Is Spycraft the only good tabletop game to play a secret agent / glowie?

No, that's Gumshoe. FODG, Night's Black Agents.

Spycraft is disqualified from being the best at anything because it's d20 trash.

Do you include seasonal changes in your campaigns when time goes by?

If so, what do you implement int the world to showcase the changing seasons?

I personally include sea raiders who begin assaults on the kingdom's shores in spring and through summer, who then return to their homeland in fall to winter it out. So essentially a raiding season for my world's vikings, like in real history.

>It presupposes your world has seasons.
....why the fuck wouldn't it? Main reason people forget to do seasons is usually because they get bored of tracking time, don't want to put together an entire calendar, and then their game fizzles before any amount of meaningful time has passed for there to be any reason to mention that the seasons changed and now it's a little cooler or hotter than it was when the game started.
>>
>>97276332
I was in a campaign recently where the seasons played a major role, mostly because we started in Winter and were actively trying to not starve/freeze to death for a good chunk of the campaign.

I love Lorcana, but I can agree that the foils are annoying. In addition to being warped as fuck, they also make the cards way harder to read. I actively avoid putting foils in my decks unless I don't have an alternative. Sometimes they can look pretty, but the esthetics don't outweigh the negatives.

Thanks, deleted the post because I sounded like a whiney bitch and ain't no one wanna hear that so here's the models again, but without me complaining haha
I've 2 Raiders on the way, still got to assemble Lelith, Drazhar, Kruellagh and paint 20 more Kabalites + their heavy weapons. Also have I think 10 Mandrakes still do to. All the ancient 3rd edition models.
I'm trying to hunt down the ancient metal Wyches, or find a good, but cheap, way to strip the metal ones I've got sitting about already painted.
Fun project thus far. Expensive though haha
>>
>>97300109
I've personally bitched a fair bit in /40kg/ this past week. Sometimes we just need to vent before it eats us up inside.

With that said, those look good. Always liked the 3e Dark Eldar after reading the codex as a teen. That is a very solid sounding collection as well. You could try either IPA or - maybe- acetone on the Wyches, best to ask /wip/ and not just quote me. The scheme looks very vivid so far, really liking the blades especially. Hope to see more of the project in the future and hope you feel better soon, Anon.
>>
>>97300142
Thanks, anon. Also hoping it gets better lol I love how they're coming out so far and look forward to getting stuck into my characters as they're always fun to work on.

>You could try either IPA or - maybe- acetone
I'm just iffy about stripping them as they were varnished after being painted and not sure if it'll react to stripping stuff weirdly.
I don't have to worry, though. Wyches were...odd, in 3rd and 4th and I don't need to work on them any time soon since I've so much to do right now for the Deldar. A concern for the future haha
>>
>>97300157
Much appreciated, Anon. They look great and I like the passion you put into your backstory for Syn.

I skipped Wyches myself, never really saw the appeal of them. I'm a simple fellow who wants rifles with his boots on the ground. I am sure that when you get around to them you will have some plan come to fruition. Best of luck and thank you again.

Tell me /tg/ which is your preferred rule system for historical or fantasy 10mm battles and why? Which ones are trash?
For example: Warmaster, Kings of war, Lords & Lands, triumph! fantasy, Fantastic battles, de bellis fantasy, Age of fantasy regiments (opr)

I think the next revival movement in a sinilar vein to the OSR is going to be 3rd edition focussed. I think that granular, complex build focussed market isnt really served by 5e or pathfinder truly, and theres empty space in the market/community.
6 replies omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>97299433
Part of the reason the osr happened is because those old games and modules were out of print and hard to come by, so retro clones were made. 3.5 and Pathfinder are easy as fuck to buy, there doesn't need to be a revival because if you want to play 3.5, it's dead easy to just get copies and play it.
>>
>>97299765
>I think there's a pretty big untapped market for it, especially with a lot of overlap of videogame fans because that whole character building thing is VERY popular in videogames (see path of exile and Diablo)
Those are driven quite sizably by a rapid-reset loot-loop to provide somewhat chaotic support and applications for, which necessitates very quick resolution that would be under immense pressure to support in pen-and-paper.

