If I was the DM I’d allow the player to come back to life as whatever species they were and if the player didn’t want to have their PCs limbs restored since they like their magic eye or prosthetic I wouldn’t restore the limbs. It’s that simple. The spell says it makes a new body for them- who says the new body can’t have the same limbs or lack-thereof. They keep the same brain and memories apparently so…
>>
>>97175324
>>97175204
Hell the spell says:
>It retains the capabilities it had in its original form, except it loses the traits of its previous species and gains the traits of its new one.
>Retains any capabilities
Wouldn’t this technically mean it retains the lack of movement or legs or arms or eyes from its prior form making it so even the new body can’t have functioning legs?
>>
>>97175362
Is a disability a capability?
>>
>>97175379
I’d say so! It’s a part of your character.
>>
>>97175324
>>97175362
Following this logic, the spell just creates a new corpse, because the 'original form' could be as little as a piece of a dead humanoid. Someone's severed toe isn't capable of anything.

For the spell to function at all, it has to be capable of creating a fully functional body. And it'd be kind of weird to nerf a different player's spell just so a different player can continue jerking off to their amputee fetish.

Yeah definetly nogames and no models

Honestly, the Alpha Legion would be the worst one to have female members, since their deal is that they're all supposed to look the same. I could see them doing female Chaos Marines at some point, though. Maybe Fabius Bile perfects the Gland Hounds using reverse-engineered Primaris biotechnology or something. Or maybe have female sorcerer Marines who are particularly accomplished chaos witches given non-standard bio augments like Kor Phaeron's to make them more survivable for supporting CSM warbands.

For the Ecclesiarchs to have a harem of bodyguards. Read, lorelet.

There are already female Chaos Legionnaires, they're just not technically Astartes, as that's a specific set of organs and composition engineered to work specifically on men.

Bile's "New Men" are effectively a matriarchy

Casters 1000% need combos, if you just try to pit a single, average caster (even a Level 20 one) against a Grim Reaper, that caster is GOING to die. You can bring up edge case "oh but what if they bring this hyper-specific combination of spells and effects" but literally how is that any different from the Barbarian using his wealth to buy his own buffs or effects to help boost his numbers? Even then, you're making quite a big deal about it being *so* complicated to get those big numbers by... *checks notes* having a few buffs that each add a flat numerical bonus to ALL of his attack rolls.

>>97173736
>Scarred Wanderer
This guy isn't even that strong compared to what he could be, considering that his base Strength before raging is a measly 14. I've seen secondary martials with higher starting strength score than that at level 1, and this guy is level 20. A normally built PC at this level would likely have at least another +4-+5 over this guy's build at this level just as a baseline.

>Six spells per fight is a rather harsh expense compared to the blunt DPR race, and creates a rather silly skill floor for the side that is, again, supposed to be the low-skill base-load to trudge through a long series of petty shit.
first, none of the 3 examples, are 'petty shit'. They are quite the opposite.
neither does DPR directly applies at these CRs - if your DM has these stand still and trade full round attacks against your party, he isn't doing it right.

your melee character won't even be able to pin any of these opponents to a fight without caster support. Its not a grapple system issue, you are basically asking to fight powerful magical creatures without powerful magical backup and again, that's not going to happen regardless of what system you use.

>As is the Barbarian's JOB is "beat in the face of giants by being even meaner than them"
don't know where you are getting that from. sounds like you want your barbarian to solo everything put in front of him. according to you he is supposed to
> trudge through a long series of petty shit.
and also
>beat in the face of giants by being even meaner than them
so I assume also solo the non-petty shit

>I'm keeping the goalpost at "but casters don't need combos"
in my experience, they very much do. both within the scope of a single deadly encounter and much more so in the scope of game play leading up to said encounter.
Outside the white room, casters are relatively easy to drain of resources, they have less hit points, they have worse saves overall.

ambushes and hit and run tactics whittle them down pretty reliably
Maybe you are assuming a fully rested caster against one of these, but none of these creatures are meant to be put out solo against a fresh threat. They are leaders meant to have a ton of minions to throw up while they can gauge and exhaust the threat.

