The Great Hunger Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. >>96632123>SchwarzlosesThat looks like what the MHI are lugging around
>>96632123I reiterate my point.Horrible.
>>96631582It can't be something that would upset the status quo of trench warfare and can't be a technological leap from what we've already seen within the setting. For example, afaik there's no example of transistors or complex electronics that would allow anything that relies on your computers to work however you could have like an AR-15 despite being a "modern" rifle as it's just a machined rifle at the end of the day which there are examples of older machined rifles in the art and on models.
>>96632153The Iran-Iraq war in the 80s relied on trench warfare, too. There's also the Russo-Ukraine war, but that's more due to the proliferation of drones than artillery. If you really wanted to put in 'future tech' there is the Nazi infrared from WW2 but even then it would likely be ~magic~
>>96632349I think one of the biggest reasons it looks off is because of how industrial manufacturing developed with specialized precision tools and so on. It just looks like the setting when you imagine a suit of machine armor has to heat giant sheets of metal manually hammered out and shaped with a hydraulic hammer and press, it meshes together well with the late medieval armors as well, the less fancy ones at least. It has this look of people with regular hand tools could reasonably work on and maintain them whereas modern rifles are taken apart in 25 pieces with 9 different hex keys

I usually try to take the most conservative approach to the creation of my sheets, and for the simple sake of not wanting to over-inflate things I try to employ the most minimally applicable stats as I can to justify stats.I say all of this to preclude the fact that by my analysis of Shiori's lore, I could not force it within any level of justifiable logic to make her anything other than a level 20 Wizard with the Immortality discovery. There's just way too many questions, and every instance she appears in she's shown to be in full control of the situation, and as the "boss" of Advent she by that logic has to be stronger than the entirety of the rest of her group. As always, if any of you wish to see the others I've done, you can find them here: https://x.com/DrumerThead/status/1972053922610356382
>>96628359You don't HAVE to use the favored weapon of your deity, the upgraded dice for the sub d6 weapons certainly isn't worth bothering with them for the most part. Champion has full on Martial Proficiency you aren't being taxed like the Cleric Subclasses are on that side.Reach weapons can exploit nimble reprisal nearly as efficiently as ranged weapons (specially if you get enlarge down the line). As I said, having access to Heavy Armor (and by extension Full Plate) as well as the best armor progression in the game means that DEX is a trap (up to a degree because of how Bulwark works). You don't NEED Dex and can invest those boosts in much more valuable things (CON and WIS for example) since Bulwark and champion save progression covers for your Reflex Saves (the only thing that where dex will matter). Charisma is VERY secondary to Constitution. Unless you are using it for something tangible (Marshal for the stances, Multiclass Archetypes for the dead levels) you don't even need it. The persistent damage from your reaction comes VERY late and is VERY WEAK when it does, its entire point is to trigger weaknesses and for that you need a single point. Trick Magic Item is particularly expensive action wise, it DOES have valuable use cases (Tailwind, Ant Haul, False Vitality wands), but be careful because as a Martial with a weapon, shield and armor your finances are going to be VERY tight.CON is hitpoints and fort saves which are significantly more valuable than the sliver of Ref fails that Bulwark doesn't catch.I hope you are picking Pilgrim for flavor alone because attribute wise its not good and skill wise there's other FAR better options.
"I try to create a lot of situations in which the player has to face small but crucial choices. My device is 'one good for one evil'. Miniatures suck, are too expensive, take too long to paint, and don't do what minis need to do in tabletop RPGs -- THEY AREN'T MODULAR.If you start a campaign and your fighter begins with studded leather and a shortsword, you'll probably have splint by level 3 and a great-axe by level 4.And now your miniature sucks and doesn't look like your character. So instead we need MODULAR minis - like LEGO block minifigures. I have hundreds of cheap ripoff LEGO minifigs for my 5e 2024 D&D campaign now. They have tradeable armors, weapons, helmets, hair, pants, shields, etc. And the badguy monsters for the campaign are massive and huge (and cheap).Pic is a $2 custom knight. If my players kill one, they can take the armor and wear it on their minifig, and now their minifigure looks completely different. (I made a video on the topic but the mods don't want videos posted in /tg/ for some strange reason).
>>96632357Shaggy? what happened to you?
>>96631909I just use minis that look cool, they don't need to fit the character -that- much.I did have some generic human woman holding a staff, used it for a female catfolk bard, just out of inspiration decided to modify a bit to add cat ears and tail, adding a bit more color and to turn the staff into a thyrsus. The process was completely unnecessary but fun.

