteers operating from French Obock.

Tried to figure out the physiology of the Ogres in my setting, both in terms of the male and female ones. I have envisioned them having almost Elephant seal style sexual dimorphism, though not due to evolution, but because of genetic engineering. The males were designed for frontline combat and warfare, being extremely robust, durable and prone to violence, whereas the females were designed for both birthing and raising the next generation of ogres as well as generally more "home front" labor and what not, as their physical strenght, as well as the engineered generally docile temperament they have made them excellent laborers.
>>96824203Did you draw these??
I love unarmed melee fighter concepts. What traditional game has your favorite unarmed combat? Ever played a memorable fist fighter character?
>>96825025It doesn't really solve the thread when the vast majority of games don't function that way despite having other good system parts.
>>96825115One is sufficient, of course, and it does solve the thread.
>>96803571Why would anyone want to play an unarmed character in a world where magic weapons exuat, and anyone can be arned to the teeth. And don't get me started in Shaolin monks, they were highly skilled in a wide array if weapons, also in wuxia magic weapons also exist, fights are fought mainly with weapons, unarmed fighting is a last resort. Tipically in a fantasy world the worlds inner logic can't even explain why there are people who wanna go up against armed knights in a robe, and empty handed.
>>96825413Because you're playing The Warriors as a hex crawl. And sure, you can use bottles and chains and baseball bats - but only when you find them. Can you dig it?
>>96803571Unarmed is the most powerful style in WFRP4e. I once tried an unarmed elf and was completely invulnerable to harm.

>>96825808Use reality warping powers to fix the shitty writing that made them what they are. Demons as they are described in Frieren should have died out long ago and make 0 sense. In the end it'll probably get revealed that some sort of god of darkness artificially made them in a fight against the light god or something stupid like that.
>>96825987I feel the author of Frieren wanted to make them The Thing or Jenova, an alien intelligence merely mimicking emotions, but also wanted to have villains with emotions who piss and shit themselves at the sight of Frieren's raw staff and you really can't have both. Classic case of wanting to eat the cake and have it too.
>>96826019It's kind of the fundamental problem that you can't have an antagonist that is just unquestionably evil and also have them be interesting. Even if the reason is power, sadism or turf, there needs to be some sort of reason for them to do this.If there is no reason for them to do anything, it's the equivalent of fighting a natural disaster and there's no interest in your protagonists interacting with them as characters. And then every interaction/ending involving the protagonists and antagonists ends up identical.

In general looking at character art really helps Me feel inspired. >>96823149>>96825852Because if the former is cool too, you could take art like this and say "yeah he's psychic, you can tell cuz he doesn't have a big ass sword or armour"

Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade (74-83) — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Session 2 of Stonehell on the Borderlands last night. The party explored the south wall of the canyon on their way to the dungeon entrance. In the evil rooms where the skeletons & cenotaph are they decided to provoke the skeletons, setting a rope up as a tripwire across a bottleneck. This did work well, and prevented the skeletons from landing a hit in the first round, but then the skeletons won initiative and one killed the 2hp magic user. After regrouping, the party decided to stop mucking about on the surface & actually enter the dungeon. I was looking forward to this, as reading the inscription over the entrance was intended to be a sort of "title-card" moment, it was only now that a player might realize exactly what I was running. I was rewarded with expressions of recognition from a couple of the players. We didn't have much time left in the session to explore much of the first level. The fighter died to the dry fountain poison gas trap & then the party ran away home at the sound of approaching critters. Another session with a paltry ~30xp per player awarded.I wish I had thought quicker around the poison gas trap and given it a bit more description. The player who died wasn't especially put out by it, but it did feel a little unfair. I'm pretty sure I ran it correctly: only one PC investigated it - they tried to pour water on it, I rolled 2/6 so asked for a saving throw against poison, the character failed & died.I don't know what I could have said that might have made the player tread more carefully; we agreed it was a good tone-setter & warning as to what they might expect. A shame they turned North instead of South at that intersection as I was hoping they would discover the wheel of fortune instead.
>>96825763Nothing you said sounds like you did wrong. Unwillingly sacrificing a couple of level 1 pcs to the rpg gods to set the tone of the dungeon and the expected level of deadliness is one of the best ways to get into it a new campaign honestly.
>>96825763The opening levels of Stonehell do feel a bit lacklustre and short of reward. The text gives a perfectly plausible reason for this, but it's always what has made me shy away from running it myself: I worry players would think it's an empty shithole before making it to the vastly more rewarding lower levels.Good luck in your campaign, and keep us posted.

>>96820205Seems like a neat idea. You might add some kind of flavor pertaining to how it might have once been a holy object within the order and that the corruption staining it mirrors the fallen Cleric's own. Maybe give the fallen Cleric one moment of hesitation or some minor redemption as he falls to thematically connect the idea that the mace itself can still be redeemed. Some players might be remiss to use a cursed mace that appears to have more downside than upsides or abilities that come off as evil, so providing that connection will foreshadow a reason to stick with it even if the player doesn't feel an internal impetus to do so.
>>96824449The flight tends to not be a huge issue in my games because players always find other forms of mobility (or just get flight some other way) to make it just one factor among many in combat or exploration. The temp HP also tends not to be a huge deal as monsters can chomp down pretty hard if you don't pull your punches anyway.I'd call Twilight Cleric overtuned more so than busted.
>>96823315Mummers masks
>>96821735No, you just need to have a player thats quick at rolling the temp hp, otherwise it slows down combat even more.
