I've been playing games for almost two decades now and people who pump Charisma are consistently the most useless faggots in every party. And this remained true even during the very few times I have attempted it myself.

I have no choice but to arrive at the conclusion that Charisma and every one of its iterations across every fucking game ever is just genuinely useless placebo dog shit. And when pressed to justify their investment charismafaggots always ramble about how good it is in real life as if that has any fucking bearing at all on TTRPGs.

Besides, it's not that good in real life either. Actors and performers were considered on the same level as prostitutes in status for most of history.

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session.
Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away.
And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.

Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch.
Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings?

I wasn't the poster you original responded to. I was just countering your supposition that random generation inherently generates imbalanced characters. 4e pretty much only includes the 3 to 18 stat curve in character creation due to it being a D&D sacred cow. That doesn't mean that in other games stats generated with rolls of 3d6 would cause characters to under perform. 4e is just tuned with a "16" being the expected minimum value for a main stat which means that only about 4.62% of 3d6 rolls are viable main stat rolls.

But also, generally in Cyberpunk settings crime is so rampant that the cops can't afford to treat armed gangs with the same seriousness that irl cops do. Your gang could just be one amongst hundreds operating in just that city. A shootout that tears up half a city block might be a global news event today, but in a Cyberpunk setting it's just another Tuesday. Much as the cops might like to mobilise the whole department to hunt them down, there are a dozen other calls that are as serious or even moreso that they have to respond to.

Hi guys, I'm working on a new adventure I'm about to kick off and I'm thinking of giving the party rogue a chance to get mixed up with some fellow criminals and maybe join in on a heist plot, but I'm struggling a bit to come up with ideas of how to do that organically in a new area with no pre-existing contacts, thieves generally being rather notorious for keeping their business to themselves.
The area is a mining town and I'm thinking of potentially having a ring of thieves there plotting to rob eg the mining company payroll or the local merchant bank, but the challenge is figuring out an "in" for my player.
I'm thinking they might notice someone suspicious casing the target or something? Or maybe lifting a key off a guard?
Another idea I had was that a miner or other local could mention that an out-of-towner they didn't know had paid or offered to pay unexpectedly well for some information to do with the target, person being asked not sure why but seemed a bit fishy.
Still a bit unclear on how they could actually integrate themselves with the gang after a "tip-off" like this though
Any other suggestions for hooks I could use or how I might further develop this idea? I'm pretty new to all this.

Yeah nah, if it doesn't happen then it doesn't happen but I'm thinking I'll drop a hint or two that I can develop if the player goes for it. If they don't pursue the lead I might have the robbery go off as an event at some point regardless, to whatever result.

Good ideas, but I figure generally a string of thieves working a big score wouldn't want to draw too much attention to themselves by doing other jobs on the side, that's why I was thinking of lifting an office or key or something that'd actually be working towards the main robbery. Having them try the job and botch it feels a bit dicey because how would that not result in the kind of heat that'd make them hesitate over going ahead with the job?

I dunno if most groups would just suddenly bring in a new member on a job who they've never met before and have no references for, but I've kinda been thinking maybe the angle could be like they know they've been made so they offer to cut the new guy in to guarantee they don't rat.
I guess it could also just be that they're having trouble working out all the details and think they need one more guy to pull it off, but it's a little less compelling maybe?

Not him, but the difference is that if it's the former, the issue is probably lack of focus and ability to sit your ass down to analise and think your ideas through in depth and break them down/organise them into something more tangible instead of just vibing and daydreaming (which can stem from things like dopamine addiction, ADHD, overal lack of discipline, too many distractions etc.)

Meanwhile if it's the latter, OP is clearly able to come up with well thought out and polished ideas, but has issues fitting them into a larger conceptual framework of narrative, quests, locations, lore etc., in which case he could probably just use more inspiration, some examples to rip off and learn from or some overall theory of story/world construction

Well I’ve found that typically the latter comes after the former. At least when making characters. I’m able to focus down one idea and build towards it with concrete character traits and life events into what made him that idea of a character. It’s a lot of fun.

For building a setting its different for me somehow. I build around concepts and gossamer daydream ideas the same way and the end product sucks. I know cause my group hates my settings where in contrast they really like my characters. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong with building creative ideas as a dm I thought I could just show up and make something but it’s a lot harder than that, which I can appreciate now.

