>>96470566The game inside Silent Legions is not worth it. The sandbox generation is! It let's you generate a pantheon or two of elder gods, alien species cults and artifacts. Then you plug these into into your adventure locations using the Tag system. This gives you possible schemes, enemies allies etc etc. Then you can use the investigation generator that gives you further ideas to put it together, not dissimilar to a shotgun scenario maker. Then using your own intuition you bring it all together to create the grander conspiracy and, tada! >>96460251>>96460692NTA but I'm guessing it's worth waiting for the Third Edition box if I like the teams more? I don't really care at all for the Second Edition teams, though it does have the star players I could use and big guys I might eventually use
>>96472500The chances that you naturally just happened to be wanting a brettonian team and a khemri team together at the same time that GW announced a joint release of them is so vanishingly small as to be negligible. So the reality is you only want one of them at best and any illusion to the contrary is your FOMO deluding you. That being understood, if you really must have one of these GW teams then the best option (since you show a willingness to wait) is to wait for them to be sold individually or for someone to buy the box looking for the other team who then wants to sell off the team you are interested in.
>>96472563I understand your point, but here's how I came to it>Want to get into BB>Hmm Second Edition has everything, but I don't want either team>Also figure new edition and set is coming out sooner rather than later>I'll just play learn if I like the game on BB3, get Blitz Bowl to get friends involved and then buy Norse or regular Orks to play with friends at LGS>Oh shid new edition with two badass looking teams, including Bretts who would be a contender for my starting team based on rule of coolI still think I'm going to get Norse or Orks and see how I like tabletop. Haven't played Blitz Bowl yet with friends (I know it's really not the same game)By the time I figure out if I want to invest and have friends who want to play, the new box should be out and hopefully available I guess my question is about whether there is so much value in Second Edition that it's worth getting it and trying to sell the teams. I think my current course of action is good though
>>96472621I'd advice you to get team from non-GW source. If you want the GW norse or orc get them now, next month they're gonna increase the price, probably 5-10USD.
>>96472621>Second Edition"second season" is the GW branding, this is more like 13th edition? And no, people are only playing 2020 (and will only play 2025) because it's the current gw product, and it will live only so long as that status is maintained.the 6th community edition (Living Rule Book 6) is the latest edition of the game that survived on it's own merit of being a good game that people wanted to play.It is also the last version of the game to be designed with the involvement of the man who invented the game, as well as the last vrsion of the game to be released as a complete game all at once AND is the last version of the game to be playtested with a goal of making th game balanced and fun to play. You say you are getting your friends into the game, so you aren't relying on the existence of an already established group, which means you can buy whatever team miniatures you want and play with whatever rules you want, so the free and complete LRB6 is a valid option here, you can play that and still buy whatever minis GW makes as they come out.
Dragons are one of the archetypal things you expect to see in fantasy, arguably even more than other mainstays of the genre like Elves, Dwarves, Gandalf-style wizards, etc. Be they monsters, incarnations of pure Good, Evil, or some other force or being, actual gods or other divine beings, shapeshifters who can take on human form as needed, or what, Dragons seem to capture our imaginations like no other, with cultures all over the world having legends of dragons and similar creatures. So, I figure it couldn’t hurt to talk about how you handle dragons on your own settings, and what your favorite depictions are. Art of dragons is fine too!
>>96005629Problem I've had with dragons is that the main thing you do with them is slay them. Seems kinda silly for them to be extremely rare, even the young ones, and for it to take centuries to get a big one when it only takes 1 strong party to kill one and that same party can just go around killing more and more dragons. Then there's the times dragon might get defeated by normal people like what happened to Smaug. There's just no sensible way for dragons in most settings to exist if you have thousands of years of history and adventuring. It has never been relevant to a game but dragons are just very successful kobolds. Still rare, still powerful and sometimes smart but the pool they have the potential to grow from is large.
>>96463236the only problem is the lack of writer restraintevery setting has gobs of leveled adventurers/heroes with at least semi-optimized builds and party compositions, most of the time they have really high ability scores, and of course plot armor I don't think you should be limited to E6, but I try to stay in that mindset. https://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/587/roleplaying-games/dd-calibrating-your-expectations-2

So have a bit of a scene I wrote while I'm waiting to be able to buy silk song. Nothing that important. Mostly just venti messing around and a glimpse at development. The night sky shimmered overhead, The moon was bright and large, like a nightlight in the sky against the perpetual purple that seemed to hang over the endless sea.Venti sighs looking up at it. The steady roar of traffic behind him ever going. He stares for a few minutes before deciding that was enough staring. Might as well take a look around the island. See what needed to be done.He turns stepping off the beach. Approaching the highway, a endless stream of cars barreling down itA step onto the air, and then another. The cultivator walks casually up the air over the stream of eternal traffic. Looking towards the mountain on the islands center. The sect rose at a plateau near the top. A small temple like thing. Perhaps it could use a few more pillars made for it. Oh but... he did spend most of last night furnishing its inner hall. Something else could use his attention for now. Maybe the harbor? No he didn't remember that much at all, And making something wholesale would be a little bothersome for now. Maybe Ordin temple? Though the sect was already in pretty much the only place it'd fit. Perhaps cats? Venti always liked cats, his island deserved some cats. He decided to go with cats for now in lieu of other good options.1/2
>>96472199The bard drifts absent mindedly to one of the houses on the inner side of the highway and steps through the front door. A good enough place as any for a cat house.A few hours later. Venti smiles down at the pack of cats and one particularly house cat looking lion he was petting."Aww you're a good kitty." The cultivator grins rubbing the large cat's head. The beast purring contently"You take care of your siblings okay?" He sighs. Amused even if he was functionally talking to himself. He adjusts his cloak, stepping out of the house. Well, that was most of the night spent on admittedly fairly minor things. but he'd made most of the core stuff already over the last few months. It was going to need a lot more work. But he was happy with this place. It sort of reminded him of home. From what he remembered of it at this point at least. He pauses and looks down. - Oh! that spot on a intersection looked a bit like how he remembered the street, a Mcdonalds in his hometown growing up. That could be a good next project. The cultivator floats down to begin. Already beginning to plot out the shape for the building, But a familiar voice cuts through all of reality,as it begins to dissolve into something entirely different. "Wake up! I made breakfast!" He blinks, blearily orienting himself as he looks around the airy, wooden floored and walled room bedroom, light streaming through the window. to see his sister in the doorway. She had indeed made breakfast. Well dreamscape creating would have to wait until another night to continue.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

