>>97708286He's going to try to hide in a force cage?Fuck it let the idiot get himself killed in the cage match, then when it drops you sweep in for the real showdown. Let him be the Vegeta warmup round, that's fine.
>>97708706The only thing I would tell them to do, is to not tell me what to do. That is hardly telling them how to live.
>>97708725back after the fightobjective of the map was to kill the boss, he wall jumped up to it and force caged himself in with it, while we cleaned up all the adds (no reinforcements)he basically took no damage due to hide looping + the boss just having not enough options to deal with him, but by the time we dealt with all the enemies, he only took 1 structure off the bossDM ended up fiating that "okay you fought for like 6 more rounds and beat him" because no one wanted to sit and watch him chip away at the boss's hp for that long while no one else got to playit was whatever. I was still frustrated because I would have actually dealt way more damage to it plus I didnt get my duel but it's whateverif we actually had to sit and wait for him to chip the boss to death I may have just left the table him forcecaging the boss shut off half of its shit though which ended up trivializing the encounterI still don't like how he keeps trying to main character himself into stuff but it may just be a symptom of the atlas being incredibly "main-charactery" of a mech I might say something to the DM. I just wish me or other players could have cool moments instead of him just jumping around the whole map and killing shit before we get to it.
Yesterday's HG session was pretty cool. We got to swat a bunch of GRELs riding hoverbikes. Some pretty cinematic moments happened. (Duelist Mamba missed a GREL by a hair's length from his vibrokatana, only for said Grel to get popped to smithereens by another Gear's AC round). Also it's neat to see how the various traits can give mechanical bonuses/maluses while supplying character flavor. I mean, it's cool on paper but better to see actually play out. The DM also came up with a nice system where our squad + allies + enemies all move around on a huge sector map of the badlands, and depending on our sensor range we can spot (and be spotted) by others, decide on whether to spring ambushes etc. It also takes stuff like fuel into account. For the next match we're finally going up against some Hovertanks, so the stakes will definitely be raised.

Writing General: 'psychopomps' editionWelcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product. As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time. There's a discord for writers herehttps://discord.gg/6AwKHGFThe previous thread can still be found in the archive here>>97133758And finally an archive of /tg/ fiction can be found here:http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (dead link, but may be resurrected one day)https://2d4chan.org/wiki/Storythread (page missing, wiki still up)Comment too long. >>97699716Death from the Seventh Seal present in my Mythic Bastionland campaign. I am yet to figure out how to utilize him.
>>97699716The elven psychopomp appears as a full on skeleton in a robe, grim reaper style. He used to be trapped in a cycle of killing his mother (who is a daughter of the Leviathan, and sort of a mother of monsters figure) and becoming his father, the First of the Dead, but that cycle broke when hell overran the elves' old home. Now he guides the souls of dead elves to the moon, since the Land of the Newly Dead was flooded by the abyss. He carries a silver blade given to him by the Lunar Queen, which is depicted varyingly as a scythe or a sword depending on context, and he carries the head of his father (who also looks like a skeleton, so it's just a skull) on his hip. The skull gives him weird advice sometimes, and is the combination of every iteration of his father from each iteration of the cycle, superimposed into a single being. When the elves eventually reclaim their home, he will gain flesh, and take on a profile of rebirth
Oh man this is like one of my favorite topics. >>97699716My book series resolves almost entirely about death and the concept of it. Its was conceptualized by my personal fears regarding the subject, as a way to cope. In the setting, Death is a character, arguably almost the main villain of the setting but its a bit more complicated. Everything regarding the demons and supernatural elements tie back to her in some way. Its part of the creation myth of the setting that the Gods went mad from being alive for untold eons until they made a pact with Death to be able to die. Also, the main villains of the book are basically descendants of that Death god its a whole thing.Currently in the story due to the actions of the protagonists, Death herself is currently locked away BY one of those descendants. This has lead to the world itself being thrown out of balance because nothing can die "properly". Human souls remain trapped in their dead bodies and they slowly begin to calcify and turn to salt-like crystaline structures in a horrific undeath. The MC by virtue of her super special powers is actually one of the few people capable of granting release from this hell.Thats actually the main conflict of the current book in a way. Two of those descendants mentioned earlier all want to use her power to "fix" the world in their own way. One wants to use it to release Death and the other well... the other's a necromancer that believes Life to be sacred above all else and actively spits in the face of Death. As a bit of a spoiler, the plan for the finale of the book IS for this MC to embrace the villain's plan and become a full blown psychopomp, at least for some time until the next book works to fix that. Due to the web of intrigue and political and emotional blackmail Ive crafted this is basically the only way for her to save those precious to her.
What are some good way to introduce a sense of sonder to adventures without risking derailing them.I just like the idea of occasionally implying to players that there are other adventures going on simultaneously to their own that are just as interesting, complex, and important as the one their on. But that doesn’t involve them, and they may never fully know.
>>97707311This probably isn't very helpful, but my favourite example of that is Shaun of the Dead, where they briefly pass another group with all the same archetypes but played by British celebrities who are more famous than the main actors.