Even if you do pit such a caster there - save or suck spells have this problem where the 'save' part actually does come up a lot. and than without backup, the caster dies.

Thread #01 Winter Wonderland.

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97089644

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.

I suppose I can kind of see your point, but the one I was trying to make is there there wasn't enough to Tek War to make into an RPG. It's honestly baffling that they were able to stretch out it's paper thin premise into a bad Build Engine video game out of it.

That's exactly the sort of victim fetishist shit I'm talking about. There's a huge amount of context you're ignoring so you can spin a lame ending where they pulled back, were probably forced to, from having any consequences for any major special characters.
There were zero consequences for the Imperium from EoT until 8th, which retconned a bunch of shit also where it's basically a new take on the same event. If Chaos won SoC nothing would happen either, just like in 40k.

>>97175334
>it's a very let-downer ending.
For absolutely everyone involved.
>>
>>97175358
Yeah, cause that's the last time Archaon was mentioned in the actual after-action report. Like, what else did you want me to point out? How Teclis just fucking one-shots all the daemons hanging out with Archaon, and then also fucks off from the narrative? How the Von Carsteins just show up at the last second to pick off the few thousand survivors before, too, fucking off entirely? How it was implied that the entire goddamn final battle involved Boris Toddbringer and Khazarak One-Eye playing a game of Tom and Jerry while their allies were dying like rats? Should I point out that fucking Grimgor shows up right out of the woods to rip Valten and Luthor Huss's army to shreds, which only makes them shrug their shoulders and leave them to hold back Grimgor by themselves because they're too busy personally hunting down Archaon? What else do you need, you baby?
>>
>>97175380
Two wrongs don't make a right.
>>
>>97175380
>If Chaos won SoC nothing would happen either
Eh, they'd probably have sold some "empire divided" armies and depicted Archaon's forces as the new focal point big villain to beat beyond Storm of Chaos, probably. It was pretty evident that they only initiated the entire thing to involve smashing the Empire to up the stakes on the whole "world is potentially ending" bit.
>>
>>97175431
NTA. The other anon is right. Much as EoT amounted to nothing, even with Chaos winning. SoC would have amounted to nothing even if Chaos won.
GW did not want to change the status quo and advance the setting in either fantasy and 40K. They were only forced to advance the setting in WF and 40K adecade later because of bad sales.

Sorry for effortposting your Friday

1. What systems have you found that have made combat engaging?
2. What do you think is a satisfying duration for most fights? Over quickly? Or minimal resolution (followed by optional exposition)
3. Do you find a sort of "bidding" of dice (such as in Riddle of Steel and her derivatives) fun? Or do you prefer the dice that you roll to be fairly consistent/static in their outcomes?
4. Do you find "maneuvers"- like in Mythras- fun? Do you find that tracking a number of maneuvers grinds combat resolution down too slowly? What about a sort of freeform ability to spend "bonus success" on maneuvers (sort of "fiction first")?

I'm thinking about my system. It's very inspired by Mythras, Forbidden Lands, and Riddle of Steel but I'm unsatisfied with it. I'd like to really look at the fundamentals- the statistics, the base mechanics, the speed of resolving each round- before tacking on additional details. Right now, I have attacker declaring an attack and defender declaring a reaction (dodge, parry, or block with shield), rolling a dice pool (attribute+professional rank+gear bonus) and comparing successes. Extra successes are spent on dealing more damage or performing maneuvers. I'm curious if anyone here has experiences in systems that they've found particularly fun, fast, engaging, and place a lot of decision pressure on the player (to replicate- in a way- the stress of combat)

Wanted to run 5.5e but the only spells are ones tagged ritual. Would it work?
>>
>>97175113
You'd probably want to actually ask /5eg/ for that.
Short answer is no though. There's like 3 dozen rituals in the game, and pretty much every spellcaster and magical subclass would need a heavy revamp.
I'd suggest looking into Adventures in Middle-Earth if you really want a low-magic 5e variant.

