>What is the NSR?
NSR is a subcategory of the OSR, it mostly follows the same play style but experiments further with the mechanics and settings

*have* a gm, a interesting setting, living world
*are* rules light, deadly
*and focus on* emergent narrative, external interaction and exploration

>What is this thread for?
This thread is for system, adventure, setting, mechanics, ongoing campaigns, anything that related to the *actual* game
POST ART ALSO, inspiration and for the tg threads

>What is this thread NOT for?
Meta discussions or drama of the games and its creators aka shadowboxing with twitter, reddit and the OSRG (frens with osrbros)

What do you do with disengaged players? My group has a couple of games a week. When I run, they seem totally uninterested in NPCs or any plot that does not directly involve them or their backstory. If another player has a plotline happening they only put in the minimum and don't talk to any characters. The group has been on a ship travelling with a group of five Marines for almost a year now. Those marines have had arcs and stories, and the players couldn't name one. The paladin couldn't even point to the one his kid brother had a crush on and constantly followed around on the ship.

As a player it's worse. The other GM has noticed much the same, saying I am the only one engaging, but I talk and roleplay with the group and do everything from revealing major secrets about big players in the story to saying we might have to kill the wizard and they don't react in any noticable way.

I'm out of ideas, what can I do here?

>>
>>96645688

>>
>>96645693
Only one? Be aspirational! Some day I will con a group into letting me take LoGaS off the shelf and give it a shot.
>>
>>96644452
The brother is a kid, the 'crush' is literally that NPC constantly following the marine around. If you write a character who's backstory involves him being invested in his family, I'm going to use the family. Oddly one of the most invested the players were was when another PC's daughter asked for help studies, and the party autismed over it for two hours then went with her to hand it in.

>>96644741
We did already have our 'one guy is a dick in RPGs' moment a while back. Asked the player to leave the games (though emphasized that he was still welcome to hang out, play videogames, and so on) he insisted that he be included in EVERY activity he wanted. Then threw a fit and left the group.

As for having that talk again, did it last night. One player got a little worked up at me for making it a group conversation, but after that burnt out we did make progress and (I hope) set expectations. They insisted they are working towards being fully engaged players, but I'm not sure myself or the other GM has the energy to run zombie sessions until they figure that out.

>>96645422
Every campaign is pitched to the group. Mine was the Empire building one where the players start with a ruined colony and work up. The other GM's was factional warfare and investigation. Both times players seemed hyped for it. The families I use in game were specifically asked for. They've been leading from the front, so there's no shortage of stabbing things.

>>96645526
Haven't played anyone's wife, put the estrogen down. I declined to play one players husband and kept him in the background while having her daughter be a character. Then the parents and siblings of another.

I am buying my first 40k full set, but I've already bought the starter paint set a while ago with Nuln oil and Leadbelcher so I have no problem painting the smurfs. What paints should I buy for my nids?
Could be Citadel, Could be army painter, I personally dont give a shit.

My condolences, I hope you recover soon.
>>
>>96627643
Apple Barrel Paints for $0.50 a color for base coat. Citadel washes for shading; a black wash and brown wash will do for most minis, but if you may want a red, pink, or some weird shit specifically for your nids. Rustoleum for primer; white will be fine for most minis, but you can save yourself a lot of time by getting whatever ivory color is on most of your nids and using that as part of your base coat.

If Apple Barrel paint wasn't good enough, then you wouldn't be on here asking for advice. Learn to paint. Then go spend more money on your fancy inks, mediums, and contrast paints.
>>
>>96627643
AK interactive are great general purpose acrylic paints.
ArmyPainter for their washes and speedpaint medium mixed with their washes for something to make those who use enamels and oils a reason to reconsider.

I am making my own medieval fantasy game. These are some of my goals:

>Emphatize slice of life scenes and allow for maximum worthless roleplay
>De-emphasize combat, specifically meaningless combats with 1d6 goblins constantly. Combat is Nice but many combat scenes are there just fillers for the fighters to use their feats. Combat is better when it makes sense to the situation and the plot, gratuitous grinding has tired me forever i think
>Spell hunting. Basically the wizards must get into dungeon-like places to catch more spells. This is a good way to fluff dungeons around them and to drive the party organically into them

The most challenging point is this last one:
>Make normal persons investing skill points into mundane professions balanced against investing them in combat or Magic

>>96642070
I tied "hero points" to downtime stuff, so you only get them back when you invest into your special interests.
Another (and cooler) way you could do this is tie the magic system directly to their skills, like a cobbler who can make special shoes that allow various effects like speed/flight/invisibility/stealth etc., or a songstress who can enchant people with her voice, or a gambler who can predict the future with his games of chance, or whatever. Of course that still leaves combat, but if you're gonna expect EVERYONE in the game to be fighting at some point then just decouple it from the customization options.

I get mine from everywhere 2bh, ttcombat is nice when spruced up a bit, official GW bits from starter boxes, few scratchbuilds from back when I had the time, bunch of stuff I printed
pic is 2 WIP projects, mostly printed stuff over a scratchbuilt frame. Not sure if I want to paint the inside of the columns and tiles cream or not because I kinda like how minis stand out against a gloomy backdrop.

Random Oddity: Color-blind. You can’t see the difference between red and green or blue and yellow.
>The pale knight bore the title of White Flame Blade, his renown gleaming as brightly as his steel. Yet beneath the acts of heroism lay a secret charred in brimstone. Unbeknownst to the villagers and nobles he protected, an infernal hand guided his strikes. The fiend who gifted him such mastery demanded no bloody tithes, no wicked bargains. It simply watched with delighted amusement at the little knight’s valiant play upon the world’s stage. A great jest, really.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, Judge Dredd, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void, Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenotactics...
