It kinda annoys me how the anime just... ignores the energy generator completely most of the time. There were a couple of scenes in the first few episodes and occasionally someone decides to actually mention that they set the generator, but I feel like I'd enjoy the concept more if Divinez gave more focus to it. If charging the generator had some kind of flashy visual or something to make it feel cool.

Depends on what magic does to the mage.
If it's a mind-melting or reality-bending shit the likes of 40k, you'd instead be chased out of the village with torches and pitchforks.
Further, even if it is relatively safe, it'd still depend on the public perception of mages and magic as a whole.

The reason /tg/ isn't creative any more and 4chan as a whole fucking sucks even compared to 10 years ago is because being anonymous means nothing any more because the internet is not longer just for fat nerds to bitch about their interests. I only did it once and said theater kid had a blast. Turns out a lot of the time they only keep the act going because the others around them are but if you remove their influence they can be all to happy to go balls deep. He then ran his theater friends through it and most of them had a good time too and now that's how they play. One person made a stink and stormed off but I'm told they didn't like him much anyways.

Something cool is that you can, for example, made a glass cannon that shoots 10 fireballs. But you could spend the points of 1 fireball to have a familiar, and make the familiar cast the 8 fireballs, and the last point is to self buff, and a lot of shit like that
So the balance is the point cost, you could have the players and NPCs all competing on the same point cost and the boss could have 20% extra to buy more shit
You can also take penalties on good ol' shonen fashion, like you could have skills that are over the point limit you set, but only activates in incredibly specific stuff
Like for example you become god if an enemy uses a magical cloud that specifically rewinds time, inside a dome you can't escape from that's also made by the enemy
