Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97665641Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: pastee.dev/p/sp2Mdb5Ihttps://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator/wbi/: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TWorldbuilding Hub: https://discord.com/invite/wGjxK3YThe Writer's Forge: https://discord.com/invite/CUxHxWqTira: https://discord.com/invite/f52W6KgDawn of Victory: https://discord.gg/hUAynC3wConlangerama: https://discord.com/invite/ceKjZBr2jCComment too long. >>97826060My setting's monsters are pretty far on the monstrous scale. They are inhuman, often eldritch, entirely unnatural beings that violate every rule about living creatures. They are so far removed from a normal living creature as to be incomparable. They have pseudo-flesh that isn't biological. They don't need to breath, sleep, eat, etc. They literally materialize/spawn due to ambient arcane energy concentrations being high enough rather than being born of biological processes. when slain (which takes specialized equipment or magic) they don't leave behind bodies. They instead dematerialize and turn into a glowing dust called spark, which is a essential magical component in the setting. They don't feel, they don't have biological drives, they don't really have emotions. The only thing that drives them is a compulsion to inflict pain, death, and destruction to all life capable of feeling pain. For reasons totally unknown and incomprehensible. Some have theorized that monsters were the result of a planet wide spell cast during the age of the immortals, but no one knows for sure and there is no evidence to support that theory. It's just speculation at this time. "mortals" by contrast are all biological beings. They feel, they are driven by biological imperatives, instincts, thoughts, emotions. They are made of meat. When stabbed by a normal weapon they bleed. Then they die a body if left behind. You probably get the idea. Biological beings have species, there are kinds, there are family trees. You can neatly categorize them. There are patterns to them. There is logic and reason that can be imposed on them. Monsters don't work that way in my setting. Monsters don't take on any particular form. Each instance is a unique amalgamation of wrong. A mockery of nightmares, a maddening parody of parts mashed together in sickening ways.
Do you draw your maps with hexagons or with squares?
>>97826308(A 128,000-square-mile tile on a world map is about the same size as Poland, Japan, or Ecuador.)
>>97826308Squares. Mostly because the main time I make maps its of interiors to places. So squares work better imo. I don't really do the hex craw thing. No shade on it, I am sure they are good fun, just ain't the style of game I run.
>>97825933I can't do that. Magic isn't strong enough anymore.
Is GW really planning a Titan-sized Daemon Perturabo model or is this symbolic?
>>97810812America doesn't lose wars, faggot.

I do not care about the Iron tardos. Bring back Straken and Harker.
>>97810970Probably Vulkan, since he's a perpetual and thus it's really, REALLY easy to justify him showing up again.>>97811095>>97811110This is also possible, but Vulkan is the one that's really easy to justify and would be the path of least resistance narratively.
Why do my genasis never get any love? I feel like these guys are made to be tumblr tier OC bullshit that would at least get me something cool in 5e.
>>97638600>1. Nobody cares about elementalsElementals are so shockingly conceptually vacuous it's kinda crazy. There's just... nothing there lol. A fire elemental is just made of fire. Motivations? Goals? Life cycle? It's made of fire, what more do you need to know?Just make them Pokemon.
>>97813886Sorry, was banned for 3 daysWell, he started off 1st level with some Greyhawk stuff I cooked up, eventually segued into Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (horrible campaign btw), went through that and ended at it at level 13, we played 5 more adventures and they retired that character at 17th level in 3.x, which is pretty respectable. One of the few characters I ever saw personally retire instead of getting killed in action. I remember he took Hellfire Warlock as a prc but I modified it slightly. 3.x didn't need a lot of homebrewing iirc. I'd have to break out my actual notes for more details. I remember writing down his character level progress, which he changed a bit as we played ofc. That campaign lasted seven years but he went from 1 to 17 in a little over 3 years. Great player and he's become an excellent DM. His pacing is superb. He gathered some great magic items in that game and didn't recovered an Orb of Dragon kind (Black). He is, to date, the only character to ever recover one of those. I should dig out those notes. I think you guys would appreciate them.
>>97820249>Sorry, was banned for 3 daysHate when that happens.
>>97814522>FishWhat about other aquatic scents like flowers from lily pads, the ocean air, etc.?

An Elder Scrolls TTRPG would be grand, but also a goliath undertaking given whatever era you focused on.

>>97817591They don't tell the consumer pigs this, but you can still play older versions of tabletop games with your friends. You do have friends, right?
>>97819842My friends are first and foremost fantasy /awg/ players. I'm quite happy they gave Warcry a chance despite avoid GW's games like the plague, for a good reason but that's obvious to anyone stuck in the GW's hell. The local GW crowd is good-hearted but absolutely mindless, they only follow the shiny new releases and the mere thought of playing an unsupported game/edition gives them a panic attack.
So with the Nemesis Claw's prescience token system when it says "Skip" that operative's activation does that mean you can activate them later or are you totally passing their turn for that turning point?

