Been thinking a lot about this

>So the warp, as the realm of souls, originally was a creation of the old ones as a weapon against the necrontyr in the war of heaven. It allowed not only a means for the Aeldari and Krorks to use psychic powers, but also cheat death and allow them to respawn infinitely.
>But after the war in heaven the warp is destabilized due to the negative emotions, death, and general usage. There's no more old ones to fix it either.
>Now the "warp" sends those same negative emotions at the Aeldari who in turn start going crazy. They start doing their murder orgies, but it's not really fair to blame them as they are influenced by the warp. The same thing is known to happen to human psykers as well. The warp make psykers, especially untrained ones, crazy and emotional. In long terms it uses them to gain more power and access to realspace. REMEMBER THIS.
>This creates a feedback loop where the the negative emotions make the mortals crazy and in turn have the negative emotions to fuel the warp. Ultimately resulting in slaanesh. khorne nurgle and tzeentch are likely started in the war in heaven, but finished during humanity's early era when human psykers start showing up.

Emperor's motives make more sense when you consider the context of his past life as an extremely devoted member of the old church; he's Saint George after losing his faith, and just like Horus threw a temper tantrum to spite the Emperor thinking he could rule humanity's fate for the better, so too did the Emperor break the temple that gave him his reference for understanding the supernatural to seize the reigns of destiny to his kind after feeling them inept and/or deluded.

We don't know but I wouldn't put it past them. Honestly, given their advanced tech, especially when it comes to the Dark Eldar, it would make sense that they could just alter their skin color to suit their tastes. However, again, lorewise they have been consistently described as pale skinned, with Dark Eldar being often described as being exteremely pale and almost corpse like in their skin color.

No one wants competitive games to be bogged down by 2 hour arguments by autists over if a piece of rubble or vine blocks LOS because some aphantasic niggers simply MUST have proper representation of visuals. It's also impossible to balance battlefields when you have muh realism retards placing nonstandard shapes because "muh ruined structures" everywhere. The hobby lives or dies by how much it can be taken seriously and if you don't have structure and rules you'll never be able to market it to the real consumers: the competitive players.

It's just another nail of disappointment.
3rd edition was around half-decent and half-awful, and everything since has been a steady decline with occasional good releases to soften the blow. The whole 3rd edition main-story getting derailed because they decided to squat the primary antagonist army (BoC) is still so baffling, but not THAT surprising with this shitty company. And ofcourse now the whole setting is just being further fucked with with new edition on top of my favorite faction being completely unrecognizable from where it started.

Going by the broader ideas of Eberron, it was always odd that the dragons weren't just mostly extinct aside from a handful. Or that they weren't capped out at 'young dragon' in terms of size and power, but made up for it with spellcasting and large quantities of magic items.
That has them align more with the rest of the setting in terms of power.

If it's really that important for them to be CR 24 and they're going to be isolationist anyway, then they should have the same problems as the loli pope and end up nerfed outside of their lairs and nerfed further outside of their continent. Then it's actually possible to identify why dragons never getting involved is so rare, because only the most powerful dragons can actually maintain enough power to reasonably disguise themselves and operate in a clandestine manner outside of their homeland. And it'd be incredibly risky for them because they could get offed by a random assassin.

So many easy ways to address this and make dragons actually usable without raising too many questions.
>>
>>97836914

Yes, Keith Baker underutilizes the idea of "region-locked" (for lack of a better term) super-powerful beings. He already uses it for, say, the Undying Court of Aerenal, explaining why the Aereni never bothered to expand outwards into Khorvaire. He should have used the idea for Argonnessen, too.

>If it's really that important for them to be CR 24
Again:

https://keith-baker.com/dm-arcane-arts/ (ctrl+f for "wild dragon")
https://keith-baker.com/dm-arcane-arts/#comment-227298

Here, Keith Baker unironically claims that a challenge 24 dragon in the 5e Monster Manual is just some wild dragon, not a proper wyrm of Argonnessen, who would be much more powerful. This is ridiculous to me, considering that the mightiest of the known daelkyr, Dyrrn, is also challenge 24.

This is not even factoring in the greatwyrms.

So by Keith logic, that CR 24 dragon is an untrained, feral scrub.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Many older scenarios are quite janky. RPG writers were used to DnD-esque adventures, and thus struggled to write proper investigative horror games, often making them much too deadly.
In the case of this scenario in particular, the most obvious solution to me would be killing one of the unarmored Mi-Go (since only three of them are armored) and stealing their frost weapons. It says no roll is necessary to use these weapons and says nothing about armor resisting them, only warm clothing. Since the Mi-Go armor is only some kind of web, I would say it’s a poor insulator for keeping out a freezing mist.
Alternatively, the players could damage/destroy the ritual circle, perhaps with dynamite, and also collect evidence of alien activity. This could delay the Mi-Go for a long time and in the meanwhile, as you suggested, they could get the authorities to come in force and clean things up, rather like the ending of Shadow Over Innsmouth. You could perhaps throw a Delta Green nod in there.

>the most obvious solution to me would be killing one of the unarmored Mi-Go (since only three of them are armored) and stealing their frost weapons.
I forgot to reveal the extra information on the Mi-Go because I forgot about it as it's in my .txt records.
All impale weapons (bullets other than shotguns for basic rules) deal minimum damage.
Their Armor negates 3 damage always.
They always wish to grapple and there is only one Mi-Go that is alone, who will flee as the characters are a group of 3, only to go get more (6 others), afterwhich is certain death.
Mi-Gos will grapple, then fly us to death.

With Dynamite involved, that's a hard case of hindsight being 20/20. I thought about something similar
Each night has a 28% chance of success.
We drove from Boston to Vermont (4 hours), climbing the mountain takes at least 2 hours to the peak (being very generous).
First night shouldn't really count for a success as characters have no chance of knowing what's happening and can observe.
In the daytime after seeing the ritual, characters can go back to get the dynamite.
And hypothetically say that it could be, it would be on a very tight timeline to get back, wire it all up, and perhaps even set a trap for them.
But the bigger issue is arrest.

Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>
>>97835742
Geez, fair enough. Though I would still say that as long as you make Mi-Go No. 4 the one the players investigate on their own, the frost weapon plan is still good. No. 4 only has 8 hit points, meaning even with the three points of armor and impaling weapons reduction, it's not hard to have the players beat it to death with melee weapons. Definitely not easy, they'll only have a round or two to do it and need to succeed a lot, but still viable.
But like I said, old CoC adventures tend to have a lot of issues because the writers really didn't understand the intricacies of writing investigative horror at the time.

You ever have an idea for a good horror setpiece but then need to build a plot around it?

NTA, but it shouldn't be hard to homebrew a PC Dragon race. Rely heavily on Dragonborn, throw in Pixie flight, maybe add the Shifter's natural weapons, and balance it out with starting ability and equipment restrictions (who makes armor for dragons?) and that you're starting as a juvenile dragon. Shouldn't be too difficult. Homebrew should be made to solve problems or accomodate players. Knowing why a player wants to play a dragon is helpful to making a dragon race for the player to enjoy.
There's not much 4e homebrew regardless.
>>
>>97836746

The goblin on the left will have the decency to kill you brutally, the goblin on the right will destroy your life, your finances, your sense of worth and self, then bounce to do it to some other poor sod. And the moment, the actual moment she finds out you've started picking yourself back up, she'll make a beeline to you so she can do it all over again.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Thoughts on Macuahuitl? I've been thinking of trying it but I can't find it in the troves so I want to know if it's worth taking the plunge for.
