They probably are just lazy about them in this day and age, but a lot of older games expect you to adjudicate stuff like that on your own. Some of them even had GMs by default to facilitate hidden units and unusual game actions (like shooting at the cliff above an enemy to cause a rockslide on them). Deep down, Battletech is still that way. The official rules as written way to determine force composition is to select or create a scenario and then choose what forces will be fighting it however you feel like doing that. "BV2 balanced, rules level or era limited" is simply the most popular way to do that. But you have to actively choose to do it that way. It is just as legal to play 52 card pickup with Alpha Strike cards, or copy the unit composition you see in a novel, or use a RAT, or just arbitrarily pick units with no balance in mind at all, as long as whatever you do matches the scenario you plan to play.

Accidental Encounter Edition

>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

But, to answer your question, it's because Denmark isn't a threat them, and isn't peer to Germany. So, they don't have to worry about the support itself coming back to bite them, and can use the "it's good for the Economy" excuse: same goes for Austria. Hell, they might just do it because it is legitimately is good for the economy. Remember, we are talking about economic support here, and before Doggerland.
>improving the entrance
It's another Eiffel Tower, not a simple road, river, or rail. It isn't setting breaking, it technically could kinda makes sense, but has the same problem as the UK allowing Denmark to use Iceland, in that it diminishes the potency of a more important and established thing. Also, the Eiffel Tower was built out of necessity, while Dogger Tower would be a vanity project. No way in hell that thing would turn a profit in a hundred years, and as a military investment its redundant for everyone, and for everyone but Britain (and maybe France) also a liability. I'd be much more okay with another tower if it was also Eiffel doing it, but even then, it would feel cheap to me.
>>96825619
All we'd need for that mechanically, strictly speaking, is one explicitly Swedish unit, probably a Worker. I'd say max, 1 Norwegian regular unit, and 2 explicitly Swedish units with one regular and the other restricted, and a "Scandinavian" generic leader. I really like Doggerland being the catalyst for confederation, especially if it's because off some discovery there, but i'm not unwilling to give up that image.
>if they manage to tardwrangle Sweden from being autistic about Finland they'd have that front covered at least.
Maybe they get access to Agartha through the Tzardom? That would be enough for the Swedes in Sweden, i think. Would you be alright with that?
>>
>>96827666
>Maybe they get access to Agartha through the Tzardom?
A deal with the devil, so to speak. It'd have to come back to bite them in some way, i suppose.
>>96825458
Actually, no. Even outside of the thread, i've had a stressful month or so, and have an out of town familial obligation this weakened, and i'd rather do just about anything the day before than argue with you about Denmark on discord. Additionally, i see no reason why it can't be worked out in thread, and wouldn't benefit from doing so. It should be easyer to work out in thread because it's public, recorded, and non-immediate. Non-immediate is the most important part, maybe.
But regardless of medium, i'm utterly completely fucking done with this conversation until at least next Tuesday. In the meantime, if you want to reread my recent posts on the matter, meaning this thread and the last, and give thoughtful and honest replies to their content, then you can either post them in the meantime and let me get back to you when i do, or have them prepared for later. You are the only one who wants to keep this conversation going, so now here the burden is on you to accommodate me.

>Maybe they get access to Agartha through the Tzardom? That would be enough for the Swedes in Sweden, i think. Would you be alright with that?
That's... quite a solution. I think it's a little too awkwardly positioned. I can only conceive of very limited scenarios, like scientific expeditions, where any troops from Scandinavia would go to the Urals, then under them.
Swedish business interests were involved in the Tsardom, most notably the Nobel family, who were very big in the oil industry. I imagine they'd be interested in Neptunium as well. But I imagine they'd just fund expeditions from Tsardom itself.
>>
Anyway, by "not be autistic" I didn't mean some treaty renouncing claims or something, I just meant not actively antagonizing the Tsardom, between Britain and Germany they'd have their hands full.
I feel this runs in similar problem as with Iceland, where realistically speaking, they have to make a deal with very little leverage, this time for even less benefit. The only good reason I can see is that it justifies fielding them on the 4th Layer.
Honestly, they work as is. They'd cut their teeth on expeditions though Paris, then, when they feel ready, try at Doggerland. That's realistically the most we can squeeze out of them.
The future (or current) Kalmar Union can also have their hyperdiver space program. If you really think about it, just sending dudes into a stream of PAIN is the poor man's option and they are well positioned towards the pole. My only real concern there was it being too early, as I'd prefer any Hyperborean exploration to be a kind of last frontier everyone would get to explore more or less simultaneously, and making it some specific Denmark thing.

