The Great Hunger Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. They have all been collected here for your convenience:

I'd go all-in on 1920s decadence (suits, tommy guns, barely-disguised alcohol trade under the guise of giving out red wine) given that the first US Megachurch was born in 1923; you can also go further back and go on the Spiritual Revival in the 1800s that brought about the Mormons

Why did Dungeons and Dragons styled tabletop roleplaying take until the 1970s to invent? I know they had tabletop wargames before that as far back as the 17th century, but what was so hard about making the next step to personalized characters going on adventures with stats?

Die, paper, pens/pencils, figures, etc are all cheap to manufacture. Minor nobility or even knights would have access to all they needed, they could even store stats on a chiseled piece of rock, stack counters as a record, or use an abacus if they were really broke. They had wargaming with figurines way back stretching centuries, but they lacked the imagination to take it a step further with a full adventure?

Is it really an egg of Columbus situation where it's so intuitively obvious when discovered, but hard to actually discover? Or was it just sheer bad luck in that it remained undiscovered for so long?

We've had board games, and parlour games, and improv storytelling, and theater of varying complexity. Kids playing games of pretend and having certain characters they wanted to act as is a somewhat old concept too. However, I don't think there's ever been anything recorded that feels like a definitive, concrete example of a sort of proto-roleplaying game. Murder Mystery dinner games come close, but it still feels like the actual structure and concept of a group of people gathering regularly to collectively play or be guided through an adventure or a narrative premise, or something like that, didn't truly exist until wargames became a thing, and then got closer once Braunstein hit a very small scene.

We've had roleplaying for ages. Medieval tournaments were hosted with Arthurian themes, with entrants costuming themselves and taking on the character of various Arthurian knights, as one example.

Welcome back, revered clerk of the Administratum.
Your efforts in compiling the information on [Vokaris Sector] and its eight subsectors have been received with satisfaction, and thus you are encouraged to continue your holy assignment to collect information about this sector in our grand Imperium.
A brief reminder that as data comes in via the servitors around you, you will have to compile it and make this sector whole again.
May the God Emperor continue to guide you clerk Anon.

Hello there, Anons of /tg/. If anyone is still interested in this fun project, here is the whole sector - updated with the discovered planets so far - where we can continue to create together, using the planet generator found on 1d6chan.

which may explain why it is a cemetery world, I guess no one realizes there is still xenos on the planet otherwise they would at least have a militia

but apparently not dangerous enough to bother having any sort of armed forces

>no genetic quirks

>Many of the planet’s inhabitants are fanatical about a particular recreational sport

We didn't get any of the funnier results, but it did help add some nuance.

We should do these rolls for the other planets, and also do the defense and adeptus rolls we skipped on certain planets.

Also maybe redo some of the population rolls like >>96642468 suggested.
>>
>>96647951
Did you add the -6 to the d100 rolls due to the planet being at a low imperial tech level?

Chroma run locally with a prompt like: 'a still from a video of a mass of rotting flesh and limbs and organs crawling in front of a dark gas station at night. Motion blur' and the use image to video with klingai with the same prompt minus the part about it being a still. Pretty simple. Other good tricks are 'cctv footage', 'ring doorbell footage', 'camera flash' or 'illuminated by a flashlight'.

You could probably do the video part locally with WAN, but personally my PC shits the bed when it tries to load the text encoder on the CPU. I'm sure there's a better way of doing that.

>10 days later a third corpse comes up in the same region, the story of triplet John Does starts making the rounds in the local newspapers
>players are called in 8 days later when a DG friendly luckily stumbles upon a fourth exact same corpse before anybody else

no thanks, I think it's pretty settled plasma has safe and dangerous, and moreover I despise bookkeeping on weapons in games over like a dozen models
even if I can handle my army and keeping tabs, there's no guarantee my opponent can on his, and games where you have to constantly remind your opponent what they can/can't do- and worst of all, if they misremember something of your army and suddenly feel cheated over it

I like one use gear and abilities, but big games with lots going on is a nightmare to track with reloads
unless it's like a historical and that coordination is a core mechanic of the game, then it's really fun

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, Judge Dredd, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,

Retro pulp sci-fi? I can only think of Hydra Miniatures, both have a ranges of pulp sci-fi soldiers plus a game to play them in, plus a space-ship combat game set in the same setting (I've never played either though). They say "all miniatures are 32mm (heroic 28mm scale) and cast in lead-free pewter" for the scale and material. 7 factions, so a good range of this and that, lads and ladies as well.

Anvil Industries has some resin pulp weapons iirc.

I love Shieldwolf's space buns, but fuck me I hate getting the arms to go together. I wish it came with instructions.

House Silverbeam are known to be elves of a more voluptuous form, with famously dark skin. Now, while most houses of elves can record a great military triumph for the source of their colors and emblem, House Silverbeam instead used them to reference their unity. The red and green background and the silver leaf at the center represents the union of their founder Lady Tylnel and a man of the Horrov tribe(no one knows whom, maybe a prince, maybe the chief himself, but there's no royal goods in their resting chamber) and the blending of culture.
Elves of Silverbeam are famous for their cuisine, heavily taken from the Horrov, and particularly their seafood.
Silverbeam elves also from some quirk live longer than most elves, no one's sure why. So these long blissful lives with peace and good food makes these women reticent to risk themselves in warfare, and this they famously wear heavy armor, maille, cuirass, and particular horrific iron masks. All to be as safe as possible and be done with the sordid business and back home.
This is the excuse I came up with to keep buying Raging Hero dark elves because I love the sculpts.
