Thread #02 Lean Winter on the TundraPrevious Thread: >>97090196Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887Rules:>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. God damn shit fuck. Can I go to one social function without running into a monster? I'm at a damn New Years Party last night and three pale motherfuckers crash it. One's 7 feet tall with a beard half that length. One's a short grubby guy in a suit with more grease than hair. And the third was dressed like a holiday themed stripper, pretty much just wearing christmas ribbons. This wasn't even some ritzy upscale party, just a get together of like 20-ish people. The greasy guy said some shit about "new year, new life for you all" but I didn't get much more because the adrenaline had hit and I was going for a weapon. Now I'm beat to hell, laying on the couch. I think they were vampires, because I managed to get beard guy by grabbing his beard and pulling it into the fireplace. He went up like a matchstick. A few other hunters were there, we got lucky. Drove the other two off but now we're all beat up and there's two dozen terrified normies from that party looking for answers. One night, that's all I ask for.
>>97278530Damn that's some shit luck. What happened at your last social function? Also yep, definitely a vampire with how that one died alongside their words. Did he get a drink spilled on?
>>97279515You mean before this? Had to duck out of Thanksgiving for an exorcism, because the spirit was gonna kill the host if we didn't do it then and now. I don't even bother with Halloween anymore, there's always some bullshit on Halloween. Before that I was at an open house where there was a haunting. >Did he get a drink spilled on?Not sure what you're asking here. I didn't see anyone throw a drink in his face. He was whooping my ass during the fight, hit me so hard I went staggering back and almost fell into the fireplace. He was hesitant to follow so I called him a pussy while I grabbed a fire poker as a weapon. That pissed him off enough to get back in my face, when he grabbed the poker I let it go, grabbed his beard, dropped to the ground to use his high center of mass against him, and managed to pull part of it into the fireplace. It burned my hand his beard went up so fast. His pals didn't wanna get close to him, and there wasn't much water for him to put himself out with, so he died screaming running out of the house.
>>97279963Man that is some bad luck. Have you ever checked to see if you're cursed?>FireAh don't worry about it, vampires are weird. Good on you for sticking it to him though, hopefully the others don't bother ya.

>>97280835I kind of like the middle and right flamers, but basically anything is better than the current flamers. humans are boring nuff said
>>97271833Humans are boring for the same reason the main character vs villain is usually boring. They by necessity, are meant to be the relatable, marketable, self insert that can do anything, on a race level.
Humans are boring because in classical D&D humans are an afterthought. Also, human mythology is never explored.

What are some fantasy and sci-fi movies you should watch to inspire your games and players?
>>97280472 85 OAV is waaaaay better as inspo. The Count's menagerie is already worth of a Monster Manual by itself.
>>97279483Good point, I'running a spelljammer campaign, so when someone wants to join I just ask them:- Have you watched that old Treasure Planet movie?- Did you like it?- What kind of character would you like to play that would fit in that movie?I think this have helped a lot to set the tone of the campaign.
>>97279981>tranime
>>97277617Really depends on the flavor of fantasy and sci-fi you are after in particular. Conan matches your pic better than you can imagine. I like a lot of what other anons have suggested. Would throw in Wizards as well.>>97279981My man. Good anime recommendations.
>>97278806It is good and I like it better. The newer one is still very weeaboo but the older one comes from a more innocent time where no one cared, at least not publicly. It's totally unabashed about being some western fantasy of what Japan was like whereas the remake tones that stuff down. I don't think the new adaption captures the spirit of the novel well, it tries too hard to be less weeaboo which removes a lot of the charm, especially that of the thoroughly implausible love story that tracks through the novel and 80s show. The 80s also didn't try to force me to learn Japanese to understand what they were saying in Japanese, unlike the newer one when they left bits unsubtitled so that the viewer could be just as confused as the European characters at times. While I can see some good for leaving off subtitles in some productions, I don't think that helped the story telling in this story.Compare the 1960 sand and sandals epic Spartacus with its wonderful saturated colours, over the top spectacle, square jawed never sets a foot wrong hero to a grimmer film like 2000's Gladiator with its slightly less square jawed and slightly flawed hero who lets his desire for revenge overcloud his judgement, throws in a little brooding, some moral quandaries, some emotional angst over the death of his family. Both very good films and both enjoyable. Same for both Shogun miniseries. While they wasted him and this was not up there with his best work, this was the first thing I saw Toshiro Mifune in before I knew who Toshiro Mifune was.Didn't hurt that it had Yoko Shimada as Mariko either.

