>>97184407That and as many anons have pointed out, the SI is a formless grey blob of every hunter org ever who for some unexplained reason put aside their rivalries and worked together for the single-minded goal of exterminating all of vampirekind. Some anons have alleged that they cribbed off from Hunter: the Vigil and honestly I just don't see it. Hunter compacts and conspiracies are mind-bogglingly varied in background, ethods and methodology (there's literal dozens at the time of this writing by the way), so the decision to smush them all together in one monolithic faceless mass is baffling to me.
>>97183127I'd say it is still terrible in theory because it's still sticking all of the unique and interesting hunters into one bland, homogenizing conglomerate. >>97183568In Requiem at least, it's really easy to remove touchstones, so I don't get what the fuss is about. It's just a +2 to resisting breaking points until your humanity dips below 6. You don't even need them to be an NPC, it could be an object of significant importance to your character. You can easily excise that from the game with zero issue. I swear I think people get V5's touchstones confused with Requiem's. >>97183944Shit, you just hit the nail on the head as to why the SI sucks. It's Quantum Werewolves again. Only instead of "just stay out of the sticks" it's "hey just don't use technology in this game set in the 21st century". Which is just so much lamer fundamentally. and quantum werewolves still sucked conceptually too. >>97184407God, that IAO shit was retarded. The Hunters are too dumb to notice their boss is now a vampire, but without her, they're smart enough to kill everyone in Seattle? ChatGPT wrote that game, you can't convince me otherwise. >>97184447Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>97184465>Truth. Some Vigil compacts are so different in approach and philosophy that they can end up in direct conflict with each other.Case in point, let's talk vampires since that's what sparked the discussion.>Taskforce: Valkyrie wants to do the usual glownigger thing of keeping the status quo and the normies blind and deaf>Cheiron wants to harvest vampires to print money selling combat performance enhancers to NATO>Malleus Malleficarium wants them immolated with extreme prejudice except the few that get smuggled to the Vatican so their leader can continue living>The Lucifuge wants to police them and curb their worst excesses as well as stamp out the ones that consort with Strix or denizens of Hell>The Cainite Heresy wants to enact TVD right here and now, fuck the consequencesThat's just a handful of hunter groups, and only one isn't from core.
>>97184407Oh so it's even lamer than I thought. Still gonna check it out, if nothing else I can use bits from it for color in Vigil and/or Mage.
What are some of the cooler Paths/Roads that are still Conscious/Self Control? Is it worth trading your virtues for a different Path/Road?
was the satanic panic real? did people actually think their kids were summoning demons over elfgames?

Why was XP for gold largely abandoned as a way to reward players?
>>97167056His players don't just exist in his head though.
>>97178186I’ve been running AD&D myself and my experience could not be more different. If you’re strict about the money sinks your players are broke ass bums all the time. I’ll be showering them with money but levelling up and identifying items is so ridiculously expensive. I wanted to play this game to see if people here are just talking out of their ass about it and they are but at this point I think every table is so different that no facts can be agreed upon so discussion is almost impossible.
>>97161391Because the people who replaced it were a bunch of preachy Mormons who wanted you to instead be rewarded for following the rails and acting Wholesome and Christian in line. Not even bullshitting, Dragonlance is basically a Mormon fapfiction and the stated goal of the Hickman manifesto was 'Get those retards to ingest our too-shit-to-publish-on-its-own-terms fantasy lit'It's not that games didn't have overarching stories before Hickman, it's that post-Hickman the game became about the story, as proven by the number of people cranking the hog in this very thread over "hurr durr, your characters are boring and we need a big story to keep things interesting"No.Your metaplot is boring and the characters are the ones the game should be about, they should be inherently interesting people and if they're not then ask your players why their characters aren't interested in adventuring off their own bat, you frustrated failed novelist.
>>97161553>went out of popularity about 40 years agoYes, OP knows this. It's why he asked, WHY?
>>97184311Maybe because the answer is obvious (players want actual stories and not just dungeon grinds) and the OP was just an argument starter?

Post franchises you think should be or should have gotten tabletop RPGs or war games.Considering how wild the 90's was, I'm legitimately surprised this of all things didn't get one, frankly.
>>97174958Myth Adventures had a boardgame by Mayfair along with Xanth but never had a tabletop RPG, despite the books using Phil Foglio for cover art and Phil doing a comic based on the novels in the early 80s.Dimension-hopping comedy fantasy seems very much like something late 80s RPG companies would try to make work.
Macross Wargame. There's apparently an RPG but I have no idea what's in it or if it's good or not. I was thinking more along the lines of Battletech but with unnerfed LAMs.

