It's finally here!>what is curseborne?Curseborne is the newest Onyx Path Publishing TTRPG on dark urban fantasy genre. It's about being unapologetic monsters in a world where being monstrous is the least of your worries. In Curseborne, you play as Accursed, descendants of monstrous Lineages lurking in a modern world that closely resembles our own. You rebel against the ancient feuds between these entwined families, as well as against the web of curses that bind you, while fending off inhuman antagonistsseeking to claim — or reclaim — your power.>early access download (it's a zip, and the folder is in alphabetical order so go search for it)gofile <dot> io/d/O6yTIy>official websitehttps://www.curseborne.com/>OPP forumhttps://forum.theonyxpath.com/forum/main-category/curseborne>Thread QuestionNow that it's finaly released for early access, what's your opinion?

>>96694811hidden
>>96694778It's probably not you but I don't think it's too bad on that front. A lot of the book is in-character (which I don't love) so there are different characters talking so there isn't a single voice but I think they're playing towards a lot of the same themes. >>96694811Neither. There isn't a masquerade and the supernatural is more out in the open but it's not a fully accepted fact of life where everyone gets along. There is a cultural shift towards belief in the supernatural, and people tend to be much more superstitious, but it's not absolute and there are plenty of things that do not want you to know they're there. There might be an openly practicing witch and she might offer her services, and her customers might think she's supernatural, and people aren't likely to to call you insane for believing it, but not everyone is going to immediately go "ah, yes, witches are real". I think it's hitting a good balance between hidden dark corners without everything being a secret society, and also having enough difference from our world without feeling like it's a full on fantasy world.
>>96694982Honestly, it feels completely toothless and out of shape. The art doesn't help.
>>96695298I think most of it is pretty good. I don't love some of the photobashed stuff but most of it isn't so I can't complain too much. How do you mean "toothless" though?

Writing General: 'library' editionWelcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product. As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. >>96644454What happened to the blue girl?>>96644491I loathe my glacial reading pace, does anyone have tips for increasing speed while also maintaining comprehension? I find when I turn off the internal narration in my brain I'm not actually reading.
>>96688538Savor. Just keep reading. Look up words when you don't know them. You will get more developed in your ability to comprehend as you go. Don't rely on speed reading techniques.
>>96644491I visited the library often this year while unemployed. but I'm about to be shackled again so that gets harder to do. I have three bookshelves I share, latest find is Welcome to the Monkey House. I'm currently reading All Quiet on the Western Front, The Crystal Shard, and last book I bought for full price was Monalisa Overdrive since it's impossible to borrow, looking forward to starting that next once one or both of the current ones are done. I have a hard time chewing on only one story at a time.
>>96688538>does anyone have tips for increasing speed while also maintaining comprehension?Well, if anyone ever invents time travel you could go back a couple of decades and make yourself read more as a small child. That's definitely crucial. Although I suppose if time travel existed you would already have done that and we wouldn't be having this conversation.Honestly, like so many skills the key is just repetition. Don't overthink it, don't confuse things with fancy techniques. Just find things you enjoy reading and let yourself pick it up naturally by just immersing yourself in it.That said, if you have undiagnosed dyslexia or something like that, there are specialised fonts that can help. It also sometimes helps to get your eyes tested; if your vision is a little off it might be forcing your brain to do a bit of extra processing to work out what the words say. It's quite easy to have vision that's good enough to get by in day to day life but could still be improved with glasses. (likewise, if you already have glasses your proscription might be a little off). I mean, it's probably not that, but it's worth checking. >>96689346All Quiet On The Western Front is one of those books I've always meant to read but never got around to. Is it any good?

How do you come up with fantasy names for elves and dwarves and the like?

>>96639621I make them up
>>96639621East Asian elves, Mesopotamian dwarves, Germanic beastfolk, Mediterranean humans, South Asian planetouched or setting-equivalent
>>96695391Oh, and Celtic orcs
>>96639621For Dwarves I just try to make Tolkien sounding names. Thoroun, Snoli, Thuriz, Nilni, Thanuz, Fundig, Boriz, etc. Then I give them a patronymic surname, ban (son of), bar (daughter of), or fro (wife of) something or other. So you could have Thoroun ban Thanuz, and his wife might be Umili fro Thoroun. And they might add their clan name to that. And this full name would be their secret name only fellow dwarves know, and other races would know only their first name and a nickname. So Thoroun might be Thoroun ban Thanuz Nainazar to dwarves, but Thoroun Steeltoe to humans

>>96695249It is one reason for why the Solaroids aren't good splat foils to Solars. The writers are writing the splats as characters instead of classes or castes; which may explain Exigents.Abyssals whitewash their future. While Infernals whitewash the past. And 3e!Infernals replace them as "good guys with bad reputation".
>>96695287>They need to lean harder into being theoir own distinct things. Why?They are all Solars. They reflect each other:>The passinate hero>The nihilist hero>The fallen hero
>>96695345I just feel that Solars are easily able to be all three and the Abyssals and Infernals should lean harder into being more of Death and of Hell instead.
>>96695345Not really, it was vanilla Solars who committed those atrocities during the first age.

>>96695280I was thinking about this more and I like the idea that if you manage to reach the bottom of the labyrinth without being corrupted then you encounter the part of the Wyrm that isn't corrupted. Only 2 Black Spiral dancers have made it all the way and both became powerful wyrm spirits. Maybe you get some sort of insane blessing from the uncorrupted wyrm.
