>>96764756that's actually pretty based
sp, we can accept that the nsrg concept doesn't work or will we keep pushing it hoping it becomes a thing?
>>96767411I think we might have to come to terms with the fact that the ACKShills will try to kill anything they decide is a threat, even if they're just being insane.
>>96767425if anything they were keeping the thread alive./tg/ has a strong anti-nsr crowd for some reason (some of it is identitarian culture war, but I think there's a lot of random pet peeves too), I usually avoid discussing nsr here. I think that if the thread kept being around more people would go>oh, that's a thing? I'll give it a trybut as we are now you can tell when one of the 4 people interested comes and goes. And there's only so much we can discuss, if you have under 10 regular users that's at best 4 sessions a week to discuss (if there's any interest in that system).I think it's best to keep it at stand alone posts when we have something interesting to talk about. It sucks to lose the chance to bring new people to games you like, but it's not really happening here.
>>96767461No, they immediately poisoned this thread. Being the only people who can tolerate each other's presences is kind of their defining quality. The previous threads were fine, and that's probably what made them get so mad this time around that they had to be such poisonous little shits right from the get-go.
Trench Crusade General - /trench/Let's Make A Warband Generator Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. >>96766693Not the entire appeal of the game, but kitbashing (using any minis, not just gw ones) is a big part of it and actively encouraged by the devs.
>>96766693>isnt the entire appeal of trench crusade to kitbash your minis for this game? Not all, but it's a lot. It means that most armies will not resemble each other, and it's kinda a treat to see.

Are they right? Is magic science and is science magic? >>96759662
>>96767395Yes. “Lol it’s beyond your understanding it’s magic I ain’t gotta explain shit” is just nuance, or lolmystery. Nothing actually goes against reality, technically, if it’s real / it happened. The supernatural is more or less meaning “we don’t understand it well enough”. Even the Hermetic mages *understand* their shit. It’s all how reality works to them. Ascension is a perfect surrealist game that pokes at the changing perceptions of reality throughout history. I wish we had more magic-by-any-other-name terms, because mad science isn’t the only one.
>>96767422> I wish we had more magic-by-any-other-name terms, because mad science isn’t the only one.Don’t the choristers call their magic ‘miracles’ or some shit? They’re not dumb enough to think it’s actually different, tho.

>>96767311>Brawny types are rarely strategicI think Kaoru just took a look at Fumiko's chest and forgot everything else about her. Due to how Fumiko interacts with people, she may give an aloof and mindless air, but she is probably the second smartest member of the Fujiwara-Senki, and one of the most self-conscious and aware. It will be nice when Kaoru discovers that side of Fumiko.
>>96767455Would be cool. Keep in mind that Kaoru has limited information about the Fujiwara Senki in particular and only speculates that they act together at all, so she’s bound to get things wrong because it’d be no fun if she knew everything about everyone right off the bat. Also, with that “brawny types are rarely strategic remark” Kaoru meant that someone can be strong AND smart, but most athletic types are irritable or too violent to think during fights. Also, she has seen very few people’s Idolons for her to include them in her contingency plans, so she has no idea about the Mugendramon at Fumiko’s side. Damn, I didn’t know you knew ball with that one, anon.

Anyone got a recommendations for a basic paint kit from other manufacturers? In the process of getting rid of my GW paints due to the dogshit pot design and it feels like the new mixes they use start to dry up a week after opening the seal.
>>96767332You don't really need a basic kit if you already have paints, the GW paints you do have should tide you over as you replace the colors you need with new ones gradually. Unless you wanna just hard swap, but that can be expensive and only do it if you wanna.
>>96764780>airbrushing lacquer is massively different than acrylic as wellcan you explain how this would cause stylistic differences? the one thing I can think of is the attention span it requires. with airbrushing you need to budget enough time to at least do a single color for the entire kit or it's a waste of getting everything ready, but with brush painting you can work for 15 minutes or 5 hours and it doesn't make much difference.>people who just want their center piece of an army to look good from 5ft away is much different than someone that wants it to look good on close inspection for photographs or tournaments.there was this guy from a previous thread>>96718948calling it "slap chop" or only wanting it to look good from 5 feet away isn't giving the paint job enough credit.>>96765308what part isn't true? in the last 3 or 4 threads I've seen>people who don't want to drill their barrels>a guy saying using an airbrush is cheating>a guy struggling with an acrylic wash because he didn't have an enamel or oil one>lots of talking about painting techniques like layering and blendingComment too long. Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to TSR-era D&D, derived systems, and compatible content.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons as played in the game's first decade — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching meta-plots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>96767325Oh don't get me wrong, Anon, in terms of setting concept I have no trouble understanding it, although for me personally the divine bloodline stuff conflicts with how I'd want a low fantasy medieval setting to work. That's just me though, mind you, I totally understand how those mechanics tie into the self-conception of the medieval nobility and can create a more psychologically authentic-feeling setting that way. It's just the mechanical integration aspect I was wondering about.
>>96767210I've never understood why you think you can pretend that this general is different. You keep trying every possible shady fucking "tactic" to get your way, and it's insane.Appeal to authority? You suck Gygax's dick like you're poisoned and you think the antidote's in it.Appeal to tradition? You are quick to describe the "ONE TRVE WAY TO PLAY", but only by ignoring all the evidence that contradicts you.Argumentum ad Populum? Even without most people actually agreeing with you, you put so much energy into crying that everyone agrees with you, and everyone who disagrees with you is one person. Argumentum ad Tantrum? You have a meltdown persistently whenever anyone hits one of your triggers. This general is like all the other generals on 4chan. It's tied to a topic, not to the cultish concept only held by a tiny clique, especially when that tiny clique is completely disassociated with reality and the outside world. You keep doing everything in your power to try and turn this general into your personal echo chamber, and then trying to indoctrinate any unsuspecting newcomers into your cult, and all from the stance of pure arrogance built on a foundation of nothing but fallacies.
>>96767344Your lies don't even hold up against checking wikipedia.
>>96767393That's what I'm curious about as well.I'll admit I don't like the way they've done bloodline as a stat in and of itself. But I could see it working potentially.https://arbrethil.substack.com/p/acks-birthrightHave a copy.

