Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97665641Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: pastee.dev/p/sp2Mdb5Ihttps://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator/wbi/: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TWorldbuilding Hub: https://discord.com/invite/wGjxK3YThe Writer's Forge: https://discord.com/invite/CUxHxWqTira: https://discord.com/invite/f52W6KgDawn of Victory: https://discord.gg/hUAynC3wConlangerama: https://discord.com/invite/ceKjZBr2jCComment too long. >>97835314It's just something that exist in the background. It isn't a focus in my setting. There are some fairly advanced applications of glass, like it being a information storage medium, but that is because the tech level of my setting is intentionally all over the place.
So I started writing a historical chronicle as a way to populate my setting with towns, castles, and significant political dynasties. The first part covered 6 pages. Now I'm at 30 pages of just chronicle, covering 3 different wars and the time in-between. I know that that is all I want to write about the backstory, but how do I stop making it so long? Each war just takes longer and longer because as the kingdom grows in size and takes more territory and gains more capabilities, the wars it fights grow bigger too.
>>97834974I doubt it, but I can't say I actually know for sure. Even with megafuna farming and raising livestock still would be a far more consistent source of food then hunting ever could provide.
>>97835913Point still stands that the setting can be used for more than dark fantasy.

>>97837975Centaur-poster is a vital part of the /slop/ ecosystem. When the thread languishes, because the TT has failed to generate enough engagement to fill the image limit, he arrives to march us on towards the next thread. Like the termites and fungi of the forest that eat away at dead trees to make room for the next generation, the centaurs are necessary to maintain a healthy thread.
>>97838358Interesting way to put it
>>97838358A healthy thread is not a thread half-filled with low-resolution, low-effort turboslop.
Does anyone have experience on running two systems simultaneously? I want to inject dungeon crawls with investigative mysteries and the prospect of characters going insane. I figured CoC and D&D would be a good place to start, because I want to move toward a bigger idea I had but need practice.
>>97830819> SimultaneouslyNo. But I have homebrewed a system that's a mix of two. And I have had a game where two different core mechanics were used alternatively. What you describe seems to be the first one. What I would do is find a core system that does what you want your heroes to do most of the time. Kill monsters, open trapped doors, etc. Make sure it needs the least alterations possible, so if you are going to go the Eldritch Horrors' way, no DnD/PF/DH for a game in the 1950s. For a game more like Darkest Dungeon, you go full steam ahead. Then, you find a game that does the mechanics you wanna tack on it the best, and do just that. IDEALLY, for the sake of consistency, you try to blend the two.So let's say you want a Darkest Dungeon game, you may want convert PF 1st to introduce CoC elements, you should use CoC horrors and Sanity, but instead of having a Sanity stat, you could alter Wisdom to serve there. What you could do is multiply a character's Wisdom Score by 5% to obtain a Sanity score that should range from 40% (nat 8) to 90% (nat 18). When a character takes Sanity damage, for each 5% hit, the character takes 1 Wisdom damage that can only be healed with downtime, exactly like the CoC rules tell you. When a character takes X hits, it can receive temporary insanity the same way. And learning Eldritch (or even just Arcane) spells erodes one's sanity.
>>97830819Are you stupid or something? You're just talking about mixing two different genres or styles of play, you're not talking about two different game systems. Unless you are literally talking about merging those two game systems in which case I think you're fucking stupid
>>97838704>you're talking about running two different systemsyeah, that's the topic of the thread
>>97839045lol hater btfo
>>97830819I do not recommend doing two systems at once. Whatever effort to kludge two different rulesets together with some bridge for mechanics is infinitely worse than just homebrewing some addons to one system to do what you need it to do. From the sounds of it, stapling some investigative and mental distress rules onto a dungeon crawler of choice would be your best bet. That said, D&D is not the best choice for this style of game, as its own system mechanics don't really lend themselves to the stressful experience of CoC's going-crazy-because-shit-stopped-making-sense.
I always hear about the stir this caused, and recently about how bad or redeemable it is. I'm not certain about it myself because I dabbled with 3e and then got into 5e, never paid much attention to the scene during that entire era. What does /tg/ think of the system?
>>97838370Imagine starting a sentence with imagine.
>>978391065e is a simple 3e, it's a great asset to onboard newcomers to RPGs.
>>97839106Also if you want to homebrew 4e, forget about it. Everything is locked down like fort knox. homebrewing in 5e is much much easier than other editions. Never underestimate wiggle room.
>>97839173Its not though. Its genuinely a bad game to teach new people in all ways except it being D&D brand and thus what normies instantly crawl to. 3e was dogshit as well. We should not be teaching new people any edition of D&D.>>97839184This is a good thing. 99.99% of homebrew is dogshit and people only want to use it to either break the game and bash a square peg into a round hole by making a system bend a direction its not supposed to.