Sure, here are the recent playtest rules. You're welcome to look at the mechanics in detail.

I've made some changes:
- 6= success was too prohibitive in frequency or number of successes. I've run a few thousand monte carlo simulations with 5 OR 6 = success and 6 explodes (once) and it's giving far more satisfying combats that tend to be much more decisive and faster.
- With these changes, in person playtesting between equally skilled fighters usually lasts 7-12 minutes before one suffers a major injury and must concede (or dies, or exhausts). Weaker characters tend to win or lose within 2-3 exchanges (reliably <10 minutes).
- Endurance thresholds are going to replace the current system, with bonus dice being added as your opponent begins to tire out.
- There's a lot of work to be done with the injury system (highly inspired by Tales from Elsewhere, but I like my version more).
-Exploits (my version of maneuvers or special effects) need a lot of work and balancing.

Obviously, I don't know if this scratches your itch but take a peek if you'd like: https://files.catbox.moe/785cmx.pdf

>>97174640
Oh, I absolutely agree with you that efficiency as I define it doesn't necessarily mean more fun. I do think there's a "baby bear" middle ground

Holy shit, just finished Ashes of the Imperium.

What a display of complete idiocy, how the hell does ROBOUTE FUCKING GUILLIMAN get constantly, and reliably outwitted by a fucking Apothecary noone's ever heard of?

And the cherry on the cake of pure shit of course, is that the only reason the UMs didn't just orbitally annihilate the Luna Citadel is to "preserve the Gene-looms" which the Traitors naturally destroyed before allowing them to fall into Loyalist hands again.

The book is just an endless list of retarded strategic decisions and tactical blunders by the one Legion that supposedly avoids making those above all other Legions.

I am thoroughly disappointed in this retarded book, there were a million ways to make the Sons of Horus and other traitors look decent by getting away from the Sol System, but making the UMs look completely incompetent and getting bogged down in a bargain bin "Iron Cage"

Adding insult to injury, the Mary Sue Apothecary who slaughters a whole command squad wins a duel with a honor guard because "the Ultramarine didn't really want to be here"
Chris Wraight must have been smoking some proper dogshit when writing this drivel.

it works great on an open tabletop. People stopped buying infinity because metal prices went up 400% and they had to transition to shitty forgeworld resin and forgeworld prices while not having nostalgia-goggles of braindead 40k players willing to buy shitty overpriced resin in a gay setting.
The rules themselves were a blast.
The free reactions doesn't work on wide open table, they'd have to split reactions into paid-reactions and free-reactions and make paid-reactions like shooting a moving unit cost points like reaction points in horus heresy already do.

also, there's zero reason why a game benefits from a wide open bowling ball tabletop. Neither horus heresy or 40k are playable without heavy terrain with their trash rules already. Have you not seen tournament layouts in the last 10 years?!

My logic is: I have the books for personal use, and I was going to upload them for my friends anyway. Since that's basically a trove, I might as well upload my books to a burner account, set up a couple backups and a redirect, and share them with you fine gentlemen here.

Discuss and post elves. Elf lore, gameplay, and art are all appreciated.

What if Wood Elves rode around on...
To protect the woodlands lakes and rivers, they ride on Dire Geese. Would they be lethal? What would that be like?

The way they treat non usa customers is pretty fucking shitty. Not unexpected given their culture with the whole gene thing. It was hilarious that the tariff situation made them beg for money and finally start getting orders out from more realistic international hubs , not becasue they wanted to do right by customers, but because they were on the verge of being broke. And theyre already trying to claw it back. Its crazy , but the alternative companies want double or triple the price for what often is broken stuff (compass) so we cant win

Cloudspire is finished. Is it worth getting into?
>>
>>97175395
Only if you got someone else as autistic as you are.
Cloudspire shares the same problem as Mage Wars Arena. The skill FLOOR is way too high for many to really get into it much and as such most will never dedicate enough time to it to see it shine. If you do dedicate the time to it? Fantastic game with enough depth to last a literal lifetime.