>>96469740The Emperor was ironically a large part of it.Him seeing his sons mostly as weapons, and his general detachment from humanity are what sowed the seeds for the Heresy to happen, Chaos merely watered those seeds. Because he was so detached very few people actually knew his plans for Humanity, and what he wanted, so the people that came after had to draw conclusions based upon what he did and not his intentions. The slow decline is also due to the loss of strong leaders like the Primarchs to death/coma/trapped in the Warp/whatever Jaghatai was doing, and the various factions of the Imperium preferring to not shake up the status quo because it was safer and more stableBut safer and more stable eventually to stagnation and decline as necessary changes and amendments either don't get made or don't get made fast enough

To the point that some Space Marines started getting religious themselves. But essentially yeah, it's exactly the fault of Heresy. The big war devastated as much as it could reach, and already got the Big Man and most of his sons turned or killed. And then those who left were eventually taken by the remnants of the traitors. With the exception of Khan.Although, desu, it was always a little DUMB that the Emperor, even crippled as he is, does not exercize his right to rule. Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>96080428Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: https://pastebin.com/JNnj79S5 (embed)https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generatorDiscord: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TThread questions:>Do you refer to "generic" materials like pic related, trope lists, etc, to derive inspiration, either by borrowing or intentionally eschewing them?
>>96460365One thing I wanted to do was have a necromancer who used a giant's skeleton as a mech. Unfortunately I never could find a way to fit it in to a setting nor got a chance to play a character like that
Found an old idea I had for a fantasy setting a while back lol. The idea was that the world, Ter, had just undergone an industrial revolution, which saw the defeat of the old elf/dwarf nations in a series of revolts. Made some shitty blub for it, so feel free to laugh. It is the dawn of the New Age. For centuries, the Elderkin held dominion over Ter. Yet now, the age of the Elderkin and the arcana wanes. The hum of machines rises from the sprawling cities of men. Smog clouds darken the skies. Factories churn, guns roar, and the earth trembles beneath the march of iron-clad armies.Across Ter, the old magics flicker and fade. The old gods grow silent and cold, replaced by industry. Where once the songs of the Elderkin rang out, cries of revolution resound.Nations fracture, new ideologies rise and faiths are tested. Gunpowder and the arcane alike tear the land asunder. Ancient creatures stirred by this upheaval slink back from forgotten shadows, eager to feast upon the dying world. To live in Ter now is to witness the end of an era, and the birth of a new: the final twilight of magic, the ruthless dawn of industry, and the coming storm of war that will decide the fate of all.Comment too long. >>96469874To add on to this, the setting pretty much is the old world, and is currently in the 1780-1800's ish in terms of progress. The industrial revolution in this setting has introduced things like the steam engine, early bolt action rifles, and other inventions of this time. Pretty much this industral revolution gave the human states of the time (mostly elf vassal states or fringe kingdoms) a economic and technological advantage over the elderkin (elves) who where still fighting with swords and magic and where too arrogant to adapt to anything. When some of the vassal states started to step out of line, the elves (currently in a succession crisis) decided that nothing would legitimise the new dynasty like a quick war against the savages. This turned out to be a big mistake (elven society had grown decadent and arrogant) and the elves got absolutely butchered and the conflict quickly devolved into trench warfare. Eventually the elves adapted and with the help of several elven states and dwarf clans, where able to defeat most of the upstart human states. However they quickly found that technology had spread across the world and now even more of their vassals where in revolution, and even other races, like the orcs had started to get their hands on it. Now the elves have lost most of their empire, are no longer the major players and are pretty much hated by everyone.
Have an idea for a fantasy rpg world that I've been working on for a while. Basically just filling out a text doc with ideas. I have it in my head, I've tried using free map making things, but they're very jank and not really to the scale I want to explore. I want to make a fully explorable planet, but also have places of dense interest with sub themes, (weird wild west, far east inspired places, steam punk victorian flavored places, wild jungle tree top dwelling places, etc). I'm basically just ripping ideas directly from all of my favorite fantasy franchises and blatantly mashing them together, but also blending them and remixing them into an original setting. I would like to find someone smarter than me to help me condense this into a more cohesive idea, but I also don't want to get ripped off. I also want it to be an extremely slow reveal of the world as its explored. I would like to make it compatable with DnD and PF and other popular ttrpg systems, and maybe adapt it to novels and stuff. I want to include a pokemon style element type theme to everything, but boiled down to various combinations of earth, wind, fire, water, and everything be based off of a variation of these base elements. I also have a source of the strangeness and magic in the world that makes logical sense in a scifi fantasy sort of way. Like a kernel of origin for all the weirdness to act as the mcguffin and the driving force of the world.