There's obviously eagle and serpent imagery in earlier Mesoamerican civilizations, but the specific motif of a serpent eating an eagle isn't that common, and notably that's not even necessarily "the" main symbol of the founding of Tenochtitlan, since various colonial and prehispanic depictions of that scene by Aztec artists show the eagle with other things in it's mouth or talons beyond serpents: At best the imagery is inconsistent.

Mesoamerica didn't have contact with any cultures from Afro-Eurasia, and even trade/contact with other parts of the Americas were limited: There was a decent amount to the Southwest US in certain time periods, some gradual exchange/transmission down through Central America, and at some times there were naval/coastal trade going on between Ecuador and West Mexico

At best you could say that that West Mexican - Ecuadorian trade could then link to the limited contact we have evidence for between Polynesians and South Americans, and then from the Polynesians to Afro-Eurasian cultures, but there's no reason to think any knowledge or objects were carried indirectly that far.

The furthest evidence of indirect trade we have that's hard proof is that there's some Mesoamerican obsidian found at Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma, but again, that's also likely A to B, B to C, C to D etc style trade, not direct contact. Step Fret motifs in Meosamerican and Andean civilizations down in Peru are also pretty damn similar, enough to where I think you could argue something without it just being /x/ nonsense, but there hasn't been any studies I could find on the step fret's development in general despite it's frequency and importance in the art in both regions

lots of mentions of Asymmetric Warfare here. Hows it compare to Black Ops? Its the modern game I settled on because I like that it has rules for stealth but actual combat mechanics are kinda crappy. Any stealth rules in AW? Is it a simple game or complex? I run lots of games at cons and prefer rules that are easy to teach, I like that I can teach someone to play BO in less than 10 minutes.
>>
>>96827821
AW has stealth and concealed rules. The game mechanics are pretty simple to learn but the game has a ton that you can choose to add on to make it very complex if you like, there is rules for pretty much everything you can imagine in modern war, drones, CAS, artillery, medevac, EW, etc. I think the rules are very realistic and encourage actual CQB and real world squad tactics.

Everywhere I've looked people only want to run asynchronous play-by-post. Games advertised as live text get a dearth of responses compared to PbP and voice. Players even feel entitled to tell you they've lost interest because it's not one of those formats.

Was there some revolution I slept on? Years ago you used to be able to find something. Now an entire summer went by without a single game showing up.

God damn it feels like this whole hobby died out of nowhere.

Even when i did play games where I had to mic up i would still shitpost in the text channels. I run a live text dnd 13e game on sundays. I get alot of forigeners and mmo chatbar enjoyers. Live text filters alot of people who are there for attention and socialization instead of the game and pbp is timeslot agnostic. I keep my players in a voice channel, we all mute mic and play dungeon synth archives beacuse at one point I had to stop 2 zoomers from being in a voice call during the game lol.

Sometimes we pregame and postgame in voice. I enjoy gaming with people before when I know a bit about them, where they from and their real name that kind of thing. This filters some people out but our group is stronger for it.

Why not? The whole point of them being overstrength is that there is *bare minimum* 100 marines on the planet (of various types) to guard the munitions foundry. Realistically, the 100-150 marines are always there which are composed of a lot of marines who are outside the TO&E as >>96826252 said.

