>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>it's when you claim to like the elves that we start dumping holy water on you and shrieking
Worst part about it is that we kind of have a little peak at what could have been with the elves if only the sculpting of the minis was good.

Pic related is from the Mantic League of Infamy board game.

Skorne modernising and building their own warjacks would be fun.

Injection itself costs almost nothing. It's like 10 cents or something like this, per model, with plastic costs accounted for. There are two problems though:
1) Molds cost 5 to 10k dollars to make.
2) Most of the time/cost on injection is in setup, meaning no one is running injection machines to print less than a thousand copies.
>>
>>97177972
It really is not overpriced, if you value the book.
If you use a pirated pdf for the rules anyway, then yes, you pay too much if you go for that box.

>>97178245
Circle from Khador makes sense because of the Old Witch, and late 3e lore almost got us the Turner and Hooch Ret/Skorne theme. I think we're only getting Menoth now because of the tireless dinosaur posting of a few brave souls, so be the change&etc

But I'm a fag and some of my players are trans, and we all prefer 3.5 over PF?
Does that mean we get our gay cards revoked?
>>
>>97175865
Does that mean all generals on the board can be merged?

>your melee character won't even be able to pin any of these opponents to a fight without caster support.
This is essentially the problem with the entire conversation, and comes up in these white room theory discussions. The party is supposed to work with and support each other; its the unfortunate autists who can not comprehend teamwork.

Writing General: 'festive' edition

Welcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product.

As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time.

There's a discord for writers here
https://discord.gg/6AwKHGF

The previous thread can still be found in the archive here
>>96644454

And finally an archive of /tg/ fiction can be found here:
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (dead link, but may be resurrected one day)

What's the secret sauce to writing a humorous campaign and scenarios for me and the lads?
I'm genuinely perplexed on how to be funny and to do it without being snobbish to the players.
>>
>>97170448
If there was a secret to writing humour, whoever knew it would be a millionaire. It's why comedy movies are basically a dead artform at this point: most of the time you don't know in advance if they're going to be massive successes or huge bombs. A joke that's funny on paper can sound completely cringe if delivered wrong, and what one person finds funny might sound totally stupid to someone else.

My advise is to simply write whatever you like then run it past someone else first to see if the humour lands.
>>
>>97170448
My only advice would be an anecdote: the best humor campaign I ever ran was designed to be funny in hindsight. Humor is tough on tt because it flows more naturally from the group than from you.

In the campaign, aspects of the old gods would infect certain regions. Warping them to be like itself in different ways.

The campaign was played straight. The players couldnt quite guess what the old god was. Enemies were often giant apes, inhabitants became radioactive under a partial moon, the bad guys used swords and scimitars. There was a ton of other stuff. The people were crazy, there was a yellow malaise, the party was working for a trade guild that wanted the resources of the island, giant spiders hid among the populace, etc.

I like to think it was kinda spooky.

I played it perfectly straight. The only real clues that would actually give it away plainly was the music, but my choices were always a bit weird and only popped up every so often in the list so it wasn't really acknowledged.

It was the god of bananas. No one really noticed that the shop songs were things like "I like bananas because they have no bones" and "yes, we have no bananas" and a bunch of less recognized DK music to fit the island jungle theme.

I know I'm a bit too old to be writing letters to Santa, but I figured I'd let my inner child have his moment. Things have been a bit rough up here in the Arcadia Block. the Central Street bombing didn't do anyone any favors and it affected a nearby hospital causing a few casualties after damaging the hospital generators. I wish I could say that the son of a bitch who did it was caught but they decided to become part of the fireworks they started.

Anyways, that was a few months ago. The Central Street buildings have been rebuilt or are partway towards being finished but it's essentially pulling your sleeve down to cover the bruises on your arm. The political drama that lead up to this hasn't died down and the political commentators are tickling the algorithims just right to pump up their engagement and view counts.

So what am I asking for in all this? I know the Earth is a big place and not exactly a hop, skip, and a jump away but if Rudolph can guide you across 300,000 miles in the void give Mars a fly by will ya?

You guys have a very obtuse way of looking at the health of a game. If the cards become worthless, people who spent thousands of dollars tailoring their collection, the ones keeping the lights on for the company, feel betrayed and they walk away. You idiots act like everything is binary, either scalper or shill. There's more people that are devastated by this blatant mismanagement than just your perceived "enemy" here. Over printing (reprints too) kill games faster than they build them.

I always found it weird that D&D was maligned as witchcraft, satanism, and anti-social. From what I can tell, TTRPGs just increase sociability, problem solving, conscientiousness, and probably improves self-concept through skills and self-esteem. Did any anons here live through Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons or the Satanic Panic? Sorry if this is boring or repetitive to others, but I want to study the social aspects of TTRPGs and how it exists as a subculture. I think, by and large, this is the best board on 4chan because people really care about this hobby and want to help others get into it. Despite the shitposting, I think the community is vibrant and the games I played through Find a Game threads were all filled with genuine, nice people. So it irks me that the Satanic Panic tried to paint subcultures as evil. Maybe it's because people think TTRPGs overlap with extreme music or just teenage entertainment in general.