Whi built the dungeon?
It's a fantasy setting so you can rest assured the world has gone through its share of apocalypses, Ragnaröks, and raptures.People built strongholds to survive them, often not surviving despite the effort. This also explains why they are full of treasures and traps. Attempts to hold the darkness at bay.Outside of that people still build tombs, prisons, etc.

>>97183114Heh
>>97182523Dungeons are in fact part of the life cycle of the humble mimic. A dungeon can be separated into discrete sections, which are called Tiles due to an antiquated form of dungeon mapping. Each of these Tiles is in fact an elder mimic in the final stage of its lifecycle. Mimics prefer dwelling in caves or other areas protected from direct sunlight. A dungeon often begins with a simple cave and a chest(mimic) hidden in a nook, luring in treasure seekers. Once the mimic has absorbed enough nutrients it will embed itself within the earth or stone, similar to weaving a cocoon, the mimic will metamorphosize itself, and the surrounding stone, into a larger edifice, to provide a more tantalizing presentation for its bait. How mimics gain their aesthetic sense is unknown at this time. The mimic will then bud, producing more mimics. Which in turn mature becoming a new edifice, and in doing so form a symbiotic bond with the pre-existing Tiles. Becoming a vast interconnected single organism. Which is how dungeons are born.
>>97184679At first these dungeons will attract wandering creatures through some form of pheromone, like a pitcher plant. Providing protection to its core aspect, and passive sustenance from the detritus and remains from these creatures. However once a dungeon has advanced enough, its ability to mimic other lifeforms matures and the dungeon is able to produce false creatures under its direct influence. Most notable is the "Dungeon Boss". Kept within the deepest part of the dungeon, it is the final guardian for the aforementioned core aspect. This dungeon core, is the central repository for the dungeon's awareness and magic. Should the Boss be defeated the dungeon, as a defensive posture, will regurgitate a large quantity of valuable materials to distract the potential threat. Dungeons can feed on the ambient energy of magical items, which will often be found in this treasured ambergris alongside precious metals like gold and silver which are believed to be indigestible material. Some dungeons at this point will seemingly collapse, but this is a deception. The Dungeon as a final defensive posture recedes into the Earth and enters into a period of hibernation. Only to re-emerge decades later, when the threat and even knowledge of its existence has long passed.

starting a new campaign saturday. what good stuff should we cover at session 0?
>>97184058>Nigger you're fixating on the identical characters argument like it's some sort of gotchaYou sure you read the correct posts?I'm just pointing out that your way of handling this stuff - people making their characters separately - is less efficient than them making them together. The only possible gain from doing it on your own is when you are making mid-level character in a modern DnD or adjacent game and you absolutely must consult 15 different rulebooks, which takes fuckload of time. Otherwise, making characters together allows you to get the entire group on the same page about the campaign, while also not leaving them with homework to do.
>>97184071Meh, i don't think it's necessarily advantageous, especially if the chargen isn't particularly articulated. I see the point of it when introducing new rulesystem or when playing something with a lot of moving parts so there may be the need for a more directed approach. Most of the problems that in-presence session 0 supposedly solves can be avoided with better specificy in the coordination phase.
>>97184084>You can sit with people and make characters together>Or you can wrangle a whole lot of strings and corrections, while also hoping for the best>Both of those take the same effort, trust me!You do you, I guess. Facing a choice between "guaranteed zero issues" and "brace for whatever happens", I'd rather pick zero issues. One additional advantage of making characters together is that meme, one-off and joke characters get easily squashed. Not even in terms of "GM forbade it", people simply don't dare proposing those. It's just less headache this way
>>97182452>tell us what you are planning for the campaign.Rape.
>>97183924?? That's what a session 0 is. You meet up for the first time and inform the players about the campaign, and they agree on what characters they each plan on bringing and potentially how they fit together as a group (if you've not already specified it).

>>97184653I've really never understood this opinion. You're not paying the same price, for both of them, because a veteran breacher costs twice as much as an inductii and is in a far less accessible slot. The problem isn't that a power weapon isn't worth 10 points on an inductii it's that it isn't worth 10 points period.