I think it's amusingly realistic.
The Imperium was too slow catching the Templars so they're stuck with either letting them continue their bullshit or waging a horrendous civil war.
That, however, in no way means that they would ever let anyone else get away with it. On the contrary I think the High Lords and Inquisition would be all over a chapter that tried to follow in their footsteps faster than stink on shit.
>>
>>96827363
It's hard to punish a Second Founding unit, yeah. One should never try to do as the Templars did. It won't end well.

It doesn't use the magic in a creative way. Why even go through all the trouble of making something like this when you can just make a normal coal trains? Maybe at most conjure coal to power it? If it runs on magic, why limit it to moving on the ground with a fixed rail?

No one would bitch if it was well thought out and cool.

I suggested a golem train but APPARENTLY that's not cool enough for some people
>>
>>96827645
Most likely because ground travel has many advantages that air travel lacks, like infrastructure that is easier to build and maintain and whose failures are easier to route around, for example. Basically, all the reasons we still use trains in real life despite having aircraft.

Why would you bother conjuring coal if you can use the same energy to power the train directly?

Player 1, going second:

Projects "You Fool" as an Energy, because it has a good Energy effect (an effect written upside down that only becomes accessible when the card is played as an Energy):

"Identify an Entity, Energy, or Avatar Influence: Nullify it."

Player 1 won't be using the Energy effect this turn cycle, instead they will tap it to Project the Structure "Information", because it is cheap and also has a very good Hand control effect.

Refer to: >>96827617 to read the effects of the cards.

Player 1, still in Main Phase 1, Invokes "Information's" effect:

"Identify a Hand: Reveal an Entity from it. You may Transmute it."

1.) Player 1 Identifies Player 2's Hand
2.) Then Identifies "Mephistopheles"
3.) and Transmute it (into an Energy).

This means that the card:
1.) Becomes public game knowledge.
2.) Is forced into the Energy Type while in Player 2's Hand.

The purpose of this is that "Mephistopheles" is a very powerful hand trap, and by Transmuting it into an Energy, its Entity effect can no longer be used, though it can still be played as an Energy.
>>
>>96827764
Because Structures don't conduct combat, there's nothing else Player 1 can do, so they pass.

Player 2 draws a "Katamari Ball" for their turn.

Player 2 knows that Player 1 can use "Information" as soon as they get Priority (it's a once per either player's turn effect), and that "Piedmon" is their last remaining Entity. To prevent Player 1 from doing this, their first use of Priority is going to be to get "Piedmon" Projected. Also, Piedmon is Player 2's only way of getting rid of Player 1's "Information" this turn.

I'd think mechanics for swordfighting and magic would be a good start.
>>
>>96825880
Typically, but not exclusively:
>Human-only PCs (carve-outs for Sword & Planet e.g. Martians of Barsoom).
>PCs do not/can not use magic.
>Focus on drama of the moment (personal), not world-saving adventures.
>Higher-order denizens (gods, aliens, demons) are unknowable and often immortal, and are not to be confronted (some exceptions apply, such as a demon inhabiting someone's body, the body can be destroyed but not the demon).
>Expansive variety of human cultures, drawn from historic examples.
>Deadly, but proficient, combat. PCs should be able to hew through many men in a single encounter, but are always just one misstep away from death themselves (High Attack Rating, Low HP/High Damage). This can be achieved a variety of ways, but I've always leaned towards a Wound Track rather than straight HP.
>Less focus than one would expect on mechanically-dense weapons and armour. A sword, a dagger, or a club, kills all the same. Likewise, a full harness, or just some leggings and a helmet, offers ample protection (for the PC).
>Optional: Some variety of Get Out of Jail Free mechanic. S&S heroes survive impossible scenarios, and from a literary perspective this is simply the author keeping their character alive. In the chaotic world of TTRPGs, things are less certain, so some variety of "you survived the impossible" I feel adds to the S&S aesthetic rather than detract from it. This can be achieved by mechanics such as Meta Currency, or a flat "Every PC gets one 'You survived imminent death' token".
>>
>>96827478
>swords and sorcery

>PCs do not/can not use magic

So just swords then?
>>
>>96827577
Swords & Sorcery typically refers to a setting whereby the heroes don't use magic because magic is inherently evil/corrupting/immoral. It should probably read as Swords VS Sorcery.
It's not a hard and fast rule, as with any genre people will project their own interpretations onto it.
I fall into the Conan camp of S&S, which eschews magic as evil. But if you're a Lankhmar fan then you would probably allow small amounts of magic like cantrips and such.

