So, now you need to decide. Do you close your eyes to what you've seen and go back to sleep? Or do you come with this psycho burnout and do the impossible against the unbelievable and keep the future at bay for another day? What's it going to be? In or out?Yeah? >>97206663Annoyingly this might actually be true.I understand that this elfgame hews far closer to the real world than the average, but it is still fundamentally an elfgame - the writers are far too into spoiling any escapism available in the recent modern splats. On the upside apparently Operational Histories is bringing good game as far as a wealth of hooks, even if I have to read hundreds of pages of crap althistory to get to them.Kidding I'll wait for other people to mention them I'm not reading that shit.
>>97206476despite the presentation and posturing, hardly anything in the new DG is topical or current. the only real exceptions are when someone has a cause du jour, and even then it's typically very surface level like god's teeth but also iconoclasts and the two afghan ones. it just doesnt seem like they're very interested in the modern day setting
Why is everything Caleb writes so shit? Why is Arc Dream so against the fun of their old material now?

Tolkien is to blame for the state of 5e and generic fantasy that you see in TTRPGs. We wouldn't have horrible big fat fantasy books, nor power fantasy / wish fulfilment, which you find in scaling levels through so-called "XP". Fantasy used to be an experimental, creative, and wild genre filled with mad imagination; now, it is all wooden and samey. >tl;drListen to this:https://voca.ro/1Rwc7lMX0hfT

>>97210103NTA but the third options sounds pretty cool. Is that realistic for a Garou to serve the Wyrm like that without being an obvious BSD or did you mean the leader of the sept in the foreign country is serving the Wyrm.
>>97209808No, always been a Lord
>>97210158I meant whoever's in charge of the players or whatever sept they belong to. There are Gifts designed to help Wyrm-serving werewolves hide their Wyrm taint, though it's also possible that the leader isn't aware that he's serving the Wyrm. He could serve a totem spirit that covertly serves the Wyrm, he could suffer from some sort of derangement (especially if he's a Silver Fang) that makes him susceptible to the Wyrm's influence, he could suffer from a terrible battle scar that leaves him permanently tainted and vulnerable to the Wyrm's influence, perhaps a bane invades his dreams and tries to influence him that way, or maybe it directly tries to puppeteer him. Lots of options.
>Hunter: the PrimordialI've said it before but that's the plot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Ever had to say fuck it this is above our paygrade, and just bail from a dungeon?I get that GM probably put some amount of effort into preparing it and skipping the place would put that to waste, but when the very first encounter makes it painfully obvious pushing on would be suicidal, nobody can really blame the party for doing literally anything else, right?

Fact is, the average space marine 2 players doesnt give a singular shit about this. In fact, societ at large is giving up on identity politics. Which means, people have literally just stopped caring whether or not something is black or whitewashed as long as its not being shoved down your throat. In this case, its not, because most players use helmets anyways. Even I, who used to care about wokeists inserting minority characters where they dont belong, couldnt give two shits about this. Call me when the make female space marines, I will care then.
>>97208609Well yes, because you're trying to claim credit for shit you didn't do, but also literally everyone is a descendant of the Egyptian Pharaohs. You, me, that Chinese guy in the corner. Everyone.
>>97210286No they're not. That's a profoundly stupid thing to say.
Hey /tg/ I'm playtesting an initiative system that's been tried before in other systems and is detailed nicely on "Tabletop Curiosity Cabinet"The system uses Meyer (and Kieth Farrell's modern adaptation) of "Vor, Nach, Gleich, Indes" as steps in a fight.Basically, the player with the initiative chooses an action ("Vor"). The enemy chooses a reponse ("Nach"). The dice are rolled to determine an outcome ("Gleich") and the movement into the next state ("Indes").Practically it looks like: Player A chooses a bind. Player B chooses to parry. Both players resolve a dice roll. The resolution will determine who has initiative for the next system.Very fencing-like, and makes initiative more of a "push-pull" based on success rather than a "you-go, I-go" traditional style.I believe systems like TRoS and their derivatives (like Song of Swords) use a similar sort of initiative style. My questions for the thread:1. While this system works pretty well for individual combats, it struggles when there are multiple combatants. It also falls into the same trap of "you go, I go" which is; in a real fight, you're probably waiting for an opening (e.g. an enemy attacking an ally) to take advantage of in order to strike. I wonder if anyone has creative solutions to this problem?2. Are there initiative systems that you find work well? Anyone forego initiative entirely in favor of fully narrative initiative (e.g. Daggerheart)?
>>97202682What the fuck are you possibly talking about?Let's make up two hypothetical systems.System A is a very crunchy, very simulationist system. It also has a slight tendency to favour (let's say) wizards in terms of combat outcomes, because of various emergent properties of the rules.System B is a post-it note with "whatever the GM thinks should happen, happens" written on it.System A is unbalanced, because one type of character is structurally advantaged. System B is perfectly balanced because it doesn't recognise any difference between characters at all.
>>97202682I'm not a fan of narrative games, but most account for success/failure and aren't negotiable mechanically. Meaning, you'll roll and if you succeed, you succeed. So if your intent is "I'm going to sneak into the palace" and you roll to see if that works, narrative games tend to pull back the camera a little bit from each individual roll and simply say, "okay you succeeded, we can describe what that success looks like".I'm speaking very broadly because so many games do this differently. >>97207586I like where this is going and thought about something like this as well. Here's where I got stuck (maybe you have ideas): If we have sort of rock-paper scissors style attacks -> is this resolved simultaneously and chosen simultaneously? If yes, then success or failure is sort of happenstance and based on getting lucky with the chosen maneuver (Burning Wheel, for instance, suffers from this). If no, then I would assume the person with the initiative gets to choose their maneuver second (otherwise they're penalized for having their maneuver), in which case it just reduces to "okay you picked paper? I pick scissors, then".

>>97207203>gamitht
>>97207595>one player in system B bought the GM a pizza, now the GM thinks everything that happens with that player's character should be goodSuper impartial and balanced game design.

>Elves teach humans magic
>>97204027In The Nature of Middle-earth, Tolkien notes that Elves have far more control over their bodies. It’s highly probable that their waste is minimal because their absorption is so high, and their waste management would be handled with the same artistic grace as their architecture. It wouldn't even stink - elves don't get sick because their internal "flora" is in perfect harmony between their spirit (fëa) and body (hröa). They don't have the putrefaction bacteria that cause the unpleasant aromas we humans deal with. If Galadriel stuffed herself full of lembas it would probably just result in a highly concentrated, fiber-rich byproduct of Aman-corn.