>>97299977
Despite them having most of the skeleton, there's a large swath of kitchen-sink-gonzo 3.5 they don't work well for from their respective balance-by-normalization approaches REALLY not liking the wild shit-flinging. Though with how much of the "skeleton" has stuck around in 5e without THAT much hard contradiction there's definitely room for working on it with smaller asks of variant and supplemental rules.

>>97300073
>It wouldn't really be OSR
The point is something to 3.5 as OSR is to the TSR period it calls back to, not a direct 3.X-as-OSR. Which is ironically a valid explanation of part of how OSR got started.

>So what is there to revive?
The kitchen-sink-gonzo of dozens of splats producing dozens of ways to do the same thing, which does not actually need dozens of splats if you studiously purge overlaps from the core rulebook to save page-count for novelty.
>>
>>97300073
>So what is there to revive?
Id say the complex character building stuff and a more compelx d20 system
Id personally say a few 3.5 retroclones are in order, along with a scene around releasing splats for options and a handful of d20 adventures would be nice.
>>
>>97300166
You CAN just produce OGL content for 3.X and PF1e to this day, you know. The trouble is entirely network effects of establishing a new standard.
>>
>>97300188
true, i still think that a retroclone would be a great way to get attention back on it, because theres naturally going to be some hesitance to pick up the older rules. they need something new and flashy.

This is a second OSRG, seperate from the main osrg thread, where you CAN talk about 2e, retroclones, and any osr content you want.
This is different than the regular osrg as due to rampant trolling from a handful of bad actors, discussion is impossible.

Is it really good etiquite to have seriously "heavy" and depressing themes in your tabletop campaign as opposed to just lighthearted evening fun or cynically detached/ironic grimderpness?

I rather have the first few sessions with cynicism and sillyness so the players can take it out of their system while I pay attention to what they care about and use that information to build serious things.

Hard serious moments hit harder after some sillyness. Ask anyone who read One Piece.

The ironic thing about Netflix DMC is that it was made by a Western team when it made a sizable portion of the demons into innocent refugees.
The original games were made by Japanese, who are typically more likely to have nuance with their monsters since Christianity isn't super big there; I think even when they ape Christian aesthetics they're probably drawing from their own folklore for how a demon might behave. Yet with one notable exception, demons in that series are consistently portrayed as pure evil, wanting to conquer or destroy humanity.
>>
>>97297099
That's not ironic at all if you look at western media across the past 30 years. Hell, it was literally the first prediction people made when Netflix DMC was first announced.

Japan loves to use Western and Christian imagery because they think it's cool (or sexy like nuns), but other than that they do follow their own idea of Demons (which are just super powerful simple minded creatures)
>>
>>97261289
Mao is probably the most evil of the protagonists and he's still not that bad, he's just an archetypical mad scientist.
Laharl, Zed and Fuji have personality issues but are good at heart.
Valvatorez and Kiriha are not really demonic at all and are genuinely nice people.

Demons who are genuinely evil are usually reviled in the Disgaea setting rather than admired (Zenon/Void Dark) and humans are often the real villains or instigators of wide-scale threats (D1, D3, D4).

TK feel like playing against a Napoleonic military doing the best with what it's got for the underfed weak regular soldiers but having great support and smart commanders. TK tend to use tactics and terrain and combined arms, and they do this pretty dang well if you ask me.
VC plays like AMERICA FUCK YEAH! Here's a hundred fent zombies we threw off the back of a truck, beside our 20 heavy tanks and an attack helicopter. Not really so much of a strategy other than go forward, hit enemy, win. Which they do well! They lose if the enemy doesn't play their game.