>>978259851999-2000 had the Camarilla fully kick them to the curb with some clever help from the setites selling radioactive blood to the sabbat. But then in early 2001 the interim prince stepped down with no successor so the game is gonna be set in the big scramble of who can become prince
>>97826150>1999-2000 had the Camarilla fully kick them to the curb with some clever help from the setites selling radioactive blood to the sabbatReally? Guess my mental timeline's fucked. Thinking further on it: Wormwood/Anthelios would have been visible in the sky to anyone with auspex for a couple years at that point. With such a recent takeover that would amplify the paranoia about outside attacks to 11 even among nod-denialist factions. I bet the nascent Chantry would try to shift blame onto Assamites just out of spite. Any Sabbat packs still lurking in the city might pick that as an opportunity to extend what little territory they kept hold on. Hell even Anarchs might make a play.
>>97826133>Huh, someone once told me/read somewhere that horizon realms were the exception?Horizon Realms are Otherworlds. Maybe once they were more hospitable but after the Avatar Storm, the Horizon Realms are supposed to be borderline inaccessible and not longer a home away from Earth for mages, sort of like the Umbra in W5.>The second you reach arete 6 the world is giving paradox like crazy for each second you exist there. Not really. However, more powerful mages are more likely to incur more permanent Paradox as they permanently augment themselves with vulgar enhancements and create vulgar Wonders. Such mages can't afford to linger in standard consensual reality, so it's much safer to hide in a reality zone that's more tolerant of their reality deviance. The best places for such mages to hide out were Horizon Realms but with those gone, powerful mages have to choose between living exclusively in places that pander to their paradigm, avoiding any sort of permanent vulgar magic, or constantly being at risk of massive Paradox backlash.>I understand that the main attraction is the politicking and survival on Earth, but it’s like if D&D never allowed anyone to be a spellcaster.I don't think it's quite that bad. The positive side is that the lack of a personal demi-plane for archmages to run off to means that they need to be much more careful with how they conduct themselves, that Paradox will always be an issue that can't be easily circumvented. But for people who don't like that and enjoy the interdimensional gonzo side of Mage the Ascension, you can just ignore the Avatar Storm stuff in your game. M20 makes it clear that everything connected to the Avatar Storm is totally optional.

Really nuanced and with equal emphasis on each caste and the auxiliaries, and he subtly shows that things are fucked up behind the curtain. In comparison, Phil Kelly's tau books are full of mustache twirling faggot ethereals because he decided to grimdark the tau by turning them into blue imperium through author fiat.

Rogue trader homebrews that add more ship components, cannons,... Or archaeotech/xenotech for character?
>>97826113Most spaceship brews are gonna be on the old forums, and you'll have to trawl through them to find stuff. I have a brew of my own, but it's mostly focused on porting in battleships from BFG, and most of the components are in service of that. There are a few new weapon components, mostly a heftier bombardment cannon and some archaeotech variants of normal components. It's also riddled with old notes, and heavily WIP in places.I will welcome suggestions or other input if you have it, and if you have an idea for something you'd like me to include, go ahead and post it.https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vRLVNdvMinnuiGXpUdnxL4r9QELyYCH9yNevuH1nIaf-G5Rv4HKyjy2OKg_kzqKfmN5svTQ4CE2L_YS/pubFor character-scale shit, pic is a list of stuff I brainstormed for a game that fell through a while back. If any of this sparks your interest, let me know and I'll see about spitballing some mechanics.Aside from that, is there anything in particular you feel is missing regarding ship components?

That's right, they practically don't exist because other races are simply inferior when it comes to necromancy and those non-human undead are so pathetic that everyone forgets about their existence in 5 minutes . Except for that one orc, but even he understood that he was worthless and therefore got himself a human body to finally become a full-fledged lich. I'll start>D&D 5E is a heroic fantasy game (I didn't say good), trying to do anything else should have you using a different system.
>>97825673>a far great initial investmentbasic rules are free, you guys are retards
>>97825764And which books does the DM need, oh wise one?
>>97825776>An incredibly truncated version of the rules that you'll maybe be able to use for a few sessions, and is more of a pain in the ass to reference, which is totally the same thing as the entire game, is available for free you fucking idiots! And by that logic CoC is *still* better, because the free quick start rules come with a good adventure.
>>97825776You can have a more basic version of any (sau) 30+ pages game. That doens't mean the game isn't simpler than dnd - or even that the quickstart itself isn't simpler than the dnd one.
>>97801163>there are people arguing with thisWhat would the counter example even be, Pathfinder? D&D is the most popular system by a factor of ONE HUNDRED TIMES. You can find helpful advice everywhere, and you can jump right into a group to play every night.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. Requesting an interpretation of Sifkesh, a demon lord themed around suicide. I'm having a hard time finding decent art of her that's higher than a 500x500 resolution, which makes the pictures fuzzy.Semi-official description according to Pathfinder wiki: "Sifkesh resembles an emaciated human woman with deathly white skin, limp black hair that constantly drips blood, and white bird wings. Her eyes and lips are sewn shut with rusty wire, and her body is dismembered at the neck, shoulders, ankles, wrists, hips, and wings. Each body part floats independently, moving slightly out-of-sync with the others."
