>mimimi, humans don't have their own feature, mimimi, we have to invent somethingNecromancy right here. When was the last time you saw non-human necromancer, lich or vampire? That's right, they practically don't exist because other races are simply inferior when it comes to necromancy and those non-human undead are so pathetic that everyone forgets about their existence in 5 minutes . Except for that one orc, but even he understood that he was worthless and therefore got himself a human body to finally become a full-fledged lich. So yes, here is your feature humans - necromancy, you know that I am right, you can't run away from the truth forever.
>>97816513Eye of the Beholder III had an Elf lich, IIRC.
>>97816513Warhammer fantasy has the best take on necromancy as a "Human thing" because only human beings have the right combination of short lifespan, and relative magical aptitude, to make it seem like a good use of your time.Elves look at necromancy and go "I'm good": they don't wanna get a permanent case of shit-face from freebasing congealed Dhar scraped off the floor of an Altdorf toilet stall.

As I understand it, any psyker could technically maintain consciousness and coherence in the warp after death as a soul and reincarnate themselves. The problem is that they don't really have access to a body, and, oh yeah, demons immediately start chewing on the nice soul that turned up in their hellscape and didn'thave the good sense to gutter out like most souls. Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. >>97840057Nah. It's not a strict clone like OSE, but the term "retroclone" allows for stuff with some mild houserules. What he's doing is leaning towards something like Labyrinth Lord, IE firmly in the standard retroclone area, rather than a borderline retroclone like LotFP, which is still far from actually doing a NuSR game. That said, some of the changes kinda suck.

I don't care that Arneson did it once, As a matter of fact, it's a NuSR staple today, something that only NuSR faggots do.
Hi,I am only now playing Amnesia: The Bunker and I am amazed just how much in apperance and lore the Monster from game resembles Flesh Eater Courts. The Monster from game is actually a type of ghoul per lore. The Monster was once Augustin Lambert, who had been transformed into a powerful Ghoul like creature due to the drinking water tainted by a otherworldly substance called Vitae ( this reminded me of Kingsblood "wine"). It is a cannibal monstrosity that stalks the tunnels of game, reminded me of how, for example, a Varghulf would act in closed spaces. It makes its home and sleeps in the Chapel, decorated with gruesome half devoured corpses. The design of Monster eyes and those immense fangs that make its toothy maw for some strange reason deeply reminds me of Blisterskin court art. In the Blisterskin court art, the ghoul has a semi dreamy/melancholy eyes filled with pure tragedy. Such a powerful imagery.

Whatever you may think of the idea of martial characters in D&D or any other fantasy rpg basically doing sword magic, it is at least a lot more fun from a gameplay perspective than just going "I make an attack roll" every round.
False dichotomy, i can just "roll sword magic" every turn instead, making them functionally identical concepts unless distinguished in-system. Which system are we talking about again, by the way?
>>97840183>i can just "roll sword magic" every turn insteadhow many systems have you played where magic is always just a single roll with the same function each time it's used?

>>97839030Whatever high-tech location it is, whether a crashed spaceship or a precursor vault or whatever, you can sidestep the issues of traps by making it so the place isn't a military installation. There isn't going to be a door that slams shut and starts filling the chamber with poison gas, but there might be a leaking fuel pipe which is causing toxic fumes. The former is hard to really justify avoiding or escaping, while the latter is somewhat more plausible in terms of how the PCs might circumvent the obstacle if they can see weird smoke. The effect on the setting doesn't matter at all. You just assume that once they leave, they either destroy their tribe by bringing back radioactive material, or start a lineage of priest-kings around the pieces of tech they learned to use. Either way, getting out with the loot is enough of an end goal by itself that you don't need to sweat the aftermath.

>>97840143>>97840144What I underood from the interviews and AMAs:Acti-Blizz imposed a series of constraints:Archon CANNOT add anything that isn't already in the SC IP. This means everything in the games and the EU is fair game. We could get whacky stuff like Grizzlies, for example (although I doubt it).Models should reasonably preserve relative scale. So we're unlikely to see Carriers or Battlecruisers as models. Instead I think we might see them as cards. Ditto for Mothership or Leviathan. This does open un possibilities like having special cards like Hyperion for Raynor's Raiders, Bucephalus for Royal Guard, etc. They have said they want to add in the Colossus. I don't know how they'd swing that. Ultralisks will definitely make it in. Thors I'm also on the fence about. The image does say Fenix + Purifier units, which makes sense for a Purifier subfaction. I'd rather it was Talandar, though. A Zealot and Dragoon Fenix could be a separate Hero. Makes sens they'll do the Protoss subfactions from SCII: Khalai, Daelam, Nerazim, Taldarim, Ihan Ri.I think Lurkers are guaranteed. There already are Hydras, Lurkers are iconic, there's a Burrowed mechanic in place... It would also make sense as an Elite slot unit. Either 1 or 2 Lurkers. Kit could build a Lurker with Light Surge or an Impaler with Armored Surge. It just makes sense.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

>>97839954Ah damn I wanted to use that pic for my session report. Eh doesn't matter. So I braved the cursed 5p session and played a bunch of different games.>SantiagoIt's as good as people say it is, suprisingly so. Not that big on pure negotiation games, largely because even in the best cases (like chinatown) they tend to exhaust me far more than a mathsy euro or stressful realtime game ever could. Santiago sidesteps this in an interesting way, on closer inspection it's a bizzarely eurofyed version of negotiation. You can negotiate, but not freely exchange resources and the spotlight is always on one person that makes the decision, eliminating the frantic shouting over each other and jockeying for attention, which also means there's no need for a timer to keep it short like in chinatown. First game took around 75 minutes and could realistically go down to 45. Not much to say, it's pretty good and very cutthroat, and I merely scratched the surface of how to play well. Rightfully a classic and I will prefer it to all other negotiation games in the future. Problem is that it allegedly is only really good with 5p.>AgricolaHad a new player (who is a bit of a brainlet) on the table so drafting was out of the question. Still enjoyed it because Agricola is just fucking awesome, but the draft is clearly what elevates the game. Didn't much feel the high player count, bit over 2h. I wish there was a comeback of more brutal euros like this, where your first game should just be about "try to not starve". Finally going over the edge from barely making it to actually having an engine run and being able to do more than survive is so statisfying. I expected 5p to be far longer, and it's very interesting how adding a few spaces changes the games dynamic a lot.>Ra5p sees the players with a little too little control than I'd like but it's still phenomenal. Ra might just be best at 3.>cont.
