Anyone else avoiding looking for Star Wars games because of picrelated?
Rebellions in 40k usually happen on a single world, or within a very limited region, and are often isolated before they can spread. In Star Wars, the rebels are far weaker than the Empire, but because hyperdrives are easy to obtain and relatively safe, they can carry out guerrilla tactics. By contrast, the Imperium in 40k doesn’t have a rebel problem as severe as the Galactic Empire did, because warp travel is terrible and can't really do it without a Navigatorso if the Imperium ever figures out a truly safe form of faster-than-light travel, it would face horrific rebel problems all across the galaxy.
>>97345238 just regular rebellion I gurss
>>97345127This logic is backwards, I don't get you.In SW Rebels are an irrelevant nuisance constantly on the run and unable to hold any ground. Explicitly because Empire can respond to any threat quickly due to fast and reliable FTL method.Rebellions are far worse in 40k because travel and communication is so shit, slow and unreliable that Imperium can't respond to threats fast enough. Normal rebellions by uppity governors, Genestealer Cults and Chaos happen all the time explicitly because of this. They happen, succeed and then create their own empires. Just like rebellions in real life succeed when empires are far away from source of rebellion and can't respond fast and accurately enough. Most notable example being USA.Rebels are quite literally a bigger issue in 40k
>>97345127I think, but can't confirm, that it was hinted at the DAOT having a way better form of FTL travel. Warp travel seems to be the Emperor jury rigging a bunch of left over crap to jump-start the Great Crusade, like how Titans are essentially repurposed Pesticide spray bottles.
>>97347060I don't think so since part of the fall of humanity was the warp chaos created by slaanesh's imminent birth, which fucked up connections and space travel. At the very least it was still vulnerable to warp fuckery. Not discounting the men of iron, of course.
>>97347087I just remember really old lore suggesting it, back in the days when the Emperor was implied to be a disgusting mutant who crawled out of a DAOT lab.

>>97347031Vidya. Flocks of them randomly appear as a migratory map hazard, and serve as the naval equivalent of exploding barrels. They're usually too slow and spread out to affect the battlefield, but sometimes the stars align and the enemy flies a battleship too close to a cluster of them right as your nova cannons finish reloading.

>>97344527>>Alien.>This got flanderized down into "All aliens are ebil, and must be killed on sight or you're a sinner."Prohibitions on interacting with Xenos were presumably in place during the Great Crusade, since that's when the Imperium started handing out Warrants of Trade. It doesn't make sense to have a license to break a rule unless the rule exists first. That is, of course, different than mandating xenocide, but it does imply the Imperial regarded aliens as a problem pretty much from the beginning.>around m36 with the official adoption of the Imperial Cult. You're off by about 4 millennia here. The Ecclesiarchy came into existence around M32, and presumably had to be extremely widespread even before that in order for such a thing to happen. M36 was when it got so corrupt and destructive that the Imperium had a civil war to put limits on it.
At what age do magic users start training in your setting?
>>97330092magical aptitude usually manifests at around 12 but some prodigies manifest it at a younger age. Some wizards take in students as young as 8 before they show signs of magical aptitude if any on their parents had magical ability, gambling on getting ahead of the curve and raising a powerful apprentice. Most of the time they just get a decent but utterly nonmagical helper but the 1 time out of 10000 it works out the extra years of early magical training pays off extremely well.some wizards take on very young apprentices for other reasons as well.
Depends. Wizards ideally start as soon as the kid has learned to read and write, while shamans and the like either follow whatever local tradition they might have, or get snatched by fairies and come back as raving magic lunatics two hundred years later. Priests begin training whenever, it doesnt really matter; if you can get a god to think you're his nigga, you get magic powers.

>>97345195Absolutely. Asteroid composition is anything but monolithic, as it were, but loosely falls into 3 categories, C, M, and S type. Those are easy to remember since they are short for carbon, metal, and silicate, or stony. C-type, carbon rich asteroids, are the most common, making up 75% of asteroids, while S-type, silicate or stony asteroids, comes in a distant second at 17% , M-type Metallic asteroids are much less numerous. Now when it comes to mining that hardly tells the whole story, M-types are mostly nickel and iron, neither of which we’d particularly want to bring home to Earth, but which would be valuable for building stuff in space. For that matter there are also several sub-types of asteroids and two different classifications systems, and the asteroid belt is anything but the only place you can find asteroids nor the nearest place to find them. It also is not unusual for two asteroids of different types to blunder into each other and merge or to be somewhere in between these types.C-types, the most common asteroid and also the ones that gets ignored a lot in asteroid mining conversations focused on impressing folks with the idea of mountains of gold, are quite valuable themselves. They contain lots of water, which is never a bad thing to find in outer space. But they also contain plenty of life-useful elements and particularly noteworthy is phosphorus. Something that is quite hard to find on Earth in concentration and a major bottleneck on agriculture, so if asteroid mining ever gets heavily developed and cheap, that is the sort of thing we might bring home since it is valuable. Not as valuable as gold or platinum of course, nowhere near, and these big space boulders have a lot of those.

It's so hard to see anyone coming out of this world with a dark skin tone. >>97344797It's the agenda that bothers me. You got a mongol chapter, a literal black guy chapter, an edge lord chapter, but the space vikings need to be 'inclusive' because white people. >>97345873That could be part of the reason why the Tau got grimderped the way they did. I also think that the client races were, in a great irony, looked at by sensitivity readers and deemed 'problematic.' Why? The client races might be second base to the Tau but they are clearly recognized by the Ethereals as furthering the Greater Good. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses that the Tau not only respect but find a way to fit into their burgeoning civilization, often united only by shared misery at the hands of the Imperium- even humans join the Tau Empire. Still dystopian but it's clearly better than the alternative. This runs counter to DEI as not only are the Tau meritocratic, but the concept of separate species who have their own goals is a serious badnono according to the current fanatics in lower Blackrock management even with completely different biological setups. And again: a tiny nation with different values resisting a massive bloc more or less ran by obscenely rich aristocrats using a broken ideology to prop themselves up and actually succeeding might scare these people. Probably more than the Black Templars even. I don't even like the Tau and I'm standing up for them. Way to go Blackrock.
>>97346434You're making bullshit up.Ever since the individual Great Companies were described by GW in the 5th ed codex, the Sea Wolves were described as "dark of skin and temperament"And this was before Magnus' latest invasion that decimated Fenris' civilian population that they just had to get a whole new shipment of colonists. Fenris was a spaceship making factory settled by... Eh... Let's call them 'Zero-G Ball Columbians.' As Columbian industries were increasingly contracted out to third galactic Grot worlds, Fenris became a mega slum as all the... Hmm... Let's call them 'Golden Men,' left for better planets leaving Fenris, or as it was known at the time: Obama, in the hands of its now unemployed workforce. When the Eldar Empire fell, Planet Obama fell into further irrelevance as what was left of Aeldari investments dried up so the planet became poor as fuck. Things got so bad even the Grot H1B holders weren't setting up scam call centers and the Stryxis 24/7 owners were tired of getting robbed so they took off. Then the Age of Strife happened and most of the population starved due to EBT and food stamps no longer being available resulting in a societal decline.

>>97346818You can detect its jump signature for a few weeks after it leaves, but it doesn't tell you where it went, and isn't so unique that you'd be able to pick it out again if there's a lot of traffic. If they went to the middle of nowhere and your pursuing ships also got there in time, they could pick up the signature again so you at least know you're on the trail, but it's going to be a crapshoot every time. It's not perfect even if you do find a signature since it only tells you roughly how large the jumpship is. Great if you're after something uniquely small or large, not helpful for everything in the middle.
