>NAS Case Guide. Feel free to add to it:
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/wiki/Home_server/Case_guide

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualisation. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavour of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

And thats a good thing.
I have two desktops and while proton and whatnot is making strides, for general gaming windows is still significantly better, plus if you play online shit you don't run the risk of getting randomly assfucked when the dev turns off linux support in the anti-cheat.

Linux does excel at playing old shit however, will give it that. Also the FOSS community is already aids enough as it is, I fear overexposure at this point would just make it significantly worse.

Some WD drives, mainly ones that relied on HMB caching (i.e. dramless SSDs) were seeing corrupted partitions or whole system crashes when windows updates exposed flaws in the firmware. This isn't specific to WD and affects a whole host of drives made by brands like Corsair, micron, sabrent etc.

many people don't drink those
caffeine is also a lot different than Adderall

I think we're capable of a lot more than 4 hours if we benefit from it and there is sufficient purpose
>>
>>106830448

It's not all that different. I would actually argue low-dose addy xr is the superior stimulant. It just gives you higher baseline focus and drive, without all of the anxiety and jitter caffeine gives. And I'd say at minimum 80% of corporate America is on caffeine.

We are "capable" of more than 4, obviously, but it isn't what we're naturally optimized for, if that makes any sense. Or else we wouldn't touch stimulants at all.

Little kids basically exhibit human nature in its purest form. They wake up, go crazy for 2 hours in the morning, tank and nap during the mid-day, and then go crazy for another 2 in the evening before bed. We're basically crepuscular, like cats. We evolved in hot climes that made mid day productivity useless and even dangerous.

Sorta. You should wear a mask or have a fan blowing away from where you're soldering, but even without it unless you're operating an assembly line in your house you're not going to be in much danger from such small quantities.

You can make a subject filter to filter the /dfsgf/ filters like so:
/\/.*\//i;

If you want to move them to the top you can add
top:yes;
after the filter. There's
highlight;
too

if you want autowatching then it's a nope, which is strange because the 4chan native extension has this feature I think

This fucked up chingrish is killing me. My old chink doorbell broke after a long while so i bought the same one
Then i found out i could keep using the old receiver along with the new one, essentially having 2 receivers for the same doorbell

The thing is whenever i "match" the things, it only rings the first time, then never again, so i think its not matching up.

Ive tried holding the volume button and tapping the doorbell, ive tried letting go of the volume button and tapping the doorbell, ive tried holding both teh volume button and then holding the doorbell button, but its always just the first "ding dong" and then no consecutive ding dongs happen
>>
Why aren't compiled binaries compatible across OS even if they share the same CPU architecture?
>>
>>106830355
Short answer: OSes have incompatible APIs

Long answer: If you run your program outside the OS (given that modern OSes don't like programs doing this, for obvious security reason, that generally means running your program on boot without any OS at all), then you don't need it to be compatible, only the CPU matters
But if you run it inside an OS then it obviously needs to be compatible with the OS. OSes have APIs for doing basically anything and they are not cross-compatible

This concept extends above the OS too. For example if your program is intended to run inside a Wayland display server, then it won't be able to run inside an X server, because running inside a display server requires explicit compatibility with that server's API. The main difference between this and OS compatibility is that you can run programs outside of a display server relatively easily (i.e. all CLI programs are completely agnostic to whatever display server you're running, or if you're running one at all), but running a program outside the OS WHILE an OS is booted is not practically possible, since the OS manages all the memory and CPUs and does not allow programs to execute "besides" it, only inside its management.
>>
>>106830449
But assembly for an architecture is just one fixed language right, and object files are just assembly code in binary? So, what is changing in the code across OSes?
