>>97174757I'm expecting a huge spike in it's points (likely 5 -> mid 30s, maybe 50 even) in Gen. and a limit in Adv.My only concern with the card is that it's load-bearing to some stupid deck entering the format.I think they need to do the Charmy treatment for droll, hell make it a charmy too. I would personally like to see something like a Dark Law effect on it so rather than preventing adds it only lets you go neutral in card econ. The one point I would like to make against that idea though is that it slows play down a bit by having to randomly determine a card to be hit.
>>97174757Ban Mulcharmys
>>97175097I'm expecting Droll to go to 15 in Genesys. Issue with it currently is that the points are low enough that it might as well be free. It's good for the card to have relatively-low points so that you can comfortably run it as a generic, but it needs to be high enough that you need to sacrifice other generics in order to run it.

Writing General: 'festive' editionWelcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product. As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time. There's a discord for writers herehttps://discord.gg/6AwKHGFThe previous thread can still be found in the archive here>>96644454And finally an archive of /tg/ fiction can be found here:http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (dead link, but may be resurrected one day)https://2d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (page missing, wiki still up)Comment too long. >>97163056>>97163467thanks for reading and for your constructive feedback! I copied your replies to the discussion section, so I can use them as a guideline when I write on. I really appreciate the effort you put into your analyses and I'll try to put them to good use.Just to give some context:I'm not a learned writer by any means. I dropped out of university many years ago and never really wrote a proper paper. I'm just imitating the style of the kind of books I like to read (besides rpg stuff) and try to examine topics from the hobby in that fashion. I wrote the text because these things are going trough my mind and it's fun to write them down, further developing my thoughts in doing so. There's no clear aim or perspective behind the writing. I could just have hacked it into my plaintext editor, stored the file somewhere on my harddrive and forget about it, but I like the idea that it can be found in a remote corner of our sweet old wiki.
>>97164841You bet! Glad it's useful, man.I'm the first anon and would suggest you take a look at persuasive writing if you want to hone the idea a bit more. Keeping it opinion based rather than having to 'prove' your viewpoint can also make it a lot more fun.Having to organize thoughts on paper is pretty tough sometimes.
What's the secret sauce to writing a humorous campaign and scenarios for me and the lads? I'm genuinely perplexed on how to be funny and to do it without being snobbish to the players.
>>97170448If there was a secret to writing humour, whoever knew it would be a millionaire. It's why comedy movies are basically a dead artform at this point: most of the time you don't know in advance if they're going to be massive successes or huge bombs. A joke that's funny on paper can sound completely cringe if delivered wrong, and what one person finds funny might sound totally stupid to someone else. My advise is to simply write whatever you like then run it past someone else first to see if the humour lands.
>>97170448My only advice would be an anecdote: the best humor campaign I ever ran was designed to be funny in hindsight. Humor is tough on tt because it flows more naturally from the group than from you. In the campaign, aspects of the old gods would infect certain regions. Warping them to be like itself in different ways. The campaign was played straight. The players couldnt quite guess what the old god was. Enemies were often giant apes, inhabitants became radioactive under a partial moon, the bad guys used swords and scimitars. There was a ton of other stuff. The people were crazy, there was a yellow malaise, the party was working for a trade guild that wanted the resources of the island, giant spiders hid among the populace, etc. I like to think it was kinda spooky. I played it perfectly straight. The only real clues that would actually give it away plainly was the music, but my choices were always a bit weird and only popped up every so often in the list so it wasn't really acknowledged. It was the god of bananas. No one really noticed that the shop songs were things like "I like bananas because they have no bones" and "yes, we have no bananas" and a bunch of less recognized DK music to fit the island jungle theme.

