It is the year 199X. Your friends have just sent you a text message to your Nokia 3210, saying they can't make tonight's D&D game.

Which of these games do you play, to single-playerly experience that classic 'dungeon crawler' feel?

do you just...stop playing games?

i had games installed on my computer in 1999 that were from almost a decade earlier (based Windows 98 still supporting DOS).

now, in 2026, i have games installed from 30 years ago. that's why there's GOG and "abandonware" sites. games like RollerCoaster Tycoon and Morrowind are still really popular.

>Zoomer can't grasp how revolutionary the 90s were in terms of vidya and general computing capabilities
Stuff from 95 was fucking ANCIENT in 99. To put your idiotic shitpost thread into a period-accurate context: Tomb Raider 3 was lambasted fro being "samey", old-ass and generally outdated, despite TR1, mere 3 years prior, was considered the most revolutionary game EVER. And that despite 3 being a big technological leap to 1 that could be compared to something like a 2010 32bit game and 2020 64bit game.
In 93, the sheer concept of being in 3D was fuck-huge, by 98, NOT being a 3D meant you were dated and shit-tier

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

Hakkapeliittas exist. You could created Adolphus Gustavus themes trench pilgrims.
But over all, Northern Europe is Kalmat Union in TC universe.
>>
>>97348253
models have specified base sizes in the warbands of trench crusade rules and also on trench-companion. outside of that you’re free to model them however you want.

unfortunately I have 0 advice on how to kitbash them as I don’t have a court warband.

the dudes behind the Red Brigade already have a range for a Norse NA subfaction.

No clue what FF’s MO will be for making 3rd party subtractions official like with Red Brigade or the Great Hunger, but the foundation is there.

There are a lot of examples of knights being implemented into a sci-fi future setting (Warhammer 40k, Battletech, Dune), but are there any examples of medieval societies with modern-esque professional soldiers?

Dragonlance draconians certainly act that way.
Charr from guild wars 2 are pretty much a modern military running a dieselpunk empire in a medieval fantasy setting.
Elder scrolls in some interpretations.
>>
>>97339216
You could argue there are several IRL examples of feudal or feudal-like countries with a somewhat modern army, ie. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or (arguably) North Korea.

Historically you could read about pre-unification Germany or the Austro-Hungarian empire and just give them better rifles.
>>
>>97339216
That seems to be the case in fantasy way more often than not.

>>97343780
Not always. The Land Ironclads and the Difference Engine were both alternate history in the fact there was nothing fantastical about them beyond people pursuing certain vectors of technology that already existed at that point.

>but it's worth noting in the same context that men instinctively react to seeing two men kissing with the same revulsive affect that they react to seeing maggots crawling in meat

Idle question, how do young boys who've never been taught who they're "supposed" to like react to it, as compared to seeing a man and a woman kiss?

Just sayin', I'm inclined to think that upbringing might be a factor here, so have we tested what the reaction is among those who have no socially instilled notions about things?

Also I note you specified men looking at men kissing. What about women looking at two women kissing? Or a young girl with no socially instilled notions looking at the same?

probably a fair bit tbqh, there's a lot of reading and you might need to know your history a bit. that's standard for a lot of LotFP books (and personally not my cup of tea).

The God That Crawls is 46 pages, quick read-through and then you have a church setting with characters, a monster, and a spooky dungeon. you could realistically just drop it in anywhere (could be Elizabethan England, could swap some names and then it's the Church of Corellon Larethian or whatever).

i'm a dungeon guy so the adventures that have a hexmap of 17th-century Germany or whatever simply do not appeal to me. but when LotFP stuff hits, it hits. Death Frost Doom is another quick dungeon (64 pages, including maps/miscellanea) and it's the most fun i've ever had with D&D. sort of an Evil Dead pastiche, with SOME of the edginess, but it's also a damn good dungeon.

>I'm not talking about their gameplay
ok, but we're discussing making a game so that's the relevant part. and we don't have to guess, we know, because /acg/ collectively have a ton of direct experience with netrunner. /acg/ was born out of /anrg/, and even after all these years I'd be surprised if it wasn't the game the largest number of us have in common in our collections.
plus whatever your thematic hangups are with cyberpunk megacorps, they don't directly translate to whatever faces you'd put on "the house" in a heist/con game. there's a lot of space in that theme. shit yes, playing the A-team or Oceans Eleven or the Italian Jobbers is fun, but the "villains" can definitely be compelling too. hell, going with your 'b-b-but all the little kids want to be good guys' argument, they're by default the more law-abiding ones since they're not doing the robbing.

anyhow doesnt mean much if theres not other anons interested in contributing. none of these shits are ever getting done if its only one anon working on it. show of hands?

What I mean is nobody cared to dispute whether snake-handlers and Vodou are Christians, because nobody feels the need to defend Christianity's honor like that.

But to your point - quite frankly - No, Christianity does not do a lot of purging blasphemers. As evident by the fucking mess of cults and denominations we have running around. Those times are mostly in the past.

>Look. Make a thread on /pol/ so we can talk about this among like-minded people.

What is the counterculture of 2020s, that could be used as the basis for a contemporary countercultural tabletop game?

Take the World of Darkness for example, which was so grounded in the the counterculture of the 90s that it comes across as dated and strange today. How would you update the World of Darkness so that it better represents the counterculture of today?

Nightmare Mode: Talk about more than just politics. There's more to rebellion against the status quo and the prevailing social norm than who you vote for.

An aversion to the traditional late-20th-century work-life balance, disillusionment with traditional late-20th-century media (television) in favour of new digital media (streams and podcasts) and radical honesty about their beliefs and interests.

Being bold and outspoken, searching for digital media that compounds their views and cringing at the thought of letting wageslavery define them are traits shared by all of the countercultural groups you listed and more. Which is reasonable, as at least two out of three of those traits are shared with the countercultures of prior generations.

Modern WoD would either be Werewolf-esque eco-terrorism or a permutation of Mage. The Technocracy still works as the group to rail against, they're just no longer a proper union with the conventions clashing in some areas while coming together on certain issues.

The NWO, Syndicate, Iterators, Progenitors, and Engineers, as well as whatever you would want to add on that isn't covered by those conventions, are constantly butting heads, but they're still the heads of the same Terranorming, absolutist hydra.

IMO, modern counter-culture is pulling an Uncle Ted and escaping the soul-shredding agony matrix of modernity. Perhaps this could be expressed through having players journey towards 'Escape' or 'Exodus' similar to attaining humanity in Promethean.

This sort of thing is why I realised this inane question threads aren't for any actual purpose, at least not for locals. If you can answer this question with multiple answers yourself already, then you don't need the thread, but if you're a retard and you can't answer the question yourself, then the thread is also redundant because you clearly don't have the mental capability to benefit from the thread anyway. It's like a creative catch 22.

Which then makes me think what is it actually for? Why do people make artificial pointless threads? Training AI? Stealing content for YouTube? Trying to disguise how few of us real posters are left? I can certainly see why most creatives jumped ship years ago.