An orc shouldn't have a too long nose, big ears, or a high forehead, because this makes it look intelligent and cultured. It shouldn't have large, boar-like teeth like the Warcraft orcs. That looks silly (how do they sound when they talk?). Its face shouldn't resemble a boar's either, it is dumb but not dumb like a pig. Yes and no, one of their leader units rides a bug that is considered a vehicle which is not permitted in standard games.
Other anon replying to you apparently plays with house rules that deal with this and has forgotten that that is not RAW, or has forgotten that the unit exists due to never using it because of this.
This unit is their main gimmick, creating dust storms to give their aforementioned "ranger" role a place on the battlefield, that being said they are lore-wise NOT IN THE HIVE and were very specifically designed for that specific game type.
If you don't know this you're new, so new that you shouldn't be fucking around with mary sues and niches, you should stick to one of the base gang houses.

Other anons have covered it rather well, my two cents is that like Enforcers, Spyrers, Venators and Malstrain they are a gang best left to the Game Master to play as NPCs so the GM can be a part of the playing without having your GM play favourite with their own personal gang, each of those choices only properly fitting in certain scenario types and none of them truly being "gangs" so the GM cycles between them through a campaign.

Kiss is a lot more pop sound, in a way I don't think fits the dark cyberpunk setting. Too hopeful, power of friends type.
I respect it, tho, because it cleaves to the heart of the series, that being a group of women trying their damndest to make a better world.
Regardless, it is bittersweet, because we will never have this kind of sound, this, dare I say, soul, again. I stand with you, anon, in love for days long past, never to return.

Oh. Make no mistake, in 2011 formats Maxx "C" is actually a very balanced card. It is designed specifically for this time period. In these formats the vast majority of decks can genuinely just stop their thing and prepare to do it again next turn and not lose due to it most of the time. Maxx "C" is not hitting at all decks like Dino Rabbit or HERO Beat as they don´t special summon that much, so Maxx "C" isn´t a must include for every matchup. Most of the time it woulnd´t give you more than 2 to 3 draws. The thing with "C" being broken in current times is that is a card from a very different era put in a world where you need to special summon to even breath and if you do not build a board ASAP, you will just be killed and if you still special summon, they will draw handtraps to make your boards less menacing and just kill you with every other card they drew.

Yeah, there are some cards that you can top deck that can change results entirely like Monster Reborn, Dark Hole or other late game strong cards like Miracle Fusion

The strongest structure decks are the RDA structure deck and the Raidraptor structure deck but since those are wombo combo decks they might not suit your preferred playstyle.
You can try building Labrynth since Konami is doing that bundle thing with a bunch of packs and accesories. It's not going to be cheap but you can always craft the rest of the cards that you need and dismantle any URs/SRs that you won't play.

The only way Yu-Gi-Oh can become popular again is if Konami actually embraces legacy formats and builds off of them instead of trying to make half assed measures like speed duels

Legacy formats are not going to move the needle at all. The only people that ask for "old yugioh" are the people that don't want to play yugioh anyways because their only experience with the game is playground rules with a bunch of pack filler cards rather than an established meta with a fixed card pool.

The moment these people run into a Reasoning Gate deck in GOAT they're dropping the game again.

And most relevantly on this topic, it can be used when you have already established a board, and most established boards are already capable of killing the opponent, much less when given an extra turn. It's partly playground Yugioh players.
Another is people who come in from other card games with in-built assumptions for how they should be, not really recognizing Yugioh is kinda a different genre of TCG.
A third is people that are brand new, because while there are some fanmade intros out there, the official Konami stuff is really bad at teaching the modern game. Pretty much just leaving you on trial and error, with often difficult to parse feedback for someone who is new.

Legacy formats at most address 1 and 2, and 1 will largely die off from being hit by decks like the Reasoning Gate you mentioned. 3 is honestly kinda put in a detrimental state because of a mix of older rulings not being communicated, erratas having cards do different stuff to what they say, etc.

Hmmm, alright then. I do agree with you I've never played Masters but besides the fact that there are no locals for it near me anyway I'd never try to get into it with all the bloat it has. Digimon is fine I haven't played it since like BT14 though and I think One Piece and Gundam are two of the worst games on the market, especially Gundam. So as far as Bandai games that just leaves Fusion World which also just happens to have a client unlike their other games which means I don't even have to leave my house to play it but I also just enjoy it more than their other games.
I really hope the Ki mechanic will be interesting. If it's just a generic power boost then I think that will be a disaster and I'll lose all hope in the game. I think counters wouldn't be the worst thing to add eventually even Digimon added them and that was always touted as a casual game.