>>97175000Yeah, but I'm still surprised it never got an RPG. Just seems like it would have been one of those franchises a company in the 90s tried to force into it.Like the Lawnmower Man one or Dallas.
>>97175004I suppose I can kind of see your point, but the one I was trying to make is there there wasn't enough to Tek War to make into an RPG. It's honestly baffling that they were able to stretch out it's paper thin premise into a bad Build Engine video game out of it.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! >>97173969Thanks bro, you really understood what I was asking for.Sometimes dungeon synth is too upbeat for dungeoncrawling, sometimes it's just creepy ambience, and I really want something a mix in between, something that is both melodic and atmospheric.
Today was session 55 of my BFRPG campaign. My players finally finished the first region of the first floor of the main dungeon. They rescued a witch who'd been captured by a bunch of orcs working for the priest they captured last session. (The witch gave them potions that cure petrification.) Oh also, the priest that they captured last time drank a potion of gaseous form and managed to escape. I had him run to a major city to the north. Now that they completed the first region of the dungeon, they surveyed the surface and found where each of it's above-ground entrances are in correlation to one another, doing so led them to a dormant portal (That secretly leads to Carcosa...) They got attacked by a giant tree-dwelling Decapus, and managed to take it down with a squad of sword-bearing dwarves. Also, one of their retired characters got married and they had a dwarven wedding with a drinking competition and wrestling tournament. They lost the drinking tournament, but the party's Fighting Woman won a round against one of the dwarven heroes at the wedding, which caused an uproar among the audience. But it was all in good fun.Looking forward to next session. They mentioned exploring an old, abandoned mine that they found earlier in the campaign.

>>97172556There's two ways to interpret the advice.First of all, you can follow the page reference and read the exact box with that title. That basically tells you to trust your gut and improvise when necessary.Secondly, you can take the phrase itself as advice:>if in doubtWhenever you aren't sure what should happen or what the rules are...>rollMake a roll, against some quickly-chosen target (e.g. 'roll Survival'), to choose between options when you can't decide, or simply to appear to be doing something while you come up with a plan.>and shout!Act confident, loud, and enthusiastic to keep the fun and excitement going, rather than stopping to worry about it.I think both approaches are excellent advice, actually. As a GM, you will have to improvise, and you feel like freezing. Having a quick catch-phrase to get your mind out of the decision paralysis loop is helpful, even to an experienced GM who is well aware that improvisation is inevitable.
>>97172882However, if I was writing the box of improvising, I would probably have included less in the way of examples and more useful tools for helping make improvisation easier and more fun, such as...Having an actual system for picking between options even if it's just a table with 'yes' / 'no' / 'sort-of' plus '...and also...' & '...but there is another problem'.Having pre-prepared complications, elaborations, distractions, etc. which could apply to a wide variety of possible situations. Examples would be generic NPC personalities, insignificant encounters (pigeon, rat), small items which could end up anywhere, or minor disasters (something falls over, the lights go out, a container spills open). The NPC reaction table is one such tool.Of course, having too many tools to help you speed things up can actually slow you down as you consult the tools! Anything more than a couple of tables or a few decks of cards is probably too much.

>>97174414I play diggersThey are quite good but hard to play.Vargus is probably the best general use warcaster. He likes sword and shield valiants since they become very hardy on feat turn (armor 24).Every caster likes 1-2 units of gun mages.Rangers are sort of the bread and butter of the faction currently. Most lists want at least 2 or more squads. The main gimmick there is that you drop an ammo crate and do 3 2-man combined ranged attacks from the LMG's and get to send a bunch of rat 10 pow 16's down range.Commandos have a gimmick of ambushing from the side, walking their 6 > placing 2 > air dropping a blocker which then also walks 6, basically letting you put a pretty tanky light warjack on any objective at any time. Diggers big problem is that everything is expensive so you cannot really play to hold objectives by just piling up bodies on them. The other issue is that a lot of the faction does vaguely the same stuff (lots of fairly accurate pow 12 guns around).Hasker is basically unplayable in his current state. He's probably the worst mk4 caster. There's going to be a big balance update January 21 that will rework every MK4 caster. Rangers are also likely to get nerfed then.
>>97174956If I had a printer I would just print fancy doors and windows then glue them to boxes.
>>97175014Realize I forgot to say how they actually play. They are combined arms where the infantry does the shooting and the warjacks do the melee. They are supposed to be flexible with the use of the airdrops (though some of the airdrop need reworks, the scenario where you want to drop a raider instead of a blocker is very, very niche). The warcasters are expected to get involved in the fighting. They are more on the solving problems side vs presenting problems side.
>>97174347No, because as you said: They are cheap (and soft plastic), not hard plastic. If they were the same material, then operating those machines would be the same. Ever wondered why those army men are not available in your typical grey hard plastic all the "proper" mini companies use?