>>96767299>We're talking shit like the Interrogation Investigator's "No Cause For Alarm" triple-action reducing Frightened by 1 on nearby allies, which would have happened at the start of their next turn anyway, and even only on a successful skill check.Frightened reduces EVERYTHING, AC included, by that number, and some enemies can hit an entire party with Frightened for almost free. Mass dispelling of debuffs is incredibly valuable. If you came from other D&D type games, you may not understand how much impact those small numbers have on overall success. The best buff in the game gives a +1 to attack/damage for a single action, and has lifelong application.
>>96767299>If someone's frightened, it seems like their best bet is to just stand in place and keep attacking since it doesn't even penalize that for some reason (only "checks and DCs").frightened is one of those "penalizes literally everything you do", being frightened reduces your attack, your AC, your saves, everything. Something like No Cause For Alarm is kind of ass, but if you have an ally who is frightened 2 or 3, using something to reduce that by 1 You have correctly identified that most of the time a lot of the more situational +1/-1 shit is stupid and lame, while the stuff that applies to the most common checks (or just the most shit in general) is usually what ends up good. Bard's being able to just slap a +1 attack on the entire team is evergreen.>maybe it's like 5e where everyone agrees playing at level <5 is generally unfun/incomplete.Pretty much, yes. I blame Buhlman loving shanktown.
>>96767342>you're still likely to fail because something that big is probably going to have higher Fortitude than usualFortitude and reflex, anon. Bring able to use them at all against larger creatures, with a skill based on a nominally well used attribute (and a bonus besides) actually works well in your favor. This is before any buffs or debuffs the party gives you.
>>96767350>>96767366>>96767390Alright, that's good to hear then. I can believe that the degrees of success can make those small modifiers more impactful in practice than my common sense would gut-react for d20 rolls (since I know objectively it's more complicated than "+1 = 5% more likely to succeed" and probably more like "+1 = 20% likely to bump you up a success level"). Just gotta focus on the modifiers that are general like that instead of "on Tuesday during a full moon."
>>96767399Unfortunately this is still paizo and they love printing endless dogshit, which makes how generally fun and solid the foundation is really frustrating. Very manageable from the GM side though, and if you have a consistent circle you can probably accumulate optional rules or houserules to taste. I don't think you have to play RAW to understand how things work for when you change it, but doing so drastically reduces the time it takes.

>>96762322Rogue Trader (Revolver Ocelot)
>>96764192Having a look at it now and considering options:Rogue Trader's ability to pull wargear cards (minus character specific) from anywhere could definitely make things interesting if you want to really tool them up in a weird way. Or just an unexpected combo. But it's also just very handy for characterful bits. The Preacher character could be quite interesting, cheap and comes with a conversion field (handy blinding effect in some cases) and a wargear card so you can probably do something cheeky with that but also just have them for utility. They get some cheap scouts which is good for just a variety of things even if they're not particularly killy being only humans. And for the general wargear list; no power fists and no power armour in general wargear is interesting but you do get shuriken pistols and catapults which are always nasty, could be given to a character. You don't get many Rogue Trader specific units, and I would want to take them and tool them up a bit for flavour, and definitely make use of the support weapons, but I think the bulk of a force would be cherry picking some bits from the Imperial Guard, Space Marine armies and agents, like grab a tooled up assault squad or some veterans with an autocannon for a really solid adaptable core unit, or maybe some stormtroopers, an assassin, that kind of thing, use a bunch of tarantulas for the heavy weapons... It's kind of difficult to think what'd work really well together with so many options on hand but there's bound to be some good ones. But also potentially a little too specialised, a lot of the army is still (unless you really lean into the Marines part) basic humans and will need some fodder to screen the specialist units. Maybe thinking of it like a guard army with a bit of extra edge/space marine allies is the key? Assuming you focus on taking all the optional Rogue Trader specific units that is. Lot of options.