>>97837598There are better ways to go about using AI this way. You went head on with zero research using the lowest common denominator tools to achieve it and you're somehow surprised you had terrible results. Instruct LLMs are terrible at creative endeavors, and AI doesn't have unlimited context memory, so you can't just keep going forever expecting full cognizance of the entirety of your campaign. You're going to have to work with back-end APIs at the very least if you want to have a remote chance at being successful at this.
>>97837618>ChatGPT is bad at being a DM because it cannot improvise, it can only reiterate that which exists.TTRPGs are reiterating the cliches of a given genre on the fly. There are plenty of reasons as to why current LLMs can't DM as well as human can, but this is not one of them.

>>97792049i've loved playing bardarians forever
>>97831241I always said I'd never ban non-infinite-combo shit as a DM but silvery barbs broke me. I played in a game where two players had it and as a result no monster ever got to fail a save ever. The only way to really deal with it was massed mooks rushing them in melee, cause when you're fighting 25 orcs forcing a couple rerolls a round isn't gonna help much.
>>97833303That's called a skald and that's based.
>>97820713You're on a board entirely for pretend dice games so get over it.>>97807937Your post unintentionally shows why multiclassing needs to be removed. No one has this problem in B/X D&D. It is literally the most balanced edition of D&D to exist. Even 4e had the possibility of rolling infinite attacks per turn with badly thought out rogue or ranger abilities.
>I do the powerful reddit thing!>"no you don't"holy fuck the DM just balanced teh SHIT out of the game

>>97832912>And as I said, the changes that do happen are ones you’d like. I remember you have Highschool DxD on the list (because I was the one who suggested it), and as you now are, taking Rainbow-Dyed Melody and becoming god’s reincarnation is something you would be well prepared for.I might do that but my jumper will be shocked when everyone starts looking to her to play the role of god. I could see her at this point reluctantly trying to fix things... Whether trying to do that actually works, I am not sure.
>>97835786>I might do that but my jumper will be shocked when everyone starts looking to her to play the role of god.At least Civilization will have prepared you for being worshiped.>I could see her at this point reluctantly trying to fix things... Whether trying to do that actually works, I am not sure.Fixing heaven’s systems will be the hard part, but the angels should be able to help you with that. As for relations with the devils and fallen, god’s reincarnation showing up will result in tensions, but if you make it clear that you want peace things should calm down after a while.
>>97835975>At least Civilization will have prepared you for being worshiped.Oh my jumper is not going to be happy.>Fixing heaven’s systems will be the hard part, but the angels should be able to help you with that. I think my jumper will probably lay low for a bit doing jumper things before she reveals who she is a reincarnation of.
>>97838535>God seems like a role that you grow in to.No doubt. It’d probably going to be near the end of the chain before you’re finally comfortable in the role.>I think my jumper will probably lay low for a bit doing jumper things before she reveals who she is a reincarnation of.A sensible idea, but remember that heaven has ways to detect god’s reincarnation. Your jumper might want to lay low, but they’ll probably have several angels at the door within a few hours.
Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. Humans are the only ones who know how to fight/love sex/survive/etc. How can we save the genre or reinvent it so it isn't so stale?
>>97834230>Avatar was bad because it tries to convince the viewer that saving humanity from extinction is a moral wrongThey literally killed the entirety of Earth's flora and fauna all on their own and made the planet unlivable out of corporate greed. Any species that retarded deserves its extinction, and I say this as a human.
>>97835898>They are objectively superior to human ones, so why the fuck shouldn't I change over?Because then you would be free from corporate slavery and a symbol to others that they can also be free from corporate slavery, and we can't have that no sir!
>>97839074Nah.I don't think you are qualified to pass judgement on the collective of humanity.Even in a hypothetical scenario where the collective action of mankind destroys earth, I consider your viewpoint to be treason against the species, and in a serious species-wide existential situation would merit capital punishment, and public execution.
>>97836325Also in the first movie Jake’s attacked by the thanator at the beginning, Ney’tiri’s initially afraid of it in the final battle, and the leonopteryx goes after both of them while flying on their banshees (and IIRC it’s implied that this is not uncommon?)
>>97839167They not only ruined their own world but have the gall to go around trying to ruin another one to potentially save their already ruined one that they more than likely will just ruin again callously restarting the cycle. That's not commendable human behavior, that is parasitism.
