For the Plague marines toxic weapons do I get the extra 1 damage immediately after one attack applied in that sequence or do I have to fight or shoot again for it to enable?
>>97837206Shooting damage is all dealt at once so it couldn't apply to a single attack regardlessBut as for melee, the weapons profile is 'locked in' when you select it for that fight action. So you'd need to fight again (or with a different operative) for toxic to kick in
>>97837206The rule states that toxic adds 1 to both damage stats for the weaponSo each time you deal damage from a crit or regular hit you do 1 additional damageFor example, the champion's plague sword effectively has a 5/6 statline when fighting/retaliating against a poisoned enemy operative
>>97831823Really excited for the boss fight stuff. I'm sick of my local scene and discords all being sweatlords who just do competitive grinding.
>>97838433I agree that the competitive aspect sucks, but it makes for faster games which makes for more games played total. And it doesn't suck like 40k competitive when you get your shit pushed back up your asshole from the list-build alone so deployment feels like feeding the other guy.

>>97838480100% this. Now if you see something in a piece of art theres a 99% chance it will get a model. And also why wouldnt GW make those speculated new armies? The japanese/nippon inspired one would fly off the fucking shelves.
>>97838539I'm playing through Blighted Wilds with a friend now, my Chorfs vs Stormcast. We're 4 games in and just finished 3 games on a battleplan that was essentially Warhammer soccer, with us kicking an objective around. That was pretty fun.Chorfs seem better at PtG than the standard battlepack.

I really think AoS has room and faction concepts to explore like Grotbag Scuttlers or Silent People before going with shit like Cathay or Bretonnia. The other GW games should adopt some of the cool AoS faction like Gloomspite Gitz or Sylvaneth and not viceversa.
>>97838584I was running Ogors - and we did well. A lot of the in-book Paths can negate the weakness of being so aggressive. If I miss a charge phase, I can still do D3 mortals and possibly get -1 to wound which is big against Death armies. We're gonna gear up for Ravaged Coast soon-ish. I want to run a new army for that for variety's sake. Was going to be BoK, but the new Cities stuff might make me use them instead. The people who used their Anvil of Apotheosis had a loooot of fun with those characters.

>>97837467You could probably cobble together something with Chronicles of Darkness rather easily. The system is modular and allows for easy creation of any sort of monster or even characters for Sarkicist abilities, though you might want to read Second Sight for the latter. I recommend using Hunter: The Vigil, especially if you want to play as members of one of the masquerade upholding GoIs like the Foundation or the GOC. You might also want to consider looking into Deviant.
I want to run CoC for the first time. What Call of Cthulhu scenarios feel the most like Iron Maiden songs?
>>97833370>What works? The concept of a cosmic horror interred in ice has been done a couple times before but I think this is the first where the entity in question is somehow causing the HEAT DEATH OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE despite the fact that it's completely imprisoned in ice on the literal ass-end of the earth. It doesnt have to do anything to destroy the universe, it just exists and everythin falls towards cosmic stasis.>What's cool about it?Apart from the big bad literally cooling everything down, it's a short and sweet story featuring a pretty unique take on an eldritch abomination.>Why is it so effective? It's a gradual examination of the entity, known as The Specimen, which eventually reveals shocking and terrible truths that point towards it being the ultimate annihilator of the world, if not the universe as a whole - all despite it being contained in a massive sheet of ice. It pulls off the expedition team losing their minds fairly well and the MC, though we don't know much about her, sells the perspective of a rational scientist faced with something inexplicable in both its form and concentrated malice.>What is the best part of it in your opinion? The line where it's revealed that the universe's entropic heat death is escalating far, far ahead of schedule: "The world is freezing to death. Not through an ice age or nuclear winter, but from inertia of cosmic proportions". The Specimen is literally killing the universe within a human lifetime with the Sun and stars slowly going out, plants and animals withering and dying due to the seasons no longer changing, the Earth's rotation slowing, and humanity generally being caught in a depressive fugue as they await the end.>Thoughts on the characters?Grace is the only one we really get detailed in any real form, and there's not much to say there apart from her being the POV character and a scientist examining the Specimen.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97833370>>97838556>Is the villain effective?Yeah, I'd say so. It's a colossal serpent-like entity with white fur, rapto-claws, and a wolf's skull for a head. It's completely immobile in the ice, and yet its presence causes insomnia and madness in the research team analyzing it, it may have driven the expedition who found it to suicide, and if Grace's theory is correct, it is causing the sped-up heat death of reality. It's the best kind of weird and unearthly that I like in my horror villains, and even more interestingly, it seems like it might be some especially weird take on the Yeti given it was found under the Mahalangur Himal and is noted to have "white fur".>If you had to pick a moment that really scared you, which would it be?Not necessarily a "scared me" moment, but the idea of 'something' being the direct cause of entropy as a phenomenon and being capable of speeding it up is a pretty freaky scenario to be stuck in. You can't do anything to stop it, you can't reason with it, and you can't slow it down. Something that should take sextillions of years is going to be happening in under five, and you'll be forced to experience it in crystal-clear detail.>Is there anything you feel could have been expanded upon?Maybe a little more lore behind the Specimen and some other characters for Grace to really bounce off of, but that's about it on my end.>What would you change? As above, I'd add other characters for Grace to interact with, more details on the Specimen, and some more speculation/theorizing regarding it.>Would you use it as inspiration for a game?Comment too long. >>97833370I love the story, but I'm not sure if I would include it in my games given its reality destroying nature. I might consider using it as a final monster or an overarching evil.
Long time MtG player (17 years?) and with what's happening to the game rn, i don't really have much interest in any of the new sets. Sorcery looks like it could maybe scratch that itch. The art is fantastic and reminds me of legacy MtG art. Anybody here play?I watched a few overview vids, but I'm curious how the actual gameplay goes. For someone who plays mostly EDH, are there any similarities? Is it usually a 2 player match? How long are the matches usually? Is it as much of a money pit as MtG?Convinced a few of my MtG friends to give it a shot based off of the art alone. Just need an idea of what I'm up against in terms of learning curve.

It sure is funny how the composition of your matchmaking queue will completely change when you start playing a new deck, almost like it's trying to set you up against things that specifically counter what you're trying to do, but as soon as you build something to try to counter those decks they vanish like a fart in the wind.

>>97835681Fair enough. It wont be exotic in the "same way" as warmer and more bio-diverse climates are to europe.I wasnt trying to imply that the not-europe would ONLY export exotic stuff, just that some of the stuff they do export would seem exotic in a non-European inspired main location.ON the topic of glass and silk, I also find it interesting that glass making processes were also jealously guarded just like how silk making processes were in the east. The Venetians being an obvious example, but later on I believe there was like only one small German state that had the knowledge to make the finest telescope lenses and people from all over europe bought them and tried to get the secret. European telescopes more broadly meant were also another major luxury export across the globe.
>>97834742>cogfopCringe.
>>97835314It's just something that exist in the background. It isn't a focus in my setting. There are some fairly advanced applications of glass, like it being a information storage medium, but that is because the tech level of my setting is intentionally all over the place.
So I started writing a historical chronicle as a way to populate my setting with towns, castles, and significant political dynasties. The first part covered 6 pages. Now I'm at 30 pages of just chronicle, covering 3 different wars and the time in-between. I know that that is all I want to write about the backstory, but how do I stop making it so long? Each war just takes longer and longer because as the kingdom grows in size and takes more territory and gains more capabilities, the wars it fights grow bigger too.
>>97834974I doubt it, but I can't say I actually know for sure. Even with megafuna farming and raising livestock still would be a far more consistent source of food then hunting ever could provide.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome!
