"I like games with a lot of depth. I like games in which you can dive in; games in which you can discover something (for example a new world); games in which you can try out different strategies; games which surprise you even though you have played them several times." - Wolfgang Kramer

This general encompasses all board game genres - Eurogames, Ameritrash, Ameritreasure, Fillers, Party, Abstracts, Wargames, and especially the game that one anon is autistic about at this very moment.

TQs:
- What's a game mechanism you initially hated but later came to appreciate?
- What game do you think is overrated, and what similar game would you recommend instead?
- What's a board game opinion or piece of advice that you completely disagree with?

>Musical themes
What about games like Hitster or Hey yo where listening to music, beat is integral part of the game?
Besides in euros like Lacriomosa, or roll&write On tour or other games where the theme is basically just there. Like in other games, in Anachrony you are literally not time traveling back, in Agricola you do not actually grow food - you just move wooden meeples. So musical theme is fine but you can implement music as part of the game.

half the patrons at the FLGS are blacks who are into YuGiOh a bit too much, but the constant yelling does make for a good marketplace atmosphere in our games of Chinatown. Got one of them to play with us last weekend since he forgot his deck at home and others won't lend him theirs, he wasn't too hot at the math side of the game but he was competent enough and a charismatic deal maker on top of that, dude's got some promise and could go pro if he wanted.

That’s just businesses trying to take in more money by appealing to a larger consumer base (browns). Doenst work though since browns don’t have the genes to enjoy or excel in board games at large

But real world experience does not automatically lead to good, autistic military simulation rules.
Autism and interest in military however, does.

You're making shit up. Hypnotic Tongue Technique and Sandstorm-Wind Attack are flexible charms, dicetricks and +1 willpower once/story are completely inflexible. Wound-Mending Care Technique vs Wholeness-Restoring Meditation is an example of your argument of 'flexible = longer but also better' being correct and even in that case it's worthwhile to do. Get over yourself.

Doesn't at least one god of the dwarves unquestionably exist, too? I seem to remember he shows up at some point.

>>96658109
The ending, as in the very last chapters of the last book, after the big bad's defeat, was actually pretty interesting. The victors immediately go right back to hating each other, the elves and dwarves force a traumatized, easily-manipulated black woman onto the throne of the Empire instead of the embittered rightful heir so that they can keep mankind under their control, Eragon and all the dragons just fuck off into the wilderness, and you can just tell the whole continent is going to erupt into war pretty fucking soon. It's quite bitter overall.

I am okey with there being the best or "tournament" list, what I do not understand is why they want to kill every other way to play.
Don't they want to sell, stuff like despoilers or assault space marines? The bike guys cry all the time about their bikes. Why can't there be a detachment to make bikes and jetbikes actualy worth taking. Want a terminator army? Here you go a detachment that lets you run terminators with either venguard 1 or line 1. What is most mind blowing is that they did have it already . Pricks of the Legion wasn't the best way to play any space marine legion, but if someone wanted to run just termis they could do it.
>>
>>96657920
Anon genuinely have you even read the book
>>
>>96658246
which book. the core book? yes. The loyalist marine rules book, yest to that too. No one here plays mechanicus, custodes or army, so I do not know about their army. What I do see on a weekly basis was armies going from transition , trying to fit your 2.0 army in to 3.0 to every legion running, more or less the same army. And that sucks. In 2.0 we had people rite armies and those were different, sometimes very different. Now in 3.0 it doesn't matter if you play ultramarines, fists, RG, DA every army spams tacticals, AV14, rapiers with phospex etc.

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, Judge Dredd, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void, Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

How does wargames illustrated work, fellas? On their website the October issue only has fireflies sprues as an option to order, but I want to get a couple of the staltruppen. We'll have to see how much influence he tries to press. Right now, he and his company are just handling production and distribution, with Bryan Steele still on as the game designer, while manufacturing is done by Trenchworx.

As for how the new edition plays, if you haven't seen the rules yet, its very much a mix of 1st Ed. and Dark Age. LoS rules are funky, though.

The Fiends embrace the already disturbed nine times out of ten. Degenerate thought masked as inhuman metamorphosis is their culture, they also exalt the physical as divine, which makes them unusually inclined to displays of sexuality so vulgar it makes Toreador balk. Oh, and they also have a culture where it's considered an accomplishment if you horrify normal people, and giant freaky dicks is an easy and cheap way to do that.

Or... that theory I keep hearing that they've all got some disease in their blood is true.

there are actual ways to cheat diablerie my clan knows a lot about that. but for you diablerizing a higher gen brings no benefit besides possibly learning their disciplines and risk of being possessed. the only reason one might do it was if they were addicted to diablerie.
>>
>>96658182
If you know where to hunt, you don't need to target homeless. Hobos are all filled with diseases and drugs anyway.

Either hunt right after sundown or right before sunup. The latter is far more dangerous. These are when normal mortals are the most active. Even these nights with club and bar culture dying joggers are relatively plentiful and a good amount of people still eat out on occasion. Stick near where mortals in your area congregate after work and you can easily find one to isolate and drain without them making it weird. If you get them from behind, that plus the kiss will make the entire thing a haze for them.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: Which rule do you constantly see shilled but always thought it was shit?

First, for more mundane articles: pyramid article about scrhodinger backpacks
second for "this is totally an advantage" stuff, use modular abilities. For more batman-like behavior, add the limitation "requires prep time"

Flexible/ass-pull gadget abilities can be handled a few different ways
>Wildcard Abilities (Supers): Buy an ability at x4 the cost, can use any ability that costs no more than the wildcard ability's normal base cost if it makes sense; for Batman, a core advantage for bullshit gadgets might be Gadgeteer or high Wealth, as long as the abilities used this way have a Gadget limitation
>Gizmo (or other retroactive abilities from the Pyrmaid #3/35 article "Fortunately, I Saw This Coming"), plus Meta-Tech to give abilities a cash cost

Yes, if a human wanted to shut down the archive they could. But I can also just rebuild the archive, make a new link, and post it in the next thread, spending a couple of minutes of my time. I probably don't care enough to beat him if he focuses his impressive levels of autism at the problem, but other anons can easily spawn more repositories than one autist can shut down. In the extreme case, even if SJG and all their fans declare all-out-war on the effort, we can just upload everything to Anna's Archive or one of the other serious pirate e-book libraries. That makes it slightly harder to download the books, but almost impossible to remove them.
(Actually, come to think of it, we should do that anyway; go ahead and post stuff to AA).

The reason I make the links obscure to machines is that there do seem to actually be bots which hunt for archives on imageboards in order to take them down.