Can't you find something in 2025 to be righteous about?
It's really cool that you want people to praise your moral values, but saying "boy those people burning witches 1000 years ago were WRONG! Isn't it wrong?" Is retarded
Pick some real moral battles of today, that can be contested, instead of picking moral winning sides from 40 years ago that nobody disgrees with

Remember this was 40 years ago. Even the core of elder Millennials who still browse this board were babies or not born yet. And in hindsight I can feel bad for some dumb housewife looking for answers after her son blew his brains out.

And weirdly enough there's a lot of interesting rabbitholes you can go down with regards to satanism. The Finders being stumbled upon by a Florida detective and a customs guy and the feds burying the case. The army's top psychological warfare expert being high priest of the Temple of Set. The Moloch statue in Bohemian Grove. Epstein island. Horrible occult murders(Elyse Pahler, the Nightstalker in LA, etc).

I'm not necessarily implying a conspiracy, but it is interesting how Evangelical dorks always crop up make anyone concerned about the occult look ridiculous by picking random pop culture shit to tilt at (DnD, Pokemon, Taylor Swift, etc).

It's hilarious that they did real art of anime characters exactly once and now we're back to this shit

GW kept mentioning space marines or even primarchs coupling with regular human women and it always took me out of it. Like how the fuck? Wouldn't she get ripped in half? But then it dawned on me. They just have tiny penises. Well not by human standards, but relative to body-size. Like think about it, why would you supersize the dick too when there literally do not exist women big enough to handle that size? So the simplest explanation is they just keep the penis size of a regular human.

Dunk On 'Em Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

95% of getting the dungeon synth feel is GM descriptions and player involvement. You'd want rules that reward exploration and skill use. You don't want too much combat, barely any in fact but when it happens it has to be meaningful

Cairn is far from the aesthetic you're talking about, the 1st edition uses bog-standard public domain art, and the 2nd edition uses tumblr style fantasy art. The Israeli Jewish author also actively hates the style of old school D&D because he finds math annoying and says that Gygax was a racist fascist. Not "dungeon synth" at all.

Shadowdark is closer to what you're saying, but the art still feels modern to me. The system is alright, it's basically a stripped down 5e with some DCC mechanics thrown in. The tone goes for a sort of pastiche of grim-darkness with some gonzo stuff. The lesbo author likes the old school style of D&D and made the system to recapture her childhood memories of playing AD&D 2e. It's decently dungeon-synth-ish.

Dungeon Crawl Classics is a beautiful work of art, I sometimes just flip through it to look at the awesome illustrations, and buying any of their adventures is worth it just for the awesome art. I wouldn't call it gritty and dungeon-synth-ish, more crazy guitar riffs and weird psychedelic art on old fantasy books you'd find at an estate sale.

Dragonslayer also has that cool black and white style grittiness to it, it's massive and over-priced but it is filled with cool old-school art. I'd recommend this over all the others I mentioned if you want to go with gritty Dungeon-synth-ish style.

Also check out Labyrinth Lord and the previous editions of Swords and Wizardry.

I don't think that is a great map (and representing it on a graph shows why). The top two players are (or can be) ~5 squares away from each other after deployment, while the bottom player will be at least ~9-10 squares away from anybody.

I dislike 3-player FFA games too, you really need a smart scenario to prevent SOME kind of team-up from happening. I don't even agree that a team-up is realistic, because gangs in that situation wouldn't have a perfect top-down view of the conflict and wouldn't be able to make unintuitive-but-strategic decisions like a player is able to.

Never played them in a proper league before, 2025 changes are really fucking dumb for them especially but something is still telling me to give it a go, especially as it's not like the other option I'm mulling is all that great to start.

They are amazing. Really versatile, I made a penitentiary colony warband, with droogies as elites, using the canon fodders are a base for both. The hardest part was finding heads with bowler hats (I tried using the Dead Man's Hand cowboys, but they all have mustaches, so the best solution is to use green stuff to turn the helmet into a hat).

>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.
>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. The Wyrm promises money, power, sex, and whatever else the heart desires to its followers while the Garou receive no reward for their striving. It drives them deeper and deeper into despair, or into betrayal so deep that they choose to serve the Wyrm instead.

Denigrating, humiliating, and slandering White men is basically a mark of faith for them.

I have to wonder how much SFM porn people ended up making using that model...

It wasn't a popular game so I don't know how much but I think not a lot. It's also really hard to tell from the Skyrim Werewolf at a glance

Only the churches, not the synagogues for some reason

The principle cause for the Manifest destiny was that the land was so empty due to indians cannabilizing each other that it has to be divine Providence for White men to reclaim their land

The triangle trade was Africans selling other Africans to Jews though. It's still the same semitic slave ethics of the Ottomans

>it’s that abortion is common. I ultimately agree with you that abortion should be legal and available, but the sheer ubiquity of it now is despairing.
Ubiquity?!
See those scale models of barely mobile human polywags in my first post?!
That's a six week fetus, fetal heartbeat detectable, so you can't abort it in my state and at least a half a dozen others!
And six weeks is JUST about when a woman might start worrying that her period is late, AKA when she'll first suspect she's even pregnant.

But these fucked up "Fetal Heartbeat" do FAR more damage than just slut shaming reckless teenagers, they also sabotage a lot of prenatal healthcare because at this point, there's at least a 1/3 chance of the pregnancy failing naturally, and that's without complications that may endanger the life of the "mother"!

George Carlin said it best:

"They're not Pro-life, you know what they are?"
"Anti-woman!"