Just opened my 5 alliance insight boxes No DMG but I got 2 qcdr cards and a Maliss P March Hare. Tallied about $200 bucks.
>>97277430MtG didn't use to be this way until EDH became the most popular format. When playing MtG casually meant taking a Standard deck to your weekly FNM, proxies were not allowed as it was a sanctioned tournament. Since EDH is a casual format, people never really gave a shit and that sentiment remained, fortunately. The price of MtG singles since the advent of Commander has increased dramatically, where even your average casual deck non-proxied will run you fro. $250-$500, unless you're explicitly playing a budget build. I unironically switched to playing YGO as my primary card game as it is far more affordable these days.
>>97277430Most players don't give a fuck about proxy/OCG/AE cards, HOWEVER the owner will absolutely kick your ass to the curb if he catches you with one during a official tournament, because he can lose his OTS status over it. It's only allowed in HOTU tournaments, but then again HOTU tournaments have all sorts of weird rules, my lgs has its custom banlist and also lets you use a card from the official banlist ie you can run pot of greed or apollousa in your deck.

>>97278993UN-ignoring the elephant in the room; the field spell deals lethal amounts of burn damage. I've had some oxygen thieves say that it's just like a regular OTK build, but you can block battle damage pretty trivially as long as your opponent isn't on a gimmick build like Mikanko, Yubel, or heaven forbid Ritual Relinquished. You can't block effect damage, or at least not reliably with fucking anything in the current meta short of One Day of Peace in Runick (which is to say, not reliably with fucking anything in the current meta). It also doesn't take a hell of a lot to pivot it into being an FTK build instead.A single card should not be able to repeatedly burn your opponent for over half their starting LP at the start of every single turn. If it only happened during your own standby phase? Sure, the archetype's theme is Judgement and you're punishing your opponent for their opulent playstyles when it only happens during your own standby phase.. But it does it every. single. turn. It's just not right.
The DMG refers to eight different types of players. Was it correct?
>>97280550WotC was basically the only people to actually survey players, so it's the closest thing to an empirical taxonomy.
I am 100% actor
>>97280550No, pic related is an objectively better list. What the DMG describes is somewhat true, but it's very theoretical rather than practical.
>>97281043That assumes some effort is made to correctly interpret the data, and im not seeing a latent class analysis. Besides, this categorization is at best descriptive of broad trends in the data, and its not information we can actually useI propose that players are interested in the game, and their interests will be specific to prefered facets of the game. The likely classes are>interested/disintrested in exploiting mechanics>interested/disinterested in character drama>interested/disinterested in social intrigue>interested/disinterested in the setting>interested/disinterested in combat>interested/disinterested in chaos>interested/disinterested in puzzles>contemplative/impulsive playstyle
>>97281180Sadly, to my knowledge, nobody else tried. They come up with Grand Unifying Theories and worked backwards from that.

>>97280493>At least they are mostly fun, even if the stories are often retarded. I recommend Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Republic Commando, The Force Unleashed.Pretty much this. Force Unleashed is a lot of fun, despite the fact that it is probably the single most power-fantasy-Black-Hole-Sue level writing job ever put into the franchise. Starkiller is somehow worse than what the staunchest "DiSnEy RaPeD tHe CoRpSe Of StAr WaRs!" people claim Rey is... But, the gameplay is fun.I'd also say that the Ewok Movies are at least dumb fun. Heavy emphasis on the dumb.
>>97280608The second Ewok movie is legitimately good. It's better than more movies in the Saga than people are comfortable with.

>>97234966I've played with three different trannies and only one of them was an ok player (but still too quiet). The other two were a drama queen and a retard who constantly needed help with everything.
>>97234966Yes, we're easily the best players
>>97234966Only ones I've run games for have been consistently>overbearing about their character build even in games that don't have character builds to the point of just declaring their dnd generic race existed in the game world >didn't understand the rules very well if at all >direct to murder hobo more than anyone else, ready to perceive slight at anything irl or in game>constant references to irl media They're just what we would previously have called spergs. Tabletop games have always had them, they just have a more leveragable social excuse currently.
>>97234966I have one player in an online game I'm convinced is trans (or at least deep into the identity BS) and they're, like, fine. They pay the 2nd most attention despite being on call during the game and the fact they want to fuck everyone means they actually engage with the NPCs on some level. The bard player in my high school game that trooned out was an annoying loudmouth and only got louder after they trooned, as in literally yelling shit at the top of his lungs at random. I do not really miss playing with him at all.

Do you include seasonal changes in your campaigns when time goes by?If so, what do you implement int the world to showcase the changing seasons?I personally include sea raiders who begin assaults on the kingdom's shores in spring and through summer, who then return to their homeland in fall to winter it out. So essentially a raiding season for my world's vikings, like in real history.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWc0DvoY6qw
