Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. Humans are the only ones who know how to fight/love sex/survive/etc. How can we save the genre or reinvent it so it isn't so stale?

Welcome to /2eg/, a thread dedicated to all things 2nd Edition D&D related - including settings, lore, modules, and derived systems (Alternity, Buck Rogers XXVc, For Gold and Glory, Hackmaster, Myth and Magic, and more).Since 2e draws heavily from earlier editions, older modules are welcome too. Other media derived from AD&D (such as Infinity Engine video games) also has a home here. It's what you play, not how you play it. RAW or homebrew, as long as your table is having fun, there's no wrong way to play. There's a surprisingly complete 2e fan wiki for rules stuff, it's excellent for quick reference:https://adnd2e.fandom.com/wiki/Advanced_Dungeons_%26_Dragons_2nd_Edition_Wikiad&d 2e archiveaHR0cHM6Ly93ZWIuYXJjaGl2ZS5vcmcvd2ViLzIwMjUwMjA0MTczNzUwL2h0dHBzOi8vdGhlLWV5ZS5ldS9wdWJsaWMvQm9va3MvcnBnLnJlbS51ei9EdW5nZW9ucyUyMCYlMjBEcmFnb25zL0FEJkQlMjAybmQlMjBFZGl0aW9uLw==Remember to keep things civil.Thread Question - why the 2e hate?
>>97821765>the fact they want in OSR general proves that 2e cannot survive on its own, just not good enough of a systemI disagree. There's shitloads to talk about in relation to 2e, mainly the settings and fluff side of things.I mean let's be frank, 3.5 is mechanically dogshit and that's got a general going that's been here since day 0.
>>97821719I mean, as I said before here (>>97821046), I run a classic-style OSR sandbox using 2e. I'll be honest in that I've never really been especially convinced for any of the arguments posters in /osrg/ give for the existence of a hard line between 2e and the OSR. I also understand not wanting to change the thread back to its previous, arguably more permissive OP, because that would feel like capitulating to a troll.I agree that most of 2e's products are intended for a very different play style from 1e, but that's not a hard rule. 2e does have adventures that work quite well in the classic style (read Kingdom of the Ghouls or Mud Sorcerer's Tomb and tell me you don't get excited about placing those as locations in your hexcrawl). A lot of those great 2e settings are also well suited for the classic OSR style. I ran a killer hexcrawl in Dark Sun for a few months! In my eyes, there's enough permiability there that more emphasis should be placed on what can be shared rather than drawing a hard line in the sand. The setting emphasis ain't a bad idea though. In an ideal world, maybe we'd have something closer to a /old school dungeon crawler general/ and an /old school setting general/, but that's not going to happen with everyone dug in like they are right now.
These trolls putting on a play is pretty pathetic, because, at the end of the day, no matter what they say in their posts or how hard or much they lie, this board doesn't care. There is no singular entity that opposes them. There is no committee, no leadership, no communication beyond what is said on this board. Just individuals seeing what the trolls did and do while those trolls expect people to believe anything they say despite everything they've done to try and decieve people in the past. It's like there's always a new low to them to be discovered.
>>97821774>I've never really been especially convinced for any of the arguments posters in /osrg/ give for the existence of a hard line between 2e and the OSR.See, now this is an actual discussion we can have (So long as we both ignore the screeching of the autist who is going to get very upset about us having it), I posted here >>97819768 about gold for XP and how 2e changed it.Yeah I know it's an optional rule, but I do think 2e incentivises dick punching and story crunching too much, to the detriment of the more flexible structure of a traditional OSR campaign. For the record I'd absolutely leave a setting like Dark Sun up on cinderblocks to get parts for an OSR campaign. But you can't look me crooked in the eye and say with a straight face that anything in Beyond the Prism Pentad, Black Flames (Lmao, enjoy your poison shitheads) or the design approach to Valley of Dust and Fire is a good fit.Which is a shame because from where it stands, I can see a version of Valley of Dust and Fire that'd fit perfectly, concept wise, in a classic OSR sandbox, a high level dungeon that's meant to require months, years even, of preparation if you're going to even get to it, let alone face its master. But it's focus lies elsewhere, even insisting right at the end that no you shouldn't let the party take on the Dragon no matter how well prepared they are because that'd fuck up The Story of the setting.I just think they're different enough to need separate threads. But I can at least respect where you're coming from anon and I'm glad to hear the argument being made by an actual human being rather than queefed out of a cunt for once.
>>97821699>I'm all ears to hear alternativesThe schizo will keep on schizoing, that's a given. There's nothing we can do or say to make him go away. The only three options that have been proposed are1) Keep making this /2eg/.2) Trying to create a more general general along the lines of /todd/.3) Join the schizo's army and go to war with /osrg/, trying to force them to discuss 2e, or creating generals also called /osrg/ but with a modified OP.I have ZERO interest going to schizo retard war, so you can count me out for option (3). I'm fine with both (1) and (2), and will keep posting in either or both threads when they're up.If there's a fourth option I have missed, I'd like to hear it as well.

