I'm probably coping, but do you still need a discrete graphics card in 2026? If you're not running games then there is no use case. And even then you can get away with running a lot nowadays

Alternatively, if you want to make up a real lesson, I guess it's to maintain a good position without staying strictly on the defensive.
>>My skills have stagnated since working here 4 years. Am feeling behind the curve.
It's not that you've stagnated; it's that things are simply working well.

Even in the navy, I got my reputation by touching stuff and doing things in confidence. There are times to just quietly do the paperwork, and there are times to start poking behind panels. Poking behind the panels and doing some "Non-Destructive Testing" when everything is stable and working is what equips you to take an iron and crimper to stuff when it fails and become the hero.

Hiding in the tall grass is all well and good when stuff is going wrong and the world is loud and bright, but once the tide of battle has turned even slightly in your favour, it's time to press the attack. It's all set up for you. Time to grow up.

At work we used to run a JetBrains IDE through a docker container through a Windows X server. We don't do that anymore and it was really dumb but all selections automatically being copied was infuriating since I'd be selecting something to search for it and then whatever I had in my clipboard prior kept getting overwritten. The automatic selections should have only been kept in the middle mouse buffer but VcXsrv was overwriting the windows one too.

Middle-click is ancient, it’s supposed to only copy the current highlighted text, but so many tools try to sync up middle-click and normal copy paste, and it never works quite right. Middle-click to paste made sense when mice had 3 big buttons and no scroll-wheel, and the only thing you were going to be copying and pasting was text. I also dislike it because it implicitly copies (originally at least, X didn’t have a copy buffer, when you middle clicked it’d just ask the server for the most recent highlighted text and input it, rather than copying shit every time you highlighted it). This can cause a ton of annoying issues if something tries to synchronise the two clipboards.

I also noticed I still have a lot of emacs bindings, what's up with that? Is there a way to just turn on full vim and not overload myself with mixing and matching text editors?

Check evil-collection. You might also want to grab evil-leader. You might need to do some configurations to change whole emacs environment to fit vim keybinds still too. Most painless way would be just using doom emacs because it is preconfigured for it. I wish there was something similar for helix emulation, but so far 2 packages I tried for helix emulation felt too janky.

Actually, same for the top bar when I have a directory open at the top and a file open in a buffer below it. Nootice the bright lines, perhaps some kind of borders. The bottom "mode" bar or whatever it is doesn't have the "issue".

It's all very straightforward, with basically no effort put toward handling edge cases in agreed-upon ways, no built-up crap from being hacked on by literally generations of programmers, and no exotic hyper-optimized algorithms you have to wrap your head around before you can start tinkering with things that seem like they ought to be simple (at least in the pictures that were shared.) A quaint reminder that one very real day, a bunch of relatively normal (if brilliant) guys just sat down and started writing Unix with almost no constraints or baggage or insitutions involved.

I noticed stupid ddos attacks, even for sites where it doesn't make sense, like archives. Could it be that cloudflare conducts them themselves, so people use their shitty captcha service? It's literally EVERYWHERE, they had to achieve that somehow.

It's the old protection money trick the mafia did. Attack random shops at night and then come in the next morning and offer security against vandalism and violence.

i can assist you with this
first you go to wallmart and you buy a webcam
and then you go along the alley, not across the street
and you film it
for best effect you put your wound in a warm water bath
so your body doesnt notice that youre pumping recylcled piss instead of blood
and thats how you do things

first you cut
and then you stick your hands in water. warm. you dont want to shock your body into actually responding to the wound

and you film it all
and you post it on /g/

Hi, I'm from /tg/. We got a guy over there saying one of our MEGAs is filled with PDFs packed with suspicious activity. It's a real old MEGA, never heard anyone claim the PDFs on it were suspicious, but I don't really have enough knowledge to know if he's bullshitting or not. Put some files through the test he suggested with Virustotal, it looks clean but he's insisting on going through the behaviors. I'm not tech savvy enough to see what he's talking about or to know if he's blowing smoke up our asses, could someone here give us some insight? Much appreciated.

>Corporations are people, my friend.
Companies, especially large ones, are made up of tons of factions pushing in different directions, and managers each trying to maximize their own benefit, even when it is of negative value to the company. Internal metrics are often very bad at identifying who is actually adding positive value to the company and who is harming it.
Susan the product manager doesn't gave a shit if the product she manages undermines the message some other department on the other side of the org chart is trying to associate with the company. She cares about hitting the targets set by her manager or even manipulating the targets themselves to be aligned with what she's doing. The notion of large corporations being strict hierarchies with clear goals handed down cleanly between levels has a theoretical, almost romantic, appeal to it, but it doesn't reflect the reality of how large entities actually operate.

It's one main symptom of late stage capitalism
Having a honest, sustainable, steady business that stays afloat forever but doesn't grow (like some businesses that have existed for several hundred years and multiple generations in Europe and Japan), isn't enough.
Green line must always go up forever, which obviously isn't sustainable. And companies have been running out of ideas, especially since I believe that tech in general is basically solved and has truly peaked (especially in the consumer space). It's one of the main reasons why creating retarded anti-consumer shit and doubling down on it is becoming more common, while all megacorps keep putting a smug face about it, they're in despair.
Especially because when the AI bubble pops, it could be an event that will finally make the world in general realize this isn't sustainable and cause the whole stock market in general to crash.

Let's discuss this new piece of technology. Anyone planning to get one?