>if you're a Lankhmar fan then you would probably allow small amounts of magic like cantrips and such.
I was going to say this, Lankhmar and other S&S stories admit of the protagonists using minor magical spells or rituals (Kane and Elric are both powerful sorcerers but neither is a central example of the genre), so it should it should be an option for the PCs to have access to minor magic. It's probably best reserved for one character in the group, though, and shouldn't be thought of as a core element of character choice like it is in most fantasy games. Instead it should be weighted so the norm is that nobody has it.

if they made a witch elf coomer model, same size/price, how much would it outsell the SCE by? 10:1, 100:1, 1000:1?
>>
>>96827587
I don't even know who this character is. But GW isn't selling me on a fucking Stormcast statue, that's for sure. Maybe a Chaos lord or a cool Wight King, but not a ground marine.
>>
>>96827851
Generic witch elf model probably wouldn't sell that well, but a Morathi model would sell out in 5 minutes
>>96827854
I think if they had an especially well designed figure like Bastian Carthalos with some good background lore, it could sell well. But they're obviously not going to sell much with a boring character like Neave
>>
>>96827885
What if it's a generic witch elf but she has a fat ass?
>>
>>96827896
This is fine too

I remember playing 1e back in the day and wondered if 2nd edition is worth anything?

You can't have the sun being anything other than the sun. Helios, and Sol, and Khepri aren't real.

Invert everything this guy said and you will get the reality about the second edition.

It's trash made by the faggots who used to post on whitewolf forum.

This poster also voted for Biden most likely and wish Obama could still run for President.

Unplayable as written.

I also think that phasing out the Titan war (because not every mythology has a titan analogy or some stupid reason like that) was a grave mistake,

C'mon, you are being disrespectful to other people's culture anon! don't be so mean!!!
>>
>>96825552
I honestly can't tell if it's old-fashioned trolling or anon is 8 and just can't conceptualize of a setting more complex than Bluey.

I don't get how, in a world sacrificing ten doves to Bophades will help you get good business, Christianity managed to be the top religion in Europe and Colonialism even happened. Because I think in Darkest Africa and North America the tribals would be sacrificing to their gods, who are real and exist and have power to fuck shit up, and I don't think you're going to do shit to even a weak god with a black powder weapon. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit aren't real, as far as I understand, and if they are they aren't the top dogs the Bible makes them out to be. And even before that, why give up Zeus and Bophades or Odin and Thor for the fake news that is Jesus?

Going to go into detail about it or? I can understand from how bad supply is but apparently that's just how bandai games are & people haven't raised more of a ruckus about it. They did at least make it seem like there's an attempt at being better with the premium site products
Set wise one store I know is getting 24 boxes and simply a limit of "let others be able to get some" Another no clue on count but already plan for a proper # rather than an obtuse amount which enables whales. Which is what people at that one have joked about being an issue
Personally I like the simplicity of the game. Even the tournies want people to be quick with the 30min best of ones
Yet somehow there are slowplayers.
It's a mixed bag but if I could have proper time to play rather than work I have fun.

It doesnt feel like a turn based metaphor of mobile suit combat its too simple

Talents were a mistake. More specifically, Aria was a mistake.
>>
>>96827770
Talents didn't cause FaB's design mistakes. The specific words on the typeline can not cause poorly balanced cards. Doubly so when we also know most of FaB is developed per-hero not per-type.
If there were no talents at all, chances are good the worst designs would still exist.

Someone would still be in the dev room saying "lmao what if we just let runeblade do everything AND split damage AND at a good rate".
Someone would still have had the idea of "what if we make blue heavy heroes that ALSO have massive offensive overlap?"
Whatever dogshit is problematic about Lexi would still exist.