Sadly, we have no reason to believe the damage can ever be undone. The days where there was a relatively uniform RPG fandom have passed (by which I mean a common and respectful culture, not an era in which only a certain set of RPGs were uniformly played). Gone are the days where a DnD fan and a VtM fan could happily shoot the shit with each other despite not having much in common, replaced by social media, influencer culture, and the all-devouring culture wars. We can try to re-enforce it through bullying, but that will only make a sad shadow of the original culture built on fear and ego rather than genuine culture. What you can do is try to keep that original culture alive and induct new people in your group into it, so that if the bloated monstrosity of the modern fandom ever deflates it might be that you and your bros can rebuild it from the ashes.

>Hibiki>>97700150The only thing Hibiki really misses from the Land of Rice Fields is the forest he used to escape to and explore - he intends to return to it eventually at least once to meet the Singer, but doesn't plan on ever seeings his family again. He wasn't close to any of his relatives, wasn't fond of the traditions ('Ahhh, Aunt Kusanagi made the prisoner go into shock! She loses!'), and while the food and other luxuries were nice they were so plentiful that Hibiki finds the normal lifestyle of Getsugakure exotic and interesting. Other than some plants he enjoyed from home, he's happy to leave Otogakure behind.>>97702183Really cool work Dogen-anon! Gives more insight into Dogen's personality and teaching style, which will help a lot with writing him in the future. I can definitely see him being the hardass disciplinarian of the teachers, and he can serve as a good antagonist for the more lighthearted academy plots. No issues with Hibiki, he's in character and you did a good job with his parts. Technically Hypersonic Mind Waves forces the animal to obey orders even to their own detriment, but Hibiki at this stage wouldn't want to risk hurting them or going against their will so it still works. More a limitation of his personality than the Jutsu itself.

>>97700150>Getsugakure is great, sure. They'e a rich place with a lot to offer.Natsume does NOT consider Getsugakure to be rich, both from her privileged upbringing as well as Redaku seeming to be one of the only nations that can rival it for national wealth.>But maybe they're missing that special something you're missing. Natsume is extremely homesick, which is exacerbating her brattiness. Back home she was the only child of magnates, knowing only that lifestyle, with abilities that were all but considered fictional by the people of her homeland. She was special. Here, she's one of many, and struggling to adapt. There is a yearly event that her parents would host, called the Parade of Dragons. It's effectively a competition between the various mines and their operators, where each try to present the largest, most complete, most impressive fossils they have found that year. The best she ever saw was a creature the size of a building, 100 feet tall. Seeing those long-buried ancient titans filled her with fantasies of what they would have looked like when they were alive. What she misses most of all is her home. She has many precious memories of there; of her parents, of her friends, of guests and celebrations. She's thought about if there's a way to replicate the climate. She's used to it being hot and dry. Getsu is wet and humid, since it's an island. She didn't know the air even could be wet. Drying out an area seems extreme though, and it's not like it's bad. There's more water in the sea than she has ever seen, but what kind of cruel joke is it that it's unusable?>>97702183Great stuff Dogen anon! Having the sensei acknowledge how busted our builds are compared to average genin is a great addition, and the teaching points were all on point! With Natsume, showing that she's far from mastering her abilities and can even put herself at risk with them if she's not careful is excellent. I wonder what he'd make of her eyes, and with the last bit, her treasure.
>>97700150Iwao is from Getsu, although he lived on the outskirts, at the foothold of that mountain range. This means his father had longer commute to work, as most projects are built in the city proper, but he was never the most sociable guy, and it helped prevent eventual bullying Iwao might have suffered if he lived surrounded by other kids from being a pebble. Iwao started visiting the city when he was 5yo, always accompanied by his dad. Initially it was to see the market, later also to help his dad with work by carrying stuff.Iwao likes being surrounded by people, but it can get a bit overwhelming for him, and at times he misses the peace and quiet of the mountains. He also liked to hike. The view from the peak was the closest he could get to flying. He also misses his dad since they don't meet as often nowadays that Iwao's in the academy. When something happens, like when Iwao sees a pretty bird or a rock, he can be seen looking for his dad to tell him, only to get saddened when he realises he's not there.
