I have the task of setting up a game for my wife and daughter, as basically my first foray into DMing. I've been considering putting them into my work-in-progress homebrew setting, but I don't really feel confident I can run it kid friendly. So my next idea was to just steal the WoW classic human quest chain as my campaign setting because I know the setting quite well. The general beats being:>Fight the kobolds for control of the mines>Fight the gnolls who raid the southwest >Find clues about the defias brotherhood supporting the gnolls>Fight the defias brotherhood in the deadmines>Uncover the noble who supports the defias from within stormwind>The missing diplomat chain starts. >Sent to Duskwood to investigate the defias there>Optionally fight some undead and Morbent Fel>Sent to Theramore, find the place where the missing diplomat was imprisoned but he apparently is no longer there. Find information about the orcs in Redridge having some role in it.>Fight the orcs at Redridge, leading to entering the burning steppes and finding the quest hook to the Jailbreak line.>Do the jailbreak line, discover the true identity of Katrana Prestor and throw her out of Stormwind>Fight Onyxia in her home and possibly breadcrumb to Nefarian in Blackwing lair.Comment too long. Seeing how your wife and kid are the player characters, maybe check out the WoW comic book from Wildstorm. You could let them straight-up meet Lo'gash and maybe replace Broll and Valeera. Gladiator pits are a fun plot hook.
>>97173875>Seeing how your wife and kid are the protagonists and don't have to share that role with millions of other PCs,Sorry. I'm retarded and trans
>>97171909The daughter is 7 and has no background in fantasy at all. My wife is generally more interested in splinter cell type stuff. We all do love going to castles and stuff, and I play pretend sword fighters with my daughter sometimes. We are also very much board game people. In general they're at least not much burdened by tropes or expectations. As for getting them to not side with the defias, I'll probably do an "all of the above" approach. So the payment cant be made because kobolds in the mines. Also I'm not going to outright tell them unless they pry. Also constant low level annoyances. Also they're cruel and heartless. Also a defector states that they're not cool. >>97172352I ran two oneshots for my regular dnd group. Who are mostly spectrum people. It went pretty okay, but I'm more nervous about this because I need to provide something bigger and more coherent. Also, the only way to get into DMing is to do it I think. And in this case my subjects don't really know what to expect.>>97173594>>97173700Hopefully my wife and daughter will not be doing that kind of stuff. I feel like its more of a sperg gamer thing anyway.

>>97173824Yep that's it, they had to rummage around undercover as natives of the planet and that was basically impossible with that big ass power armor proudly flaunting the Ebon Chalice emblem and all the cyberimpant stuff magos ends up carrying, so they ended up cosplaying as mercenaries with good old plate armors and crossbows. It was easier for the rest of the team especially for the savage world assassin having a blast sneaking around without the risk of being spotted by cameras etc. Ended up being good fun for everyone, even the psyker that kicked the bucked while pleading for his life about "not being a filthy sorcerer i swear"
>>97174131When I ran Acreage I wasn't that demanding. Acreage has like five spaceports, and it's a plot point in Maggots in the Meat that off-world mercs are flooding to Acreage to participate in the war of succession, or to sell off-world guns and armour because the people on Acreage are willing to pay through the nose for them. The town the acolytes visit has guys in flak with Munitorum-grade hunting rifles even, and they absolutely fuck the common musketmen of Acreage. That being said, if they're undercover as natives then they definitely did have to grade down - but as it stood it would've been plausible to present themselves as off-world mercs. But your game, and if they had fun they had fun, right.

Sending a shout out and thanks to OK Anon- I think you're better than OK, you're pretty great!Dad jokes aside, this is great- I love the models, and I'm really looking forward to tackling those sprues (they are definitely a step up in complexity than I've ever done before, so it'll be a good challenge! Thank you for including the instructions, you're a Saint). The collection of .sti's is great; I've flirted with the notion of getting into 3d printing, and with a resource like this it would seem a shame not to take a stab at it. The supplies will definitely be put to use, and the bits bags are great. The baklavas, you'll be happy to know, came at the perfect time for a coffee break, and are delicious. Thank you so much, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas holiday!(Captcha: XHM4S)

I gave 2d6 Dungeon a try the last couple of days and… zzzzzzI’ve played a ton of Ker Nethalas and the whole time I was playing 2d6 Dungeon I just found myself thinking “man, I wish I was playing Ker Nethalas”The combat mechanics of 2d6 Dungeon are neat, but the rest of the game just feels so barren and boring And Christ the 500 tables thing is clunky as hell

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome!