How the fuck does this even work?I wanted to try giving Twilight 2000 a go, but Im having a hard time finding a group and I don't feel ready yet to be a GM.Then i noticed some people mentioning that they like playing it solo, but i don't really understand.Isn't the whole point of this to play with people? How do you handle being a GM controlling everything trying to kill the player if you are also the payer? How do you handle the unravelling story of a module or a campaign as a player if you already know it as a GM?What's really stopping you from fudging your own rolls every time so you win all the time?Whats the point of roleplaying if you are basically mumbling by yourself? How do you get fun out of this?Im not really sure if I should give it a go, or instead just try to do my homework and attempt to be a GM for once.
>>96632188Consider finding a group instead of doing your taxes as a hobby.
>>96632188What's really stopping you from fudging your own rolls every time so you win all the timebecause if you have half a brain you'll realise how anti fun that would be. Alignment causes brain damage because you have people unironically saying Hitler was Good because he thought it was good to shove Jewish kids into gas chambers. The whole point of a universe where morality is baked into its fabric is that it tells you that those things are bad.

>>96632404>>96632424you're in a weird convo that I'm not following, but I wanted to say that PbtA games in general have that retarded idea of describing it as "say this" when it's clearly is meant to be read as "say something that means this". By context cues you get that you're not supposed to read verbatim, in practice you'd be retarded if you did that, but the wording says to read it out loud. It's weird. It might be a retard filter.

She has a reputation to maintain, and being tutored by a pipsqueaks doesn't mesh well with her image or her ego. Yaya's too nice and naive- it grosses Sumi out. It's not that she believes kindness is weakness or anything, but Yaya wouldn't be much fun for her to tease and her attitude reminds her too much of her younger self.So she's going to avoid Yaya like the plague and cringe inside whenever they interact unless given a good reason to change her tune. Using her as an in with the student council is one, and needing her technical expertise for help with an elaborate art installment she's dreamed up is another. Yaya's probably one of the better picks for a partner since she's better equipped to deal with Sumi wanting to start over when they're halfway done because decided the whole project was unsalvageable for a reason most people won't notice.

I'm wanting to run a scifi campaign for my group and I am curious if anyone here has run and or knows of any good systems that don't have a setting attached to it (or at least is easy to ignore). I know Savage Worlds has a sci fi companion and I do have M-Space which is a hack of Mythras for scifi games. I am hoping to be able to do something more hard sci fi with the campaign if that helps.

Pulp/serial flavored, of course.Barbarians of the Aftermath can do sci-fi settings as well as post-apoc, but it's pretty rough and more of a bolt-on for the actual Barbarians of Lemuria.Savage Worlds, but you already mentioned that.GURPS Space leans towards the harder end of sci-fi, surprising no one. Much more so than the pulpier options that already came up. Personally I just use it for planet generation.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). not exactly the thread to ask, but it does apply to campaign creators. have you ever thought about running some sort of fantasy army-themed rpg and using total war's custom battles (or something like dominions) for combat?im probably overlooking something, but it sounds like it could be cool.
I was thinking about necromancy in typical-ish D&D settings. I think most kings and lords would punish the raising of zombies and skeletons with death. A lot of people have already talked about the risks raising these undead create for other people. They are beings of negative energy, they will kill others if control is lost, and so forth. But also, for your typical medieval-esque setting, undead would represent an enormous threat to the power of kings and lords. A single serf caught carrying weapons in the wrong circumstances could already face harsh punishment. A single necromancer could create dozens of capable warriors from the local graveyard. That's a huge rival to your power. In the real medieval ages the death penalty was given more freely than today. Prison as a punishment was a little less practical, so enslavement and corporeal punishment was more common. A necromancer is a dangerous person to keep a slave, and a couple lashes won't stop them, so execution, which is already the standard punishment for murder, makes a lot of sense. With the danger they pose to common people you won't face much resistance from the peasants.

Our DM passed away a few weeks ago. Ive been reminiscing about the games we played and Ive been remembering one of my favorite characters of his.For my very first campaign (2e AD&D) he made a human fighter named Pierce Preston Yorkford The Fourth. Wore no armor and fought with an estoc. He had a 2% per level of resisting any magical effect. His notable accomplishments were>jumping infront of a red dragon's breath attack (and making his magic resistance) to save a half drow/elf princess>getting stabbed in the heart before killing a death knight and taking its cursed sword which kept him 'alive' while slowly corrupting him>purified himself by swimming in a green river at the bottom of a grand canyon>courted the half drow princess and training her as his cohort>repelling a massive undead invasion and slaying their lich king>gave up part of his soul to save the half drow princess after an explosion nearly killed her>marrying the princess and later having 2 half elf children with her>breaking the back of a massive orc horde>murdered another PC after she put a demon in his infant daughter in exchange for power (and to cure her blindness)>traveled the astral sea searching for a way to seperate the demonic essence woven into his daughter's soul>saved an angel and a succubus from a perverted wizard that merged them together>met Bastet and played with millions of cats before taking three for himself and his childrenComment too long.