>>97820399If you guys are playing relatively RAW, it is pointless. The transitions in the succession campaign are very poorly balanced (what a shock!) and moving from Cinderak to Temenos you guys should all just reset gangs, or at the very least do something like rehiring gang members ar 1250+400c. Despite your outlier scenario Cinderak isn't deadly enough to warrant the 2000c starting lists, and any new gangs joining in Temenos start with 1000+400. The gang rating and even crew differences will be in the 1000s for just standard gangs, not even considering new joinees or your situation, or the characters randomly joining up. The move from Temenos to Jardlan is much smoother as those are both 1000+400, but even then if you play RAW any continuing gang will just be radically higher rating compared to a starting gang. Why a continuing gang also gets 250c on top of everything else when joining into the next campaign is beyond comprehension.

>>97821769>No, by refusing contact with intentional media you deny yourself purpose in the first place. You're emulating the idea of a character rather than reinterpreting it, in the same way a cargo cult makes a radar dish out of straw.um no, purpose comes from the person, the ai emulates, the person uses it with purpose>What a bizzare accusation for you to make when you are advocating for a machine that thinks for you?this is your projection, i'm saying it's possible to use ai without allowing it to think for you yet you seem convinced that it's impossible, so the point stands>Also thats not helpful for searching by art style, medium or content, yes it is, you just follow a bunch of artists and filter out recommendations, then you have the art you want and never see ai art on it>it doesnt change the fact that our lives are now harder, not easierspeak for yourself, the adage that it's the fate of the stupid to have difficult lives applies to you pretty well here
I used AI to generate character tokens for an online game I had to prepare in less than 6 hours on a laptop where I didn't have my folder of saved character art. It did its job, the results were lame, didn't really matter.
>>97818204AI is just a tool. You can read up all you want, all your creativity and knowledge are going to come out one way because that's how you process it. AI can have the same knowledge and give you a different spin, you start from that and develop again to have something you wouldn't have thought of. You can get the same or better result talking with other people, yes, but good luck finding decent ones that share your hobby, knowledge and have points of view that are relevant and worth working from.
A thread for everything Dragons. What is the best kind of Dragons for a game. Just the standard, firebreathing scally Dragon? Or is it better for a game to give your players variety?
>>97705547I found the writing to be lackluster. It reads like a Disney Channel original series with simpleton characters and villains too comically villainous to be taken very seriously. I like dragons, but I wasn't willing to go past the first book. Things may improve after that, but I don't feel like I'm missing out.
>>97812205>>97812672>>97813749Other dragons are a given. I was thinking more in terms of empires, civilizations. Masses of creatures that can exist as long as dragons and rival them in power in their own way, not necessarily being significantly supernatural.Guess I'm trying to write a huge adult dragon as I would an adventurer: what kind of rivals, challenges and quests can he face without it being a straightforward high power magical creature or heroic character. As well as not escalating into all out war with armies.Like giants are pretty good for that. Fae or high power magical creatures seem too wild, momentary challenges.Sentient gryphons or harpy civs perhaps?
>>97817879Ok, not neccessary an adversary or opponent. Something i can see are Dragon hunters (Knight Order or barbarians)Harpies are good. I wouldnt make them civ but like a bird flock. >>97819387It was almost impossible to actually just bullshit things together in 4e unless you had a good understanding of what worked and why it worked. You couldn't, say, forget how bloody it worked or just fudge grabbing because it was incredibly important how those actually functioned. The vast majority of tables running other editions basically only remember a handful of core mechanics, and that's okay because the game is basically barely designed past that. andNot only that, it's really hard to Homebrew for 4e. If you want to make a new bullshit class in other versions, you probably can and nobody will notice too much if it's really good or really bad unless they are good at the game. In 4th edition, it will be incredibly obvious that you don't get how the game works if you just slap dash things that sound good together.

What's wrong with people in this industry? Does this industry only attract retards or what? It seems that way because only DND has created an official online service, while the rest believe that Internet is something secondary in the 21st century.

>>97821970First - have a normal online store and online service for the game, it's the 21st century for fuck sake. Second - don't make the bare bones system, most people dont have time to make monsters, NPCs, campaigns, adventures, econters, etc. for a new game, these are the tasks of the authors. Never stop making new content. Third - try to conduct an advertising campaign to the best of your ability. This also includes novelizing your setting, literally all the big players on the market are successful solely thanks to tons of books written about their universe and other multimedia. If you want to make miniatures, also include miniatures ready to play out of the box, don't listen to stupid faggots who built their entire identity around miniatures. I'm not saying you can completely ignore them, just have common sense and give people have a choice - those who just want to play should buy ready-made miniatures, those who want to do everything with their own hands should buy bits, it will increase your audience. And if it's all too hard and too much work for you, then change your mentality and tell yourself that as long as your project is making some money, you're successful. Or even tell yourself that you're successful simply because you released your system, who cares, it's your life.
